This guy's movies and Akira have given me hope and a new look at animé's potential. I mean, I hate a lot about animé in general, but it's things like this that make me able to say I like at least some animé.

This guy is the reason why I love animation.
the only one of his movies i ever saw was spirited away its pretty good.
No love for Princess Mononoke?
Princess Mononoke is my favorite animated film, Miyazaki is simply a master at conveying emotion in animated films.
You should chalk up a few of Mamoru Oshii's films on your list. Patlabor and Patlabor 2 are some of his best.
Oh shit is that the dude who did Ghost in the Shell? I'll definitely go check out those then.
So many of his movies that i have not seen, i'll have to do it. NOW!
I've been meaning on watching some of his films due to all the praise I've been hearing. Is Ponyo one worth watching? Seems to be the only one on Netflix at the moment.

Princess Mononoke and Naussica are my favorites. Just fucking awesome.
where the fuck is grave of the fireflies sure miyazaki didnt direct it, but it was released in a double billing with my neighbor totoro and was animated by ghibli it is damn sad [editline]26th January 2011[/editline] prob my favorite animated movie
I've only seen Howl's Moving Castle and I really liked it but then it confused me when she went back in time.
I remember watching Princess Mononoke high as fuck and it was an amazing experience.
Fixed thread title. You shouldn't misspell the name of such an awesome director :colbert:
Spirited Away kicked ass. Better than 99.9% of the mainstream Japanese Anime anyways.
Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind is my favourite.
Castle in the Sky and Princess Mononoke were my favorites. We also watched Howl's Moving Castle in art class once.
Mononoke, Howl, Spirited away, Totoro, the movies that defined my adolescence.
Princess Mononoke is one of my favorite movies. Spirited Away is a bit too boring at times for me but it's still great too overall as is Howl's Moving Castle. Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind is one I've been interested in seeing for a while, it sounds pretty good.

Definitely a lot more preachy.
Porco Rosso pretty much defines my childhood. I mean, how can it not be awesome?
I am just amazed that I've seen about four of his films and never knew they were all by the same guy, each of them being fucking amazing.
It's spelled Hayao Miyazaki :colbert: I loved Princess Mononoke and Spirited Away, he directs/produces very artistic and creative movies
With strong pro-environment messages (*Cough Princess Mononoke/Nausicaa Cough*), which as a zoology student pleases me.
With strong pro-environment messages (*Cough Princess Mononoke/Nausicaa Cough*), which as a zoology student pleases me.
And Spirited Away. Almost every single one of his movies conveys that similar message.
These movies are masterpieces.
With strong pro-environment messages (*Cough Princess Mononoke/Nausicaa Cough*), which as a zoology student pleases me.
He's also ia well-known feminist: all the female protagonist on his movies will be strong-willed and independent, and will rarely rely on men to do things. He despises everything related with anime fanservice and moe pretty much for this reason. Offtopic: You study zoology? Cool, I study paleo/zoology/biology in my spare time :buddy:
My Neighbor Totoro is an overrated piece of shit in my opinion. Nothing really happens in this movie, you only see Totoro a small part in this movie, and the main conflict [sp]of the girl running away[/sp] is solved in like 10 minutes. However all of the other movies are incredible. [img_thumb]http://www.newearthonline.co.uk/images/custom/nausicaa-cover.jpg[/img_thumb] This should be more highly regarded.
My Neighbor Totoro was released strictly due to the fact that Grave Of the Fireflies was so depressing. They were released at the same time. Myazaki also directed six episodes of the Sherlock Hound cartoon form the 80's. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sherlock_Hound
