In addition you can put forward that this discriminates based on age, which violates I think either the 14th or 15th amendments.
Also in my town "curfew" means, if you are walking out late at night the cops will give you a ride home.
That basically falls under the fourteenth amendment, the equal protection clause. It calls for the equal protection of all citizens born or naturalized in the United States.
You're going to be 18 eventually so stop worrying about curfew laws. They arent a big deal
You're going to be 18 eventually so stop worrying about curfew laws. They arent a big deal
I seem to hear this a lot from people who dismiss the more minor minor's rights issues. Saying "you'll be 18 eventually, deal with it" does not solve, help, or make anything any better.

Well I was under 18 once I hated the laws but they were in place and are in place for a reason. People don't want children running around outside late at night. Quite a lot of teens would use dark to do illegal things, dont try and argue just because you or your friends wouldnt, a majority would. Even People older than 18 and into their 20s do illegal things after dark. Another issue is safety, if something happens to someone under 18 the parent is liable for the childs actions.
These laws are in place for a reason. once again you'll be 18 soon enough, then you've got the rest of your life to be out after 11PM or 10PM or whenever your curfew is.

I'm not often out that late anyway, so that sort of "you'll get to do it eventually" statement has little bearing on things. If these laws are in place for a reason, what makes that reason go away the day you turn 18?

Well there you go, if you don't do it anyways what effect does it have on you?
Also there are loopholes in the law though. Get a friend who is over 18 who wants to go outside to and just go with them. If a cop stops just say you're staying with them and they're you're guardian for the time being. I did that quite often when I was younger and the cops usually bought it.
Wow this is a fucking pathetic law, America is just keep getting better.

Just because a law doesn't directly affect me, that doesn't mean I won't criticize it. You still haven't answered my question though. If the reasoning behind this law is that "young people might do bad things at night", why does this suddenly go away when they become 18?

It doesn't and I didnt say it did. I included with my post that the child until 18 is the parents responsibility. If the kid does something illegal the parent can be held accountable for their actions. Once that person is over 18 if they break the law its only their fault.

So what? All this law does is eliminate a possibility where the parent may be able to be held accountable. How does that justify not letting them walk freely at night?

People wanna sleep at night. Kids are loud, common social stigmas you arent going to do anything about.

Of course nothing's going to be done about it if everyone has that attitude. This sort of thinking is the exact reason minors have unnecessarily limited rights in both school and the rest of American society.

Look you're only under 18 for a very small amount of time. I know right now it seems like forever but believe me that shit goes by so fast. And why should children have full rights of an adult? Most kids and teens are fucking stupid.

I don't care how long it may seem, or how old I am, the point is it's an injustice. I believe minors deserve every right afforded to them in the UN Convention on the Rights of Children.
Man I would have been so fucked if there was a curfew where I lived, My parents would never pick me up from parties so I would always be walking home at like 2 - 3 in the morning drunk.
Sure, let's let minors buy alcohol and cigarettes while we're at it!
Let's not discriminate against irresponsible tiny people with half developed brains!

The curfew laws in the USA allow you to be out after curfew under specific circumstances. Going home, emergencies, leaving home to go somewhere to stay, as long as its going somewhere to stay for the rest of the night the cops usually dont mind.
Now underage drinking.... you'd be fucked

I was about to post something like that but figured its pointless to argue he made up his mind that people under the selected adult age are just as smart as everyone else and capable of making rational choices.

No, I'm saying anything of the sort. I'm not saying minors should vote, smoke, drink, or drive until they're able, but laws like this don't actually prevent anything. Kids that go out to do crime or harm at night aren't going to be stopped by a curfew law with a fine, that's almost nothing. And in case you don't know what rights I am actually advocating for, read this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Convention_on_the_Rights_of_the_Child

I don't even know what to say to this, seriously
How can you compare

Yeah I know all about that nonsense. The laws do SOMETHING, they keep a lot of kids inside after 11PM. A while back I lived in a small town and if there weren't curfew laws the streets would have been filled with teens doing stupid things. With the laws in place it was relatively quiet, I'm not one to speak in favor of laws though. I didn't follow them, even under 18 I would go outside and lie to the cops, couple friends and myself climbed on top of the school a few times. As I said though most teens will do stupid shit just to do it and the laws barely do anything. The laws are in place in favor of major social stigmas that really wont be going anywhere even if every teenager yelled about it, they would just be shot down by parents and adults with the whole rebellious teen argument.
Not much is going to happen and those who care about those laws, myself included, stop giving a shit after they turn 18.

Its the idea that we should allow kids to make these decisions on their own. The responsibility is on the parents, the set legal age is simply 18. I just dont see the problem.

Do you not see how this is a bad thing?

That's just it. It's a horrible comparison.
Do you not see how this is a bad thing?
Once again even if its a bad thing. Its not going anywhere for a long time. You can try, I say go for it but you'll just be shot down by everyone over 18. Once anyone in this "movement" turns 18 they'll lose interest and stop giving a shit because it won't affect them anymore.

I don't see why I'd give any less of a shit once I turn 18. This curfew law doesn't affect me now, and I still criticize it, so why would I stop caring about other things that don't affect me directly just because I turn 18?

Why do you care in the first place?
If the law was restrictive on everyone then it would be an issue. Something like banning a plant is an issue that needs to be resolved, laws restricting the actions of children really dont seem like a serious issue.
If the law was restrictive on everyone then it would be an issue. Something like banning a plant is an issue that needs to be resolved, laws restricting the actions of children really dont seem like a serious issue.
It doesn't seem like a serious issue because a lot of adults hold minors in such low legal regard that their rights don't seem like an issue at all.
It doesn't seem like a serious issue because a lot of adults hold minors in such low legal regard that their rights don't seem like an issue at all.
Because they arent an issue and most teens are little shits. Oily bubbling balls of raging hormones who take everything seriously as if it were a personal attack on them.
It doesn't seem like a serious issue because a lot of adults hold minors in such low legal regard that their rights don't seem like an issue at all.
This is such a nonissue, I'm still having trouble comprehending why you're defending it so vehemently.
This is such a nonissue, I'm still having trouble comprehending why you're defending it so vehemently.
civil rights aren't a non-issue
Because they arent an issue and most teens are little shits. Oily bubbling balls of raging hormones who take everything seriously as if it were a personal attack on them.
Kindly take your head out of your ass and realize that infringing on minor's rights is just about as important as infringing on anyone else's. This "most teens are little shits" nonsense you continue to perpetuate does nothing to help anything. But do tell me why "they arent an issue"?
