As a Brit myself i find her strangely cute, like she's everyones grandma or something... Don't know about anyone else but we're having a small street paarttaay!
The louvre in france sees more tourism than buckingham palace, and the french beheaded the occupants in the late 1700's. Coming here to see the royal family is like saying you visit Japan to see the emporer.
The Louvre is now an art gallery with paintings such as the Mona Lisa. Just throwing that out there.
people visiting the queen as tourism is about as sensible as visiting america for the fabled 'black president' everyone knows shes here and she rarely speaks with the common filth of society, why the fuck would anyone pay thousands just to see someone that literally has no claim to fame other than happening to be born into her condition?
but whether you like it or not, the british monarchy is completely intertwined with the rest of our history, and the history is what brings a lot of tourists in
and that history will forever be present regardless of the monarchy in its present state. i like history, history's interesting, but i don't feel comfortable knowing that there are people in britain on the brink of poverty while millions can be freely spent on party days for MPs, then broadcast on the BBC under the guise of it being for everyone have you wondered why the flotilla stops before it goes into the poorer parts of london? this isn't about what i think of history, it's about what i think of societal justice.
rRotational symmetry.
You know what I meant. It's not directly half-half.

Why is there such an emphasis on the Royal Family being beneficial to tourism? I think it's undeniable that they do in some ways when considering how much draw their festivities can bring in, but I definitely wouldn't it consider it an end-all. Spain, Italy, and France are all without Monarchs but they have far more than tourism than the UK can ever imagine. Italy is pretty far ahead, Spain almost has double the amount of tourism, and France has almost three times the amount. Chrissakes the UK only enjoys the level of tourism that Turkey has. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_Tourism_rankings I'd like to visit the UK, but the Royal Family are one of things possibly furthest in my mind for reasons wanting to see the country.

Britain doesn't have that much to offer other than it's royal festivals for the most part
Culture dear boy culture.
What culture? Britains culture is shit.
What culture? Britains culture is shit.
Only because you're ignorant of it.
Yes actually I have been to London recently and it was crap, there's a few decent museums and land marks and that's about it.
and you were there for how long? a day or two?
Yes actually I have been to London recently and it was crap, there's a few decent museums and land marks and that's about it.
well since we're using opinion as the basis for this argument now, i'd just like to take this time out to express how i think you're a complete idiot
and you were there for how long? a day or two?
Just a day, I've been there previously for about three days and it was virtually the same crap. [editline]3rd June 2012[/editline]
well since we're using opinion as the basis for this argument now, i'd just like to take this time out to express how i think you're a complete idiot
Oh what else is there? It's bland down in London
honestly, i think you've got to be a fairly boring person to find a city like london bland. there really is so much to do, different types of things to do, i cannot understand how it could be boring. though, if all you did was go around a few stuffy museums and 'landmarks' i'm not surprised you thought it was shit.
I'd just rather go elsewhere in Europe, as a tourist destination London is one of the more boring areas of the UK, I prefer Liverpool over London myself.
Yes actually I have been to London recently and it was crap, there's a few decent museums and land marks and that's about it.
What did you expect exactly? Hundreds of bikini-clad girls patrolling the streets offering free BJs?
What did you expect exactly? Hundreds of bikini-clad girls patrolling the streets offering free BJs?
No I found it pretty void of anything particularly different to what is around where I live any way, just like Liverpool except I have to take a 2 hour train there.
I'd just rather go elsewhere in Europe, as a tourist destination London is one of the more boring areas of the UK, I prefer Liverpool over London myself.
ive been to london more times than you can imagine and i can say that london is probably one of the most cultural cities in europe. sometimes i go there with friends and spend little more than £10, and can have a day that far outdoes a day out in the neighbouring essex for £60. the architecture is so eclectic and amazing, the art galleries are inspiring and collossal, the shopping districts have everything you could imagine and the sheer industrial feel of the whole city really makes you think how great the world can be when you put its technology into aspect however what really does it for me is how london always seems to be at the forefront of music and the arts, ive been to a few clubs in my lifetime, and outside of london they just seem to be boring. whether it's an elderly rastafarian in a tube station playing 3 instruments at once and singing over it or an underground music night at fabric or cable, the soul and excitement always seems to be there for me. producers and musicians from all over the world come to london for inspiration and personally, i can see why. even when ive been there for protests and stuff you can never fully get rid of the euphoric feeling the city can give to you. to write off london as a boring centre for landmarks and museums is a sad approach, and i advise that next time you go there, go with some friends who are willing to take a chance in a place you're lucky to have the opportunity to visit.
I've heard they are renaming Big Ben in honor of the Queen, which I think is kind of bs because it really is a historical monument. And yeah I know they did the same thing in honor of queen Victoria but still.

I just think that stuff like this brightens the country up, I don't want to live in a boring republic where nothing really changes.
Not even going to jump in on the royalty debate. They aren't going anywhere any time soon and quite frankly, I'm happy with my four day weekend.
I'd just rather go elsewhere in Europe, as a tourist destination London is one of the more boring areas of the UK, I prefer Liverpool over London myself.
It's actually rather impressive that you managed to find London boring. There are so many museums, galleries, pubs, clubs, markets, festivals, exhibitions, buildings, theatres, sporting events, parks and landmarks that getting bored is actually quite a mean feat.
What did you expect exactly? Hundreds of bikini-clad girls patrolling the streets offering free BJs?
Camden is exactly like this. If by bikini-clad girls you mean homeless weed dealers, and by free BJs you mean overpriced chinese food.
