Are the bonus tracks on welcome oblivion any good?
I'm listening to it now, I'll tell ya' once I get there.
Dunno why I've never posted in here since my collection of vinyls has been growing ever larger since I finally got a player for them a couple years ago. Here is a picture of it from when I got it along with the very few vinyls I had back then. [t]https://dl.dropbox.com/u/6601025/Pictures/Photo%20Dec%2025%2C%2011%2040%2052.jpg[/t] Even though it's pretty bulky I really like the look of it. Only downside is that since it's not a super high-end player all of the parts that look like they should be metal are plastic which makes it feel kinda cheap when you actually touch it. It has a radio and a CD player in it too so it comes in handy for other uses. As for my vinyls, I'll take a picture of them later or maybe just list them if I can't find the space.
in general those 'combo-players' are pretty poor. if you can afford it you'd be better off buying an actual turntable with a seperate amp, especially if you are getting serious about collecting records. more high end players will decrease the amount of wear on your record, thus improving the durability of them. they also sound significantly better.
Yeah, I'm planning on getting a nice player as soon as I can afford it but right now that's not really something I'll be able to do for a while. That said what would be a good one to keep my eyes on that's not massively expensive. I'm not too knowledgeable on the technical details of players since my affinity for vinyls really only came out of my love for older music.

yeah that looks like a crosley i got one mistakenly and wow it is the biggest mistake i hae ever made
that thing prob chews the shit out of your vinyls just sayin
It's not like I play the shit out of all of my vinyls all of the time. But that's why I asked earlier if anyone could recommend a good one.
It's not like I play the shit out of all of my vinyls all of the time. But that's why I asked earlier if anyone could recommend a good one.
Gemini XL-400 is the best starting place. Try and get a used one.
I was just looking at Gemini xl400 specs cause i thought it was a 1200 clone, but apparently only in looks. turns out they're belt drive. Thought they might be direct, more torque than mine.
So if I had 3 days to buy a vinyl player from somewhere what would I go considering a Pro-ject one like the essential, seem like a good buy?
The Pro-ject tables are meant to be really good. Doesn't look like it has any dampers/suspension though, so you'd want it on a nice sturdy surface
fff me i need to get a proj-ect debut. [editline]18th March 2013[/editline] they look and sound heavenly
Yeah, I want to get one - but debuts are too much money. I might get a Genie Mk3 though. If I do, what else do I need if I'm starting from scratch?
you need an amplifier that takes phono
Okay, cool - Any recommendations for a cheap one or should I scout around
also you need someone to align it properly, or you could learn how to do it all by yourself. :/

Also, I'll need speakers - I have a cd player, however, the speakers have only way of connecting - via straight cables that you fasten into the speakers. no RCA input or whatever you need. There is an 1/8" aux port out the front though. Guess there's no solution to this but buying new speakers?

Australia's not great with used anything/buying anything. I guess I could try - but its pretty difficult. We don't really have a craigslist either - we gumtree but it's shit. If the receiver has an aux input it should work though with a phono preamp, right? I do have a pair of really nice expensive headphones though - I could probably plug them into the preamp?
If the receiver has an aux input it should work though with a phono preamp, right?
i don't know, if the aux input goes to the amplifier and not after it then yes
I do have a pair of really nice expensive headphones though - I could probably plug them into the preamp?
nope, all that preamp does is change the signal from high impedance to low impedance, you still need an amplifier
gghughugh so complicated Might have to get a less good new/second hand turntable, and use the money I save on buying all this extra stuff thanks for the halp
ew what's a gumtree

Post War Glamour Girls?
My record I ordered back in January finally came. [t]http://i.imgur.com/052jOAJ.jpg[/t] [t]http://i.imgur.com/e2Z6DJ4.jpg[/t] [t]http://i.imgur.com/QrWB4tA.jpg[/t] It's Sea of the Dying Dhow by *shels.
I'm interested in a getting a record player, how much does a decent one cost? I don't care about looks or condition, just something that works and at the best price. Any particular models?
Post War Glamour Girls?
yes, first single for their new album I was the first to comment on their fb post that I ordered it and they called me a gem :>

I picked up Steven Wilson's new album, and it sounds amazing on this thing. The record on the turntable is Carissa's Wierd's "Ugly But Honest".
