Listened to Ammonia Avenue a little while ago, a lot better than I thought it would be! Alan Parsons is pretty unique in sound, that's for sure. Also, quick question: right now I got a Kenwood-51F, heres a picture: It obviously wasn't a ground breaker, because it didn't show many results when I googled it. Is it worth upgrading, and is there a brand better than Technics? Vinyl sounds awesome but I'm not sure if my turntable right now does justice to the sounds.
If you want to invest in a decent turntable I'd recommend buying a Technics SL1200 or something built by Thorens. If thats outside of your budget look for a lower end Technics or search around for a good second hand turntable. For casual use you're going to want something that is belt-driven, has an easy way to replace cartridges and a curved tonearm. If you want something with a built-in amp, rule of thumb is 'the heavier the turntable the better'.
really want to get a project table some day...
I love my project carbon, although I miss having a turntable that returns the needle when it gets to the end of the record. A few times I've accidentally passed out while listening to a record and woken up in the morning to the record still spinning.
i got neil perry's selftitled 7" today and its p. rad

wtf where did u get that wtf wtf wtf
Midori and Deathconciousness~~ I've wanted Midori for quite some time now.
Deathconsciousness I saw on ebay for a good price. I had never placed bids so enthusiastically in my life. The other two I bought from a guy who was selling some of his collection on /mu/. Again, very fair prices. Basically, I got VERY lucky.
i still need to get deathconciousness sometime i've owned that midori record for like 2 years now
oh you're buying online then yeah whatever
I pick up some good stuff at the local stores too but I'd just always wanted those 2 records. The Japanese version of Charles Mingus was something the guy had that I just thought would be really cool to own. If I were to have found all that at a store or a garage sale or something, I would have shit myself.
you've "always wanted" a record that has been out for 4-5 years? what is the world coming to
you've "always wanted" a record that has been out for 4-5 years? what is the world coming to
It's an expression. I've only recently been comfortable putting that much money into my music collection. What are you getting at?
Recent gets: Alessandro Cortini - Forse 1 Funkadelic - Maggot Brain The Jesus and Mary Chain - Pyschocandy [t]http://i.imgur.com/U2kgX5A.jpg[/t]
Shelf just fell off the wall and crushed my turntable. Tonearm is bent, platter is cracked, stuff like that. Can't find anything warranty related anywhere. yay
Ouch, what kind of TT did you have?
Ouch, what kind of TT did you have?
Rega RP1. Pretty sure I have all the paperwork in the garage and they're meant to have a 3 year warranty, I've read. But actually redeeming the warranty seems like a royal ball ache. It's going ot have to wait til next week, I've got work until sunday

My mum recently came across this - And she decided to give it to me, since the plastic was already open, so its only worth around 300-400$ None of the albums had even been taken out of the case before, so I feel like a kid in a candy shop! On a semi-unrelated note, does anyone know of a good portable record player? And when I mean portable, I mean: I can charge it and go enjoy an afternoon in the woods/cottage without power? Because all I can find are cheap Crosley record players, that are marked 'portable' but I'm pretty sure can't be used without constant power. Even when I got through all the cheap Crosley's I found two that I like, but I'm not sure if they're chargeable or not. And its not mentioned anywhere that you can't bring it where there is no power, but there is nowhere that says you can. And I'm starting to think that the title of "Portable" just means that its inside a suitcase, and you can move it around easily.
i really wouldnt recommend using portable turntables because they are very likely to fuck up your records if you want to enjoy music in the woods just take your ipod, records arent meant to be played in the woods.
Nah the electric is just to the turn record just use use ur finger m8
aren't there turntables that are wind up?
aren't there turntables that are wind up?
still, you want to keep your turntable perfectly leveled and that seems kind of hard in the woods [editline]3rd August 2013[/editline] also for the love of god dont buy anything built by crosley

Also, Crosleys are awful record players, don't go for them ever. The thing about lots of commercial retailers when it comes to vinyl is that most people in this generation didn't grow up with/don't know anything about records, so they exploit that with cheap record players with horrible build quality and overpriced represses of classic records that are pressed straight from mp3 files, so you might as well just listen to it on an iPod. Rule of thumb: if your record player is made of plastic, it's not worth using.
I only own one vinyl record and it's the US version of The Rolling Stones' first LP.

What's the point in owning records if you don't play them though? [editline]6th August 2013[/editline] I went to buy road tax yesterday but came home with records instead. Quasimoto - Further Instrumentals, Jay Dee - Donuts, Junior Murvin - Police and Theieves LP, RZA's Shaolin Soul Selection
