Unrelated to whether or not we all liked the movie; has anyone else noticed this pattern marvel have of the villains in their movies being the same thing that the hero is? Both of Iron Man's villains have been guys in Iron Man suits, Abomination was another supersoldier attempt poisoned by gamma radiation, Loki was also a demigod, Red Skull was the other recipient of the supersoldier injection, and now Lizard is another transgenetic being.
Often the greatest foil to a character is that character in a mirror.
He doesn't seem like Tobey Maguire's Peter Parker. That's the problem you have with it.
Not really, it's just that I couldn't quite get a handle on what kind of character he was supposed to be. I knew this was supposed to be a reboot, but I just couldn't convince myself that Andrew Garfield was Peter Parker. Like I said, I do plan on seeing it again, this time with a more fresh perspective.
Often the greatest foil to a character is that character in a mirror.
Or a FUNHOSE mirror, warping the Villain into the exact polar opposite of the Hero. This is why I think the best Hero/Villain relationship in comics is Batman and the Joker. One is stoic and brooding, the other is manic and in the spotlight.
Just saw this. i have some stuff to say: although I sort of disliked some points of the movie, I feel this move got the 'comic style' of spidey spot on. garfield is really good at portraying peter. and i hate how they just forgot about bens killer but oh well
Bens killer seemed to have been left open. Which was interesting. I wonder where they plan to run with that. As for the sequels [sp]If Oscorp is trying to find a way to cure Osborn then I wouldn't expect him until the third one. I imagine the sequel will contain another attempt to cure him. In the Ultimate comics Eddie Brocks parents were killed in a plane crash and they were developing the symbiotic suit to cure cancer (It wasn't an alien). I won't be surprised if they go with the direction that Peters dad developed the symbiote suit to help Osborn but it was deemed unstable or something and locked away in Oscorp tower. In ASM2 Peter will probably find it and start using it. The Symbiote suit is DEFINITELY at Oscorp. The back story for Scorpion in the ASM game says that they used "Black goo" to create him. [/sp] Also judging by the events that unfold in the Spidey game, the sequels will probably include the return of [sp]The Lizard and Connors. In the comics he's always helping Spidey as a sort of Anti-hero so it'd be cool to see that in future sequels. Specially as at the end of the game Connors is cleared of any wrong doing and released[/sp] Also people saying "Gwen will die in the next one!". I doubt it. They'll probaly end this story arc with Green Goblin and Gwen. I just hope Norman is introduced in the next film with Harry and JJJ. Those three didn't come later in Spideys origins anyway so it makes sense they haven't popped up yet.
I didn't get to see the whole movie sadly, since I got food poisoning throughout half of the movie right when Curt Connors was injecting himself with the serum. I did think that Martin Sheen's performance was a bit tad better than the old geezer in Raimi's movies. Let's hope we don't get the flashbacks of him in every sequel like they did in Raimi's movies
Some fans here of their reviews I think? http://redlettermedia.com/half-in-the-bag-the-amazing-spider-man/
You're going back to see the rest, right?
One of these days...
In the original Spider-Man, started fighting crime for the same reason as in the comics: to use his powers responsibly after his previous inaction caused his uncle's death. He also had lots of trouble with his Spider-Man persona starting to intrude on his regular life, which caused him to quite temporarily before finally realizing that he had to continue his superheroics. His his desire to be responsible conflicting with him wanting to live a normal life is probably the most important part of his character, and the movies pulled it off beautifully. In Amazing Spider-Man he does it for... some kind of revenge quest. He never has any kind of revelation about responsibility or anything, and seems to learn absolutely nothing after his uncle dies. Also when he jokes around, particularly in that one scene with the car thief, he does not come off as endearing or funny. Instead he feels like some insufferable punk who just discovered his superpowers (not that I feel sympathy for the car thief). Hell, he doesn't even feel like an outcast. He seems more like just a generic smartass teenager. And since when was Peter Parker ever into skateboarding?
I always felt that the Raimi trilogy's Spider-Man didn't have the wisecracking and witty attitude I loved about Spider-Man. Also, I don't understand how you didn't get the obvious theme of ASM. The movie is a journey for Peter Parker to find his identity and know himself. They feed it right to you with that one scene where the English teacher says there is only one type of plot in storytelling: Who am I? And Peter Parker skateboards in Ultimate Spider-Man.

