Blacks, whites, and greys will pretty much go with anything.
Just don't do black and brown.
Alright. What is your guys' opinions on lighter colored jeans? I know you aren't supposed to match dark shirts with dark pants, but I've also heard that light jeans are tacky looking.
light jeans are almost always tacky looking
Alright, well what color jeans are you supposed to wear with dark shirts?
light jeans are almost always tacky looking
That's exactly why I don't own a single pair of light colored jeans.
Alright, well what color jeans are you supposed to wear with dark shirts?
Any jeans that aren't light-colored
Any jeans that aren't light-colored
Mmm. I though the rule was that you had to match dark with light and light with dark.
Unless there are exceptions that I don't know about.

Gray?

dunno about this rule, I wear dark colored stuff with darker color jeans pretty often. Maybe not like black jeans, but yea.
okay ill undo the top button

don't undo the top button.
What I was wearing yesterday. Apologies for such a shit photo but all I've got is my dreadful camera phone and a pitiful excuse for a 'full-length' mirror. Also cardigan looks a bit odd there...

Pretty much this. Never heard of this light/dark 'rule' and wearing dark with dark is fine so long as you don't wear all the same colour (jumpsuit effect).
Can anyone advise me on fluctuating jeans sizes
I found some old black jeans I got a few years ago and they're uncomfortably tight at the waist, which is 32" apparently. But then a couple of other pairs I have are 32" and I need a belt to go with them. I also have a couple that are size 30. No actual measurements, just size 30.
I've heard that cheaper retailers' jeans will always be a couple of inches smaller than they claim to be, and I'd steer clear of them anyway but I'm worried that the measurements might vary between good brands as well (this is an issue in case I find some really nice jeans online but can't rely on the stated size)
Thoughts?

If 32" is your waist measurement then stick with that. If you find some nice jeans online then just order size 32" waist and if they don't fit then send them back, no brainer. Distance Selling Regulations generally say that if the clothes you've ordered don't fit then the company is obliged to take them back and refund you. You might end up down a couple of quid for postage but it's worth it for a good pair of well-fitting jeans.

Not every brand, or even model is true to size. Other factors might come into play like if you washed them, put them in a dryer (don't do this).
Check reviews online if possible, I would absolutely hate to order pants online unless it was something like sweatpants.
all that stuff in the op and not one suggestion on hairstyles besides having it short
Have a cry about it.
Hair is tricky because unlike clothes, it translates onto other people really badly. We're not hairdressers and we don't discuss the best ways to do our hair because that's stupid and not of any help to anyone. The best we can do is point out if it looks stupid so you can trial and error your way to something better.
Post a picture of yourself, it's literally the only way we can give actual advice.

To be honest you should always try on the jeans youre buying, just like shirts they fit differently depending on who made them.
Also to anyone who happens to be stuck with a pair of jeans just a tad bit too big, you can shrink them by washing them on high heat then drying them on high heat. Once you feel that they are dry, high heat dry them again.

Well I only ask to avoid sending them back or any related unpleasentness really.
all that stuff in the op and not one suggestion on hairstyles besides having it short
I will tell you why that is, as I wrote the OP.
Short is a general term, if you are confused, post a photo and ask for opinions. If you do not, we cannot see what might or might not work on you with your face/head shape. If I, say, put a certain style in the OP, that style probably wouldn't work for everyone, as everyone has a different shaped face / head. Hairstyles are much more particular to the person than clothing is, and, simply put, I don't want to put bad advice in the OP.

get skinnier jeans
Agreed on slimmer fitting jeans, top looks fitted, but bottom looks bulky.
