let's just hope the shitposters don't get a dirty bomb

what do gold members even want the gmf to be
i take one peek in there and it reminds me of the oify
do you imagine some place where people set up gold-exclusive communities like gm exclusive game servers or gm local meetups
what does the community there even want, it's hard to identify other than "less shitposting"
i think that's completely valid, but to me, there's little difference between being gold and blue anyway. if the one differing factor is that you've been here longer, posted more, or a combination of the two (given that these things applied to you during the right moon phases in which these arbitrary qualifications deemed you gilded), then there isn't anything really establishing a natural environment for good posting
it's all artificial: people want it, but time has shown that it doesn't work out
it might be more meaningful if the community curated people who were notable members or at least well-liked
i like the idea of a community existing that seems so great you want to be a part of that, but to attract that type of scenario, you have to set standards, and oifyish posting is anything but
[editline]1st July 2015[/editline]
i know people in facepunch that i personally respect, and have become good friends with them, and they bring something to the community
the reality is those same individuals get no attention, because there's no established way to say to everyone on fp, in a quantifiable, agreed upon way, that these members are the cream of the crop
Ill be honest though the only thing im getting from this thread is stop being rude so idk
If it's improved since then, I'll probably give it a chance again. My first experience didn't really land the best impression from then on I guess.
Oh, no, I mean Craptasket has improved. Not the GMF. Haven't set foot there in 5 years.
I've been reading this thread; and while I am a blue member, and therefore I don't know too much of what's going on in terms of the Gold Members forum and the like, I do want to say that reading this thread really warms my heart. I haven't been a member of this website for all that long, but I have met a lot of legitimately great people here that I've enjoyed getting to know and eventually have became good friends with many folk.
Anyway, this thread goes to show how cherished this site is for so many people probably not all unlike myself, since huge discussions like this wouldn't take place if people didn't care so much for the site. I hope you guys find a solution to the issues you're having/have had with the site, and that the outcome pleases everyone.

well, it started out as a giveaway thing for members who'd been here long enough so there was some sort of standard there, but then it went up for sale so that was thrown out the window pretty quickly
but then again there's tons of members who've been here for less than a few years who've already grasped what's acceptable and what isn't, and there's 2005 people that have as much self-awareness as a potato, so it's not like the standard was ever that strong anyway
in the end, the gmf already serves a purpose (even if it's a small and barely relevant one but it could easily be expanded) and it's not like you can just degold everyone so imo we should just use what we've got already (whatever that ends up meaning), eh?
After reading through this thread nand from the random snippets that have leaked since I've been here, I imagine the GMFs to be something like this.

Also, who was the dude that found an exploit and leaked pretty much all of the GMF? it was around 2010 I think, and I believe he visited WAYWO a lot.
every time you say this i will always be there to remind you that you posted in that thread more than any other person
I wasn't referring to making fun of shitty posts, I was referring to targeting users (remember that one guy that kept pissing about Daniel Smith?). There's a big difference between posting sexy posts and deliberately trying to harass someone because screw it you don't like them
there's way bigger reasons as to why it went to shit. Posting sexy posts was fun.
although, I didn't realize I was being that awkward kid that was just kind of there until it was too late, and that makes me a super non-cool person.
If we're all openly talking about what to do with the GMF in GD of all places, can we not drop that silly "don't leak the GMF" rule just once?
It just seems a little asinine to have a discussion about the GMF when only a small number of users have any actual understanding of its problems, and said users can't actually talk in detail for fear of being banned.
Maybe the mods should move this discussion to the GMF itself?
the "Don't leak the GMF" rule makes it like it's some kind of mystical secret exclusive VIP area for only the best boys in town
but that was kind of ruined when you could just buy gold and half the fucking regulars on the forum become gold. Including a bunch of idiots buying it "For the rust keys"
It's really nice to see mods actually care.
there are so many forums for games where I see spam actively being posted and people actively trolling with mods replying "STOP THAT OR ILL GIVE YOU THE FIRST of YOUR 10 WARNINGS, AFTER THAT YOU GET A BAN"
the mod causes the entire thread to literally turn into a shithole by not actually doing anything about it

Funny you say that. Out of all the times I've been gilded on reddit, /r/Lounge seems to be a pretty chill place to hang out.
There's also /r/Top and /r/RealLounge, also private subreddits and pretty relaxed places, SJW-free, where you can find decent, respectful discussions. Both are small subreddits, mind you, so there's no rampant shitposting or anything like that. I'm also pretty close to gain access to /r/CenturyClub and I hear it's a nice place, very separated from the usual bullshit that pollutes reddit.
It's a shame that being a VIP user on reddit gets you a lot more than what you can get here on FP as a GM, judging by what I've seen and read over the last couple years.
As the hugbox master and previous complainer, the main thread in GMF hasn't been super offensive or anything. You just have to be able to handle a little snark (which is a good change of pace from the rest of the forum), and try your best not to enter like a bull in a China shop. Most of the problems that have plagued it are gone, and the only problems you'll run into are when you cross the line and do stupid things like make fun of troubled individuals. Sometimes "sexy posts" are brought up, but usually with members that are banned or being blatantly racist or whatever, and in a way that doesn't overthrow the thread or really reek of elitism. You also get a lot more freedom than the rest of the forum, which is pretty relaxing honesty.
I personally have a small project thread in there which is nice, because it's smaller, quicker updates with smaller, quicker responses that wouldn't work out too well in the rest of the forum.
The only qualm I've had is that I don't want to start too much in there just because I feel like I want more members to see. If there were more people that could be made gold I'd be more active in the forum.
I remember when facepunch used to do summer camping, with mods, gold members and other people who signed up in the general discussion, now that doesn't happen any more.
Shows a lot about how it's changed

I think gold should be about harvesting a community of seasoned, well-known members - not about perks.
there have been more posts in this thread alone than the entire GMF has seen in probably weeks idk
Like what can we even change it to be like, other than exclusivity there's no reason why it should be better than other places. It's not like anyone has earned gold member through any achievement. We have nothing unifying us other than arbitrary status
This is a nice change to the shit I used to hear about the GMF. I'm genuinely interested in Goldship for once. I used to be kind of disappointed that I missed the date requirements and such, but only because I wanted a larger avatar.
Remove gold, everyone back to blue.

I'll have you know I worked my fingers to the bone from the safety of my neckbeard cave to get those 2000 posts

Thankfully it was right before garry deleted all of the pre-2009 posts, I lost like 500 from that
Remove gold, everyone back to blue.
make everyone a gold member
Make everybody a green member, make mods yellow, make gold members red and make banned users brown
So is the gmf clean yet?
Pretty tidy
squeaky clean
the posts are basically shimmering
what a nice sheen, great polish
