because the one's who couldn't behave in the main forum before got banned :)
so the GMF is cleaned up now?
The GMF is pretty much self-cleaning as people eventually either get banned or leave of their own accord.
Gold members posting here should remember that your if posts in GD leak anything specific which happened in the GMF you may be banned.
No it's not you just seem to think that because the usual shitposters are the ones that clicked with you and accepted you.
[editline]30th June 2015[/editline]
But since the usual suspects are gone anyway maybe the GMF could be used for cool stuff again?
The problem in the past was that as soon as someone new came in and tried to provide something(servers, games, stuff) he got trolled to hell for "trying to fit in too hard" when in reality it's just some dude trying to be nice. (can't share the details)
Wait, what? Didn't it already get mopped up a while ago? Did it really fall down to the same levels of the previous GMF?

no it's been fine for the past few months which makes this whole thread kinda weird

This was all done as three parts from the start, a lot planning was done behind doors for like months, Part A worked perfectly and stopped the worst of it. This thread is about starting GMF something fresh, get activity going & what is explained in the OP, part B. Part C is is keep it that way for the long haul.
A ton of moderators were in on this from the beginning, even ex-mods.
It's extremely easy to go from laughing at someone in the safety of your clubhouse to stalking and harassing them
i regularly get salt for mentioning the gmf in a bad light, apparently im the ultimate gmf hater or something lol
Now that I remember, there are a handful of users there that really do perpetuate a hateful attitude.
A long-ass time ago, I remember posting there and someone PMed me with a message that sounded encouraging saying something like "hey, you'll fit in soon! don't you worry, just tell me how you're feeling" or something to that effect.
I remember my whole honest response being posted and mocked in the gmf after I replied back and feeling like an utter dumbass for thinking that someone wanted to help me be a better poster there.
I don't have any specific usernames and I've deleted my PMs after that incident, but I can see how some people can really bring down the appeal of the gmf community.
once someone added me on steam just to tell me they didnt like me
it shattered my world
Am I the only person who posts in the GMF solely because I'm bored out of my fucking skull and occasionally get graced with the added bonus of people flipping out over text on an internet forum
epic trollin is my hobby dude
why does this always happen when i'm away from fp for more than a day
[editline]30th June 2015[/editline]
not complaining just curious

tbh a lot of it was me being like 15 and still really naive at the time
I didn't really know there were people dedicated to making someone feel like shit :v:
Facepunch has introduced me to dozens of great people and two of the shittiest most manipulative ones
NOT GONNA NAME (if you're reading this it probably isn't you though they're both permad)
do people even post in gmf, I do like twice a month in the games thing but that's just because it's very general
I liked it when there were multiple gold forums, if anything it gave people ideas of what kind of topics to make

FP helped facilitate international travel for me and my girlfriend, thanks Garry

this is right. I don't see what the problem has been after everyone moved to slack
I don't really recall anyone being harassed in the past couple months at all everyone there is usually just calm and discussing something or just passing time
even zone posts there a lot and it's not like the whole subforum chases him out harrassing him along the way even if a lot of people made fun of him in the past
the biggest thing you see happen is someone posts something that just seems off and someone will say what are you doing or something and a few posts later everyone moves on. idk why this sort of thread is happening again really
Tbh I can't see the real benefit of gold forums aside from a few threads. A significant amount of blues are quality posters and I don't see the benefit in a discussion excluding them based on whether or not they managed to buy/obtain gold.
This thread is hella split between "gmf is fine what nothing bad ever happened bluh bluh" and "gmf needs to change bluh bluh."
This'll all go a lot quicker if y'all would just decide who to boot and move on it.

A long ass time ago it used to be a place for gold members to share content which was limited, you'd see people giving out CD keys, or organising servers and shit. You could also share things that would get you banned in the rest of the forums.
Then that all went away and it became a dozen or so shitposters circlejerking over how much better they were than the rest of the forums. It got so bad they even started to leave th GMF to harass people on the forums and in PMs, going so far as to accuse people of having sex with animals or being paedophiles for disagreeing with them or arguing against them. Thankfully many of those people are banned now.

When I became gold in 2010 I noticed everything was really ~~exclusive~~ and what not. Saw some thread that was dedicated to posting other peoples Facebook pictures and never really bothered checking it out much.
Just get General Disruption back

shitposters attract shitposters
The gold member subforums were pretty high quality. I liked the one for projects people were working on. I wish that was back in some form, whether it was gold member exclusive or not.
it's still there -- just not listed on the forum index
http://facepunch.com/forumdisplay.php?f=409
current gmf is nice -- there's a certain thread in there that's really useful, actually. it's kind of like a small group of people hanging around a camp fire, you can't just come in there and make everything about yourself.
Tbh I can't see the real benefit of gold forums aside from a few threads. A significant amount of blues are quality posters and I don't see the benefit in a discussion excluding them based on whether or not they managed to buy/obtain gold.
Back then I would disagree. But being gold doesn't have any significance behind it anymore so yeah.
I kind of hope that management figures out what to do with gold membership since you can't get it anymore. Having a distinction between members doesn't make any sense anymore now that it's a divide between people who bought it before you stopped being able to get it and those who didn't. Seems outdated when the system it was built around is gone. Maybe make a difference between old and new golds? Bronze members? I dunno.
Of course, me being blue means that I'm not allowed to have an opinion since I'm biased, but I'd think the same thing even if I was gold. And I only want gold for the larger avatar, not some sense of superiority over having a gold name.
[editline]1st July 2015[/editline]
I guess I'd just rather have some concrete answer of what to do with it one way or the other rather than just leaving it in a vague limbo.
[editline]1st July 2015[/editline]
If the GMF is a shithole the larger avatar is the only reason to get it anyway.

i'm pretty sure there are more active golds than active blues :v:
i'm pretty sure there are more active golds than active blues :v:
Well anybody who really cared enough about their image on Facepunch would probably want to get the larger avatar.
I'd buy it if Boostar were still around.

you get to view the RC
there were some really fucking funny threads in there -- some laughing with the banned user, not at -- but it got wiped a little while ago
I actually hope for a sponsor kind of deal. We're other golds can help sponsor potential blues into golds where a mod could approve it. It would be a real neat idea.
That sounds like a neat idea, although it sounds like it'd be easily abused if it were some automatic system, and I doubt any mods would want to deal with the hassle of looking over users manually.
The idea of being able to get gold if you get somebody/some people who could vouch for you, and you were a good noodle with a clean record sounds fairly practical.
I think what dooms most "alternate way to get gold" schemes are the mods going "that sounds like too much effort" or it'd never get past Garry. The only people in any position to do anything about it are the people who are going to care the least about it, after all.
you get to view the RC
Oh yeah, forgot about that.
you should have to apply to get gold
a mod or selected gold member will look over the applicant's post history, event log, ask a few other people from the threads they regular about them, etc.
Sorry, you need to Log In to post a reply to this thread.
