• Why do we always assume aliens are more advanced than us?

My theory is: Why not other humans in the world? People are always comparing earth with other planets to see if they are alike. Many of them are.
when i think of aliens i think of them coming to us not the other way round, although i guess i could go either way

Stargate
maybe there are microscopic aliens?
If we find aliens, you'd think they'd be less advanced than us. But if they find us, they'd definately be more advanced. I mean, whoever finds the other has thought of how to travel thousands of light years without taking centuries to get wherever they were headed.
if they meet us half way from each other's planets, then they wont be that dumb, now would they? most likely, we won't find any life when we are still bound to this planet. We might if we go out to keep our selves alive when the sun burns out. But we have no idea how intelligent life will be.
Yeah, they'll be waiting a long time. Us: Them:
Since we can't travel any significant distance in space yet, we assume that any aliens that could reach us would be more advanced than us. In order to reach us, they would require immense resources, thus posing the threat that they might harvest the earth. Natural selection implies that they'll most likely care first and foremost about the preservation of their own species.
If these aliens are advanced enough to do all this then in what way could we endanger them enough to destroy us all? If such aliens exist and are as advanced as that then we mean absolutely nothing to them other than a passing curiosity.
It would be funny if Aliens were simply other Humans or if Humans were part of one big Human species and so the other "Aliens" are some kind of Humans with a minor difference. Crazy shit when you think about it out of the box.

It's not really an idea just a random thought I had, who says Aliens must be advanced or even "alien" to us? We don't know until it happens so I personally don't care too much.
Steven hawking once said that aliens will probably have used up their natural resources and will just be nomadic people looking for planets to use.
No he didn't.
No he didn't.
Yes he did you dumb shit, read the news before making assumptions.
I was talking about you saying "wow man what if aliens are just like humans like the same species man wow" because that's absolutely ridiculous
I don't see how not, who knows; it's a GIANT universe out there and I wouldn't be surprised if there was other humans or species that are extremely human save small differences.
Aliens are real wheather they can travel through space or not the fact that we have only had "sophisticated" technology for about a century compared to the universe that has been around LITERALLY forever therefor the chances of there being another race of beings is very likely however for it to be humanoid would be very unlikely also the chances of us being able to make decent contact with them would be even less likely and because we will not be able to understand eachother war will probably ensue
I've always thought that almost all aliens will most likely be single celled organisms, and that we will probably find them first in our own solar system. Life doesn't seem as rare as we make it out to be. Intelligent life, yes. Life in general, no. Now that we've found water on our closet neighbouring planets/planetoids, the basis for life, it seems more probable that primitive life exists almost anywhere in the universe.
I don't see how not, who knows; it's a GIANT universe out there and I wouldn't be surprised if there was other humans or species that are extremely human save small differences.
We're not going to share a common human ancestry with other humanoids out there. There could very easily be other humanoids out there that are like us in a lot of ways but they wouldn't be related to us on an evolutionary scale. Even if they looked like and acted like humans by all means, they wouldn't actually BE humans unless we proved that we had an evolutionary link.
Yes, but the route of social evolution undergone is a very unique one, what i'm saying is that the Aliens wouldn't know war as we do, the war we know is harsh and merciless with gigantic machines and weapons, while they may have the athletes as you suggested I really find it amazing how our civilization is getting to the point, where nature, and anything natural is no longer a threat, at the exponential rate that technology has advanced in just 200 years, with little to no slowing down, think of what the human race with have developed in 2,000 years?
Or they are hyper-intelligent apex predators with millions of years of evolution behind them, a situation more likely seeing as a species able to survive long enough to develop interstellar travel must also be able to defend itself.
How would Christians account for aliens? Did god make them in his image too, or are they abominations who must be purged in the name of god.
Would a movie be fun if the aliens were cavemen and attacked us with sticks? I think laser guns and cloaking is much more interesting.
Idea for a game: Set in the 25th century, you play as an alien and must fend off the invading humans bent on enslaving your race and using your planet's resources for their own good.
Because our technology will probably never be advanced enough to explore space in our lifetime, so we like to think that if there is life out there, it'll come to us. And if it can find us, it's technology will be much more advanced than ours.
What's to say that there is only primitive life out in space, and that we are selves are a primitive species? Many questions, just don't have the evidence to get an answer
This is an interesting series of books, that actually provides a good explanation of one way you could look at aliens. The main alien race in it, while originally helping Humanity with exploring the stars, have absolutely no ambition to advance, as they see their race at the pinnacle of knowledge and technology. They can't understand why on earth the humans want to expand out when they themselves are quite content with what they have.
Because the universe is 4.5 billion years old, we have been on earth for merely 3-5 millions years.
Because we always assume Aliens will find us first. Then they have resources. I assume we'll try to take it over and abuse the shit out of it.
Avataaaaarr....
What if they look like us? :ohdear:
i have always wondered this myself, since i was 10. its probable that there are some aliens which have the technology to travel all the way here and have made contact, but its also probable that other species of aliens are as advanced as we are, or maybe inferior. maybe they are just inventing a flying transport equivalent to what the airplane is in this planet. edit: maybe they are more advanced in certain aspects, but inferior in others.
What if aliens are almost exactly like us, technology wise, but look different, and they're just as disappointed as us when we contact them. What if our planets are (For example) 500au's apart. What if we just kind of, meet half-way at 250au's? why do we immediately assume that because they're aliens, that they have hover-technology and have created some sort of battery that runs forever and doesn't pollute? What if they're LESS advanced even, and just stumbled upon space exploration by accident? Steven hawking once said that aliens will probably have used up their natural resources and will just be nomadic people looking for planets to use. What if aliens are to the point where they don't abuse they're environment? what if these aliens don't hate their planet?
