Gotta add Romantically Apocalyptic and Gone with the Blastwave to the OP. Especially the first one, it's amazing both in visuals and storyline.
Is it still going?
I remember everyone here being super into it a couple years ago but kind of unanimously disowning it for some reason i cant recall.
I think Go Get A Roomie is probably my favorite webcomic ever.
Really think it's worth a shot.
Made me think really hard about lots of stuff.
It's good but it's a comic a lot about sex and feels, so it's not for everyone. It's pretty well written and drawn though.
What no Order of the Stick?
The Order of the Stick (OOTS) is a comedic webcomic that satirizes tabletop role-playing games and medieval fantasy.
Taking place in a magical world that loosely operates by the rules of the 3.5 edition of the role-playing game Dungeons and Dragons (D&D), the comic follows the sometimes farcical exploits of six adventurers as they strive to save the world from an evil lich sorcerer. Much of the comic's humor stems from the characters' awareness of the game rules that affect their lives or from having anachronistic knowledge of modern culture.
Started flipping through some of these. The Last Halloween is really fucking cool god damn. I love the art style and designs of everything but that's probably because i'm a huge horror movie junkie, and the creator of this is obviously one as well. Pretty easy to guess where the story is going next and it looks like it hasn't updated regularly since June lol but o well still NEAT. Hopefully it starts back with regular updates soon.

Last update was actually mid october but I'm not sure why she's on hiatus.
Last update was actually mid october but I'm not sure why she's on hiatus.
Ya but like i said it doesn't update ~regularly~ anymore. The website still even says "updates every Thursday" even tho that's not been the case since June. And yeah all I could find were recent tweets about still working on Kickstarter rewards and an apology for the lack of updates, but that's it. She needs a blog or something for updates.
So, I'm guessing that if we're gonna talk about any kind of story elements we're gonna need to [sp]use a truckload of spoiler tags everywhere just to be safe?[/sp]
I'm going to have to plug Lackadaisy. Legitimately the best art I've ever seen in a webcomic, and amazing characters. It's about cat people trying to run a speakeasy in St. Louis.

too bad it updates like once a year

More like Gone from Updating, amiright?
[sp]But seriously, aside from YEARS-LONG Hiatuses between strips, I still love the art style.[/sp]
Oh, and it actually updated in October. And has a spin off to boot!
The problem with trying to keep up with the expected deadlines is that there really isn't a huge collateral to when you stop. Sure, the audience would stop coming and it'll be an uphill battle trying to win them back, but you could focus on other things.
There's also a motivational aspect to it. You obviously can't do this forever, but if you don't have a good set plan on where to end the story, then the comic will just end up collecting virtual dust.
People like Penny Arcade who have their own company must always provide a new strip every week. Others have great work ethic and may get rewarded with a ton of cash from fans through merch and Patreon, but for others, that isn't the case when Patreon isn't too great of a motivator to continue working.
In comparison to the average joe who lives in a apartment and sometimes rely on Patreon while also trying to find a much steadier job, making webcomics require a shitton of commitment.
This is so true. I update my comic with with two or three months break between each update. Each update is about 6-10 pages which contains entire scenes, I find this method more suiting for story oriented series. Posting page by page ruins the pacing and it's not well suited for Tapstic, the site I use for my comic. If I had my own website things may be different.
Working on a story oriented series compared with a gag comic is difficult. Gags are much more suited for "one strip per week". as long as you have jokes up your sleeve there is always something to produce. Story lines require planning, pacing and often much better or defined artstyle. I try to be the best artist I can while still producing pages at a reasonable time, and in the end it all has to be entertaining to the readers.
Webcomic readers don't have the same reasons to read webcomics in similar way as films or books. When you buy a book or a move you have to see it as you spent money on it. Webcomics is usually something you just stumble upon, and if it doesn't interest you there and then, It can easily be dismissed with a mouseclick.

May as well see if there's any followers of the webcomics I follow - Looking For Group, a fantasy story heavily influenced by a lot of fantasy novels and games and Star Power, where the writer of Dominic Deegan went after that comic ended, a scifi comic modeled like an actual published comic book.

Keeping up with Looking For Groups for so many years is one of the biggest mistakes I've ever made.
The only excuse I have is that it was one of the first webcomics I've started reading so I didn't know any better.
The constant tone shifts in that thing are really, really jarring, annoying and overall just awful.
Last thing I remember about Looking for group was something about an elf kid and some drama surroung the creator and /co/. But that was years ago and I dont even remember what the drama was about :v:
Looking for Group introduced me to two concepts in regards to webcomics: The idea of ongoing storyline within a webcomic and disappointment in regards to the ongoing storyline in the webcomic.
I just wanted the asshole lick sorcerer guy be an asshole and the main character, instead we've got generic fantasy story.
The NPC stories are a tad better these days. Really I just keep reading LFG because, well, I always have so why stop now :v:
Oooh goody, ill have to look through all these new suggestions sometime.
My favorite webcomic so far has gotta be stand still stay silent. That shit is just on another level. The artists warmup comic, a redtails dream, is pretty damn fantastic too.

There was a time when I actually enjoyed Chief Brian strips of CAD. Those were dark times.

We were all young ignorant fools back then.
In the current Girl Genius story arc there's a costumed party and the authors are using the opportunity to cram in as many references as possible.

Never thought I'd see Robbie Rotten, Sans and Sephiroth in the same room. :v:
[editline]23rd December 2016[/editline]
Side note, at this point I've mostly lost track of the plot in the comic but I still read it because the page-to-page action and art are still great.
I just wish there was a synopsis of the entire story somewhere because some characters come up and I'm like "who is this guy again and why should I care?"
I can't be arsed to re-read the thing from the beginning, though it's not as if it isn't good enough to warrant one. It's just that there's just SUCH a big archive that I fear I'll just lose track of the plot once more.
Well, after the escalation to [sp]universal immortality[/sp] for everyone in Schlock Mercenary, I'm looking forward to seeing where Tayler takes things. Maybe that extra-galactic war PD's been fighting in the background will come back to the forefront.
Back when we still had a creative section like, years ago, there was this artist on the creative threads that was drawing up this comic about zombies, and all I remember is a scene they'd done in a supermarket with the main character getting beat up, and that's as much as I can recall.
I remember liking their style and they posted a lot, like all the time, and they seemed pretty popular, but I can't remember their username or the name of their comic. Does anyone know what I'm on about?
You mean this?

FYI, KSBD is off hiatus (I think) and Ava's Demon is set to update "soon", though at this point I'm a little weary of that promise.

KSBD has been back to updating for a while now.
Also, I don't get the hype over Ava's Demon. Great style, mediocre storytelling.

Yeah, art might look kinda shoddy, but stories are great.
Has anyone read øyvind thorsby's stuff? Pretty fun if you can get past the art.
