I thought it was nostalgia, but I was wrong.
Over the years, I've seen the game-makers sense have changed.
Looking back to the RPGs and JRPGs that I've played in the 90s and early 2000, I can say that the game designers taste in music, scenes, dialogues, and perception/taste of 'sentimental moments' is, well, better.
I thought I was imagining it with rose-tinted glass, but I had to admit it, they had a certain special 'flair', when every element was put together into spectacle worlds.
It's a grim premonition. I'm afraid I would never see those woundrous worlds again, with how the game-designer tastes are evolving.
I often feel like modern gaming has left me behind a bit.
Not that games today are bad, but there's something about older ones that "clicks" more for me, for lack of a better word. There's some nostalgia there, surely, but someday I really need to analyze and get to the bottom of what I like less about the industry today.
Other than the music, which is easy to point out. Older games largely had more memorable music, in my opinion, especially RPGs. I think they put more effort into their soundtracks to compensate for the lack of visuals.
I see your FF avatar and it's nice.

I know you're not being entirely serious but before people want to jump down my throat I would like to point out I said the music was largely more memorable; there are still plenty of games today with rockin' soundtracks.
undertale ost

As far as RPGs go The Elder Scrolls still does a great job with its atmospheric music.