I masturbated in the cinema to gwen
I masturbated in the cinema to gwen
So thats why the theater floors are always sticky.

Also, looking at that car thief scene again, I actually think it's his voice that was bothering me, not what he was actually doing. :v: And that "who am I" thing felt rather contrived. His search for information about his parents just never interested me at all, and it played out very awkwardly. The pacing was just all over the place in this movie. Oh, and when did Peter Parker skate in Ultimate Spider-Man? I'm looking at the first few issues now, and that never happens.

"love the Yoda t-shirt" Everybody on this site is an idiot. The guys do some nice reviews but I honestly always feel the people watching and the people running the site take it way too seriously. Though one commenter raised some fantastic points that people need to evaluate the movie as it's own movie and stop debating it's existence. Hulk rebooted, F4 is rebooting and Batman is rebooting. All quicker (Am I right?) than Spiderman. Also I'm tired of the "Ohhhh they only rebooted because Rami left and they didn't want to loose the rights" bull. They could've continued Ramis series if they wanted with a new director. Like they did with Burtons Batman. Or Iron Man. Weren't the X-men directed by different people? That's bull. They wanted to reboot it because Marvel finally understands movies and wanted to do some justice to this name. Which is did. Happy skating. Yay. Don't we all love skating? Damn. It worked, it fit Garfields Parker well. Happy days.
I didn't like the skating, but it's not like he'll be skating in any of the sequels, so meh, whatever, what's done is done.

For some reason I remember Peter having a skateboard on his backpack in USM.
Some fans here of their reviews I think? http://redlettermedia.com/half-in-the-bag-the-amazing-spider-man/
Critics do hate this movie, don't they?
Saw it, hated it, don't know why I bother with superhero/action blockbusters anymore.
Saw it, hated it, don't know why I bother with superhero/action blockbusters anymore.
Because you quite clearly don't like them? Because between this post and you calling Iron Man 3 useless, that seems fairly evident. Come to think of it, why did you go to a movie you probably knew you weren't gonna like anyway?
dang, the CGI in this movie looks almost real the more I look at this movie, the more I love it
wow the CGI in this movie is amazing (haha)
[DEL]Use tags.[/DEL] fixed
I hope that, in the sequels, Garfield steps his voice up a bit and makes it sound more fun. It was just a TAD too mumbly. One line that was delivered PERFECTLY was during the carjacker sequence, when he's sitting there and goes [sp]"Yep, there ya go, out the window, go go go!"[/sp] More of that, less "EH, OH, AH'M SWINGIN' 'ERE!" (probably the worst line in the entire movie).

Like [sp]"I'm going to throw you out the window now."[/sp] I have no clue why, but that line killed me.
I gotta admit, after watching Spider-Man 2, it's better than the Amazing Spider-Man. All the personal shit that he went through and shit is what made it so great. I wish ASM2 would be the same as we are already done with the origin story. If I were to rate them it'd go like this 1. Spider-Man 2 2. Amazing Spider-Man 3. Spider-Man 1 4. Spider-Man 3

Like [sp]"I'm going to throw you out the window now."[/sp] I have no clue why, but that line killed me.
Yeah, there were some good lines (the window one and "out the window" were some highlights) and some bad ("someone's been a very bad lizard" was just so uninspired), but it sounded at times like the tightness of the mask was interfering with his lips. Like he had his hand pressed against his mouth as he talked or something, kinda muffled mumbly sorta thing, not the "HEY HO WHIZBANG FLIPPITY DIPPITY" liveliness Spidey's lines are usually delivered with. And am I the only one a little disappointed that after Gwen called him "Bug Boy", he didn't reply "You know, that's a common misconception, spiders are actually arach-*cut off by furious makeout session*" [editline]9th July 2012[/editline] I remember when they showed the "You seriously think I'm a cop?" part in the trailers, someone on /co/ had a BRILLIANT idea for a much better line: Car Thief: "Are you a cop?" Sidey: "Cop? Nah, fireman." *action ensues*

The only thing that I will miss in the upcoming movies is the appearance of J.K. Simmons.
