I just watched Space Odyssey.
What the flying fuck, that was a waste of 2 hours. The only good scenes were the ones with dialogue and that must have amounted to a grand total of half an hour. I loved Dr. Strangelove and Lolita AND Full Metal Jacket but...not this.
paths of glory is still my favorite if for no other reason than the song at the end. two thousand one is #2
Kubrick directed that?! I should have paid more attention, that was a great film as well!
Seen Clockwork, Full Metal Jacket, 2001, The Shining, and Dr StrangeLove.
All fantastic movies.
Full Metal Jacket remains my favorite war movie. Clockwork orange is absolutely sickening and twisted in a very psychological way, and is great for that reason. 2001.. it's 2001. You have to watch it. I don't remember much of the shining, but it scared the shit out of me because I was a kid. Strangelove was great satire.
Mein Fuhrer! I CAN WALK!

fuck now I want to watch Clockwork, but my dvd has a nasty scratch on it.
So sad A Clockwork Orange didn't get the later released book's ending. Dumb book publishing companies messing up plots .
The Shining is by far one of the best movies ever made. Same goes for 2001 and Dr. Strangelove.
Eyes Wide Shut is a good movie.
Strangelove is one of my favorite movies :h:
The Shining is a great movie, but after reading the book, its sort of changed my opinion.
Not that I don't love the movie, but the way some of the elements were handled in the movie just rubbed me the wrong way.
The main one being that the character of Jack Torrance in the book is a much more likable and loving father, whereas in the movie, Jack Nicholson comes off as being a maniac almost immediately, and certainly not as caring as a father. Again, not saying the movie is bad, since I watch it all the time, but there are some glaring contrasts between the two.
I saw 2001 in 70mm. That was fucking epic. Fuck shitty 3D that hurts my eyes. Grand vistas and epic space shots that fills your vision in a higher definition than, literally, my eyes can resolve. It's like a window to another world with such clarity it sucks you right in. I demand to know why 70mm films is not the standard now. Digital Cinema can go to hell.
No fighting in the war room!

best line ever.
I know I'm going to get a lot of hate for this, but I couldn't convince myself that I really liked Full Metal Jacket. I even gave it a second chance and the ending somehow left me unsatisfied. I loved the first half with Hartman though.

It's by far his weakest film. It just doesn't feel like him.
I'm somewhat ashamed to say Full Metal Jacket is the only film of his I've properly watched, I really liked it though.
Full metal jacket is actually one of my favorite movies, I have probably seen it a dozen times.
I just watched Full Metal Jacket last night.
It's a great movie.
I don't see why everyone loves 2001, its the most boring movie I've ever seen.
bump
2001 was great and all, but it should stay a book.
They were made at the exact same time, to be seen together.
It didn't "become" a movie any more than it "became" a book.
2001 is one of my favorite movies of all time. I think that you guys who didn't like it probably just didn't get it.

Heist/Crime guy here.
I watched Full Metal Jacket for the first time a few days ago, it might be my favorite war movie next to Apocalypse Now.

Full Metal Jacket is a wonderful movie, and the story behind R. Lee Ermy and Kubrick is awesome.
Full Metal Jacket > All other (anti-)-war movies
I thought A Clockwork Orange was shit compared to the book. The movie felt boring(probably since I saw it right after reading the book).

The movie was pretty good but yeah it doesn't really hold a candle to the book, and I'm not one of those people that always says that.
Barry Lyndon is probably my favorite.
