Seriously. This sort of thing is why we get made fun of for being stuck-up and pretentious. It's a chill hobby, let's make it chill. Why complain about semantics when it just cuts into your listening time?
I don't know anything that I want to do with my life beyond having a huge collection of grunge and emo records
Punk vinyl is so cheap I love it. I picked up 3 new 12"s and 2 7"s for $12 and $4 each, respectively. They almost always come packed with cool zines/fliers/sampler CDs, too.
It was just an admittedly shItty joke. Sorry. :v:
Also if we"re still posting what we got for Christmas, I got Kid A, Daydream Nation, and You're Dead which has some pretty cool gatefold art. Shitty picture below.

I know, but those guys on the Reddit take it super seriously. I think when I said the same thing over there, I got -20 on the post.
Does any of you digitize your vinyl? Care to go into detail about the process? Any recommended software/hardware?
I'm looking to digitize some recent purchases and I have an old turntable that's pretty much done its bit by now and I'm going to purchase a new one. Is the Rega RP1 a good option? What should I be using between the turntable and my computer? I have an Asus Essence STX soundcard if that makes any difference.

Yep I digitalize mine. I bought a decent turntable that has a USB plug that connects to my computer. It came with Sony Soundforge 9, which is an okay program, but it never really does what it says it can do. It's only good for recording the sides, I have to manually go in and split apart the tracks.
I cannot offer you any advice on those products because I'm not all too knowledgeable when it comes to hardware or software. My recommendation is don't spend too much money on a process that is actually more simple than you'd think.

Pinback - This is a Pinback CD, 15th anniversary record store day re-press, only 2000 copies
Modest Mouse - The Fruit That Ate Itself
Titus Andronicus - The Monitor
Pinback - Summer In Abaddon
Death grips - The Money Store

The Pinback album came with a cool lyrics sheet

The record itself is a very cool translucent off-white color.

Titus is split onto two 33 RPM records, with very cool art on the inside and outside, as well as lyrics

if you want to digitize vinyl dont use a cheap USB turntable
instead try to run a line from your amp into your computer (pls use good sound card)

Very much this. My stereo receiver actually has recording-out channels, so if I ever need to digitize anything I can do it while I'm listening. Or I can convert it to tape or CD, if I feel so inclined.
So my dad gave me his record player because he saw I loved listening to his vinyl collection.
Is this thing all that good? I see a few on ebay for outrageous prices and no bids.

I've only got a few records of my own to play on it but it sounds really good.

Ignore that terrible condition record.

The sandwich players aren't great. They're not awful, and they're probably better than a Crosley or something, but they aren't great.
I'd say if you like the way it sounds, and you want to listen to records, keep it. You can always upgrade later.

The Sony PS-F5 is surprisingly a pretty decent table for what it is. Incredible for when it was made. I don't think your version has the quartz lock though, so you might get some speed issues. That thing is battery powered right?
Picked up this album last weekend. Check it out if you're into shit like Beefheart

Yeah, listen to that guy. He knows more about this thing than I do.
Damn, I left my Miles Davis record playing while I was cooking and it ended up spinning with the needle at the end label for about an hour.
Hope the needle is still usable...
This thing arrived at my house today
