I know I'll sound like a huge asshole, but I'm glad it bombed. This movie is so cynical and forgettable, making it flop is a good first step to teach Hollywood to stop rebooting franchises every five years. Don't get me wrong- it wasn't terrible but a Spiderman franchise deserves more tought. This felt like they rushed it and threw in random ideas to make a script.
Because making 367 million on a budget of 230 million counts as bombing, right?
It's even broke a few records. There's just as many seemingly positive reviews as negative. If not more. And it's is a good movie. No arguing. It just falls into exactly the same plot holes as Batman Begins if anything. A tiresome origin story and a sub-par villain. Batman Begins got a ton of horrid reviews at the time too. It hasn't bombed at all. It's ready for some pretty awesome sequels.
This is their first hurdle, getting people to accept the idea of a new Spidey series so soon. They've generally succeeded, but now is the point where they'll either soar into greatness like the Nolan Bat-Films or crash into obscurity.

I'd rather wait a bit for Venom. I believe the suit should have it's own movie. Venom should have his own movie. I didn't like the idea of putting them all in one. Eddie Brock like Norman and Connors should be a long standing character before turning. In the mean time go crazy with the likes of Morbius, Ock, Electro and Mysterio. Those guys are fun and self contained. Still holding out for Gwen [sp]to die. I think that would be great. I love Emma Stone and Gwen but what an impact that would leave if they kept it loyal[/sp]
Yeah, but he made this face too much.
God forbid he actually show emotion. He definitely did better than Garfield at the "reacting to Uncle Ben dying" scene. Honestly, despite my frequent bitching, I don't really hate this movie. My big problem with it is that there is absolutely nothing that stands out about it. Everything it does has been done better somewhere else, and looking back, the movie is sort of a blur, save for a handful of moments. The original trilogy had a shitload of standout moments, like the train battle, Green Goblin's death, Doc Ock's death, that scene in the hospital with Doc Ock's arms, the birth of Sandman, etc. Though I am sure this will be fixed by the second installment, since it's done with origin story and the series will be free to do things that the original movies never did.

Basically, "eh, it's alright. not HORRIBLE, but nothing spectacular", and the thing that's most annoying is the people raving about how incredible it is and how everything before it was complete and utter shit.

[editline]13th July 2012[/editline]
A little bit of subtlety goes a long way.
How is being forgettable the same thing as being subtle?
I dunno. Uncle Bens death has never hit me emotionally. But when Peter said "Where is he now!?" about his dad, it really hit a string with me. I wouldn't say this movie is forgettable. The scene [sp]he catches the cars, the school fight and Lizard catching Peter as he falls[/sp] have all stuck with me as much as much as any other stand out moment from the other series. Nothing equal to the train battle scene, but no other movie really does get to that level of perfection
I think the best thing they did with Uncle Ben's death was the whole voicemail thing. But I hope they make the movies a bit brighter, LITERALLY. Like, look at the scene where Ben is shot. There's NO ONE on the streets, there's BARELY any light at all. And the only fight that takes place during the day is entirely indoors. Hopefully they let loose and allow the action to get a bit bigger next time, but to be fair, Lizard never was a "big fight taking up several city blocks" kinda villain, and that's the action that I like for my Spider-Man, gives him a chance to really move.
I found it an interesting first choice for a movie. Connors really is best with a build up. Not to mention how close in tone he is to Goblin (The scientist turned crazy by a serum of some kind, speaks to himself, multi personalities etc). A totally random villain like Electro or Mysterio would've been nice for a first film. So it's totally different to previous.
I don't mind the skating really. It wasn't necessary, but it didn't feel too out of character either really.
what character? he's so many things at the same time you can't even know what he is, being a skater only adds to the mess [editline]14th July 2012[/editline] the soundtrack was a little weird, especially the school fight part
Man, I hated the soundtrack to this movie. It constantly brought me out of the moment and competed with each scene instead of promoting it. Er, in my opinion. That track 0 vid on youtube that was supposedly part of this film, what happened to that?
I really dug the soundtrack. But I like bombastic over the top soundtracks. Probably from years of Doctor Who.
I'd define the soundtrack as unfitting and odd, not bombastic
Hmm, odd. I really liked it and checked reviews online and others do too. Yet I've seen Youtube comments crying about it. Like the film and game, the whole fucking world is split.
Yeah, the film did well at the box office. Unless you're comparing it to the original Spider-Man trilogy.
‘The Amazing Spider-Man’ easily won the weekend box office (it helps to open Monday at midnight and have a 6-day opening “weekend”) earning $75 million in it’s first 3 days ($140M total), making it a huge success by any standard. Unless your standard is the other Spider-Man movies, from the trilogy that ended just 5 years ago, because ‘Spider-Man‘ earned $115 million in it’s first 3 days. ‘Spider-Man 2‘ made $130 million, and ‘Spider-Man 3‘ topped them both with $151 million. The re-boot made $40M less than the lowest one, despite the advantage of higher ticket prices on 3D (which accounted for 44 percent of sales) and IMAX (which accounted for 10 percent). But it still made tons of money so Sony doesn’t really give a shit if you saw it because you somehow don’t know the most famous origin story in all fiction or saw it because you’re just kind of obligated to see movies like this in the summer. I didn’t do either. You can’t just film the same fucking action with new people and expect me to watch it. Unless we’re talking about porn, in which case I totally will.

