Got myself this, apparently I'm the only one on Discogs who owns it, got it completely new too

Also, I just found out Kyary Pamyu Pamyu released a picture disc single once so I'll have to get that sometime for reasons
just visited my first local record shop, came back disappointed.
not much but those sealed represses that I can get off amazon for cheaper. Anything they did have was overpriced ($34 for a torn up White Album repress, only because the shit sleeve quality made it look "vintage") Pretty sure any 45 was at least $5, and they also sold an uncomfortable amount of porn for a record store. Just weird to flip through the used pile and glance over to a wall with cum all over people's faces.
I'm almost certain that it was a front to sell drugs anyway. Some girl came in with a rolled up wad of cash looking sketchy, and then the clerk and the girl went in the backroom for a while. Hell I could of nabbed anything and made off with it if I was that kind of person.
Overall it was a neat experience. Not the one I was hoping for but it definitely opened my eyes to how shopping for records really is, especially when you're checking out new stores. Only two more stores in my area hopefully it's uphill from here.

also hey I know those $15 carbon fiber brushes are super awesome but is there anything a bit cheaper to simply get the dust off?
uhhhhhhh are you sure you were even in a record store. what the fuck rofl. ive never heard of a record store selling porn
Has to have been independently owned. The majority of record stores I've been to have other kinds of stuff on sale as well as records, such as VHS tapes, old computer parts, etc.
ive never been to a record store that isnt indepdently owned (unless you count that one time i went to a virgin megastore rofl) and none of them have ever sold porn or "old computer parts" wtf. ive seen a place that sold a variety of media from vhs to dvds to videogames but it did all of those things somewhat comprehensively. i wouldnt call that a record store. still havent seen one that sold porn
all my store sells is records, cd's and some arthouse films on dvd.
maybe the odd music merch like posters or buttons and stuff like that but nearly everything is related to music.
got this a week ago

It wasn't a record store primarily, but it was the closest thing around here. Sold cd's, movies, and some old games too but mostly vinyl. Some of my friends said it was good, so I thought it would be good.
Was not good.
And the only other place that would sell records has been closed down- looked through the glass and from the looks of it they only CD's anyway.
When I was in New York I hit up A1 Records in East Village and oh my god it is the most amazing record shop in the world. Picked up a few house 12"s including one with no labeling at all apart from the words "DAFT PUNK". No idea what it is but I'm excited to find out.

yea thats not a record store
My local record store is the size of a restaurant toilet and has a shop dog that sits on your feet while you browse. They've started putting on shows too now, pretty great.

It's an amazing little shop, I could've spent hours in there.

there's a shop here with a stage but they criminally underuse it. makes me sad
I would do a concert in a record store, that would be awesome.

180 grams of the best post-metal ever.
hey what are some more things that damage records? Not the obvious scratches, smudges, dust, and holding them wrong but things that you wouldn't immediately think about like stacking them horizontally
heat
heat can cause warps in your records, so you want to keep them out of direct sunlight and away from other heat sources
also, bad weights on your turntable/bad antiskate settings can cause your record to wear faster
Wait
Stacking records horizontally is bad for them?
Uh oh

the weight of the records will crush the grooves.
better that than being warped though.

Can I get a straight answer here? Will my awesome AT-LP60 significantly damage my records over time?
yadda yadda I know it was $80 and I "got what I paid for" and the sound is so inferior to any other setup, but will it actually damage records over time? That's all I really care about right now.
I'm saving up for a 120 or something else eventually but I can't tell if these things I'm reading are genuine warnings or more advanced collectors being snobbish over the "cheapter tt"
[editline]20th September 2013[/editline]
a lot of what I'm reading makes it sound like it comes down to tracking force, and the AT-LP60's tracking force is low and probably wont hurt records- but it's nonadjustable and that's what makes people freak out
I don't know how a turntable will damage records just by using it unless it's some seriously shit shit or something is right fucked with the needle.
Yay!

thats what you get for having bad taste
Not cool, warped records suck regardless of what you consider good taste.
yeah they suck and he deserves them because his taste sucks. it matches, see?
vedi you're being a straight up douche right now

The bad thing about the AT-LP 60, is that there is no tracking force adjustment, and it is usually set at a whopping 4 grams, while a typical turntable (The cartridge) tracks at something like 0.75 - 2 grams.
If I would recommend a relatively safe turntable for people, I would go with the Pyle PLTTB1 turntable:

Yeah, it's not an audiophile turntable, but for the same price (Or even lower) than an AT-LP 60 and the features of great turntables, you can't beat the price.

Ouch man.. :(. And I thought my copy of Plastic Beach with a little bump between the grooves was bad.
