Wait for people to kill each other over oil causing masive amounts of dead bodies.
After that all I have to do is wait a while and use the now turned to oil bodies to start my car.
dumb thread.
I will watch tv. No need to travel, and my power comes from a hydroelectric dam.
There are already alternate power sources like hydrogen,
real problem is the chance
There are already alternate power sources like hydrogen,

But where does the hydrogen come from?
You don't just get it floating about. Most of it is either in water or fossil fuels.
The best way to get hold of it, at the moment, is using steam and natural gas.
You could use electrolysis, but that takes a large amount of energy for any usable quantities of gas.
Hydrogen at the moment is just an energy storage medium, not a source
Esecial oil
Meh, I've got some tinderboxes. I'll just light a torch here and there. All that damned lantern does is give me away, anyhow
I think the important question is what will we do when coal runs out?
Oil will never run out. The real problem is that production will reach it's peak, demand for oil will exceed the supply, and prices will skyrocket.
thus creating a drive for cheaper alternatives meaning that other fields should move forward in leaps and bounds due to the sudden monetary interest in them. Well, we hope.
I think the important question is what will we do when coal runs out?
Everyone here seems to think that oil is only an energy source. Not a base to many products that we use today. Coal, when we run out of that.. we can survive. How? Coal is only used as a fuel. We can't survive without oil. You're all going to say "lol nuclear power" or "ill just drive a EV" or "HYRDROGEN IS BETTURRR".
Sure, we can switch oil from being a fuel source for power stations and vehicles. BUt what are we going to use for say:
Bearings on the generators. Since we won't have a sufficient alternative for lubricating the bearings.
Your vehicles engine contains moving parts (HOLY SHIT!!!!!!). Therefor, Oil makes a superior lubericant for the moving parts in there, spinning around at 3000RPM.
Could water replace this? No.
Could nuclear products act as a lubricant? No. Unless you're a fucking moron like all these people above this post.
Could we use solar powuuuur to doo this. :downs:
I will continue to not care.
Just use a different source of fuel it's not like you can't use stuff like kerosene or an LPG conversion kit or biofuel that should run in most diesel cars.

and below
and below
Yup. I guess some people will always think that oil = gasoline or oil = power station fuel.
Not oil as, what we need for plastic
Not oil as, what we need for grease
Not oil as, what we need for motors
Not even ashpalt, or petroleum jelly..
And to set the fucking record straight. Oil is actually called "Petroleum" not "Oil". Oil is a general phrase..

Just a bandaid
Use vespian gas.
Find more, obviously.
We can use graphite as a lubricant to an extent. And you CAN synthesise hydrocarbons, so we're not ENTIRELY doomed.
Plus Titan, etc.
Obviously there is no worry about that. If it would actually be like it, humanity would just find a good replacement, or a way to reproduce it.
And that list posted earlier is wrong.
I piss oil anyway.
No oil = lack of energy and we are going to be unable to create plastics. Industrial countries will probably plunge right into complete chaos.
thats when carbon nanotubes will come in, they can replicate themselves, and shit can be done to increase replication, and it is 2,000 times stronger than steel, and it can be made to be like armor, or bendy and flexible like plastic, fuck plastic.
Play Garry's mod, what else?
Yeah I think I'd be lying comfortably in a coffin somewhere. Or pulverized in the infinite vacuum of space, who knows.

but electric motors only have one moving part.
Biofuel is out of the question really because we could never really grow enough for the entire world.
Black Milano has it right. oil will never run out because they are just going to find new sources
Kill and Mame.

failed logic
Go back to coal
I have two feet

Its not just the motor....