it's because of the film's inconsistency some scenes are out of place and feel odd, while some others are just simply incredible
I smell deleted scenes.
I smell deleted scenes.
It felt like it should have been about a half hour longer, maybe with an extra fight, some more development for Ben, and another scene showing how the aftermath of Ben's death affects May.
Yeah, the film did well at the box office. Unless you're comparing it to the original Spider-Man trilogy.
The fact that Spider Man 3 did so well is basically just solid evidence ticket sales mean shit. People don't buy a ticket because they already like the movie.
I thought the movie was fantastic, what did you guys think of the scene after the credits?
i think i missed that
I actually really like the movie, it reminded me of the tv show on disney XD. the after credits: [sp] The guy sounded like he would be a good green goblin, but he was gone with lightning, but I don't see electro acting like that so I don't know [/sp] I really hope they do a good brock(sp?) and make really good, they could easily set it up for a spidy-venom duo against carnage. I actually liked this movie more than the others. They could make venom intense. Hey maybe we could even see wolverine appear in the movies

Not even a joke. The guy at the end is 100% confirmed to not be [sp]Norman Osborne or the Green Goblin[/sp]. The guy who played the Lizard said so. I still think it's Morbius as he gets mentioned in the game a lot and even has a trophy design despite the fact he doesn't appear. He appears like Batman. Wolverine is still owned by Fox. Sadly won't happen.
Except Spidey 4 was going to be Anne Hathaway as The Vulture. Not even a joke.
Oh yeah I read about that. Wasn't she gonna be like Vulture's wife or something called the Vultress.... Still pretty dumb, she would have been better as Black Cat, funnily enough she's playing Catwoman in The Dark Knight Rises :v:
Well actually she was cast as Felicia Hardy who is Black Cat. But during the course of the film instead of becoming Black Cat she becomes "The Vulturess" for no real fucking reason. Rami left as Sony were breathing down his neck with ideas. People say Vultress was their idea but I doubt it. Rami had a habit of changing established popular characters into his own game. Like making Sandman Uncle Bens killer, rewriting Venoms character totally, and as cool as Ock was he was once again somebody who had simply fallen victim to circumstance and wasn't truly evil. Like every other Rami villain. He completely re-wrote them apart from Goblin who was done very well minus the suit. Also if it was Sonys idea they probably would have stuck with it for the reboot if they thought it was such a money spinner. Hell they probably wouldn't have rebooted and just like a new director/cast take over like Burtons Batman.
