Recent and not so recent purchases, i haven't posted anything here in a while.

The Flaming Lips - 7 Skies H3 (RSD clear vinyl)
Swans - To Be Kind (signed by Gira)
Thee Oh Sees - Drop
Planning for Burial - Desideratum (great record!)

Oh my fuck that Earth record looks sublime. I got my Desideratum copy in the other day too, wicked record, glad to see it finally released after all these years.
Moving house over the next few days. Packing and moving ~600 12" records is no fun.

Sunn O)))))))))))) - Oracle, got it brand new from southern lord's website after they put up like 12 copies with damage packaging (its just a little split on the spine) for 10 dollars, worth every penny.
Electric Wurms - Musik, Die Schwer Zu Twerk If you haven't checked this project out yet, do it.
Earth - Primitive and Deadly basically a heavier The Bees Made Honey in the Lion's Skull with some vocals, its awesome.

The Designers Republic, who have designed various album art for Warp, released images of Aphex Twins new album, "Syro" and the design of the limited edition cover. Only 200 copies to be sold via lottery.

Is it a bad idea to ask for help in purchasing a record player for the first time in this thread?

pioneer for cheaper ones
project for expensive
audio technica for a mid-range.
Direct Drive is VERY reliable, but some say Belt Drive is best and I personally prefer belt drive.
General rule of thumb: No adjustable counterweight, it's trash, if there's no adjustable counterweight it'll put far too much downforce on your records
http://4chanmusic.wikia.com/wiki/Informational_Images
Speaking of, I really need to calibrate my counterweight. It definitely moved around while I was moving.
Friend of mine just ordered The Disintegration Loops boxset with 5 CDs and 9 LPs
lol
i'd rather get that on cassette tbh, seems more fitting to play it on a format which actually dies.
My fucking turntable isn't working, absolutely gutted. It's less than a year old too. I'm not sure what the deal is, it worked before I moved but now it's not outputting through my preamp. Any suggestions?
saw a venom vinyl today for 40 bucks.. :/
The new Prawn album on vinyl is just beautiful.

I have finally found my home!
Are we all hipsters...?
Nope, I listen to records because I really like the experience.
I like the bigger artwork, I like that I actually have to take care of it and it's very relaxing to watch the vinyl spin, if that makes me a hipster I'm ok with that

I prefer CDs to be honest, but I like Vinyl as well.
Problems I have with vinyl:
I hate having to be careful with it, it makes me paranoid that one scratch will completely ruin the sound quality.
I also don't like having to flip the record over when it's done with a side (my record player is way over across my basement + I'm lazy).
Usually with CDs, I don't have to worry about any of that, plus I can play my CDs in the car and easily put them on my computer (digitalizing a record can take me an hour...).
Vinyl can be expensive and it does not have as broad of a selection as CDs do.
Vinyl has it's definite perks, though.
A new record can arguably sound better than most formats of music.
The artwork is more detailed and nicer to look at.
Watching the record spin is fun, yeah.
It's a cool (and vintage) thing to collect.
Listening to certain records of vinyl can change your perception of an album and increase your appreciation for it.
Anyways, besides all of my opinionated garbage, I picked up Double Nickels on the Dime by Minutemen and also a couple of old Bruce Springsteen albums that just sound phenomenal.
