Why do we always assume aliens are more advanced than us?
To quote Douglas Adams, space is really, really big. To be able to travel to another solar system in anything resembling a reasonable time would require tremendous speed; it seems reasonable to assume that their technology would be pretty damn advanced to travel that far. There's every likelihood that in certain areas we might in fact know far more than them, but overall the chances would tend towards them being far more advanced.
Solar Sail? :ninja:
Solar Sail? :ninja:
Solar sails are bullcrap.
space vagina...
Solar sails are bullcrap.
Because of dust and stuff in space or is it the principle itself that's crap?

It's just the principle that is crap. They are an 'ok' system for moving shit around in the inner planets, but their efficiency decreases as the get away from the Sun, because the number of photons per square kilometer of the sail decreases rapidly (Inverse Square Law).
Even if you use laser satellites to pump the sail, you would need over a thousand satellites armed with titanic lasers powered by either huge fusion reactors or solar panels several kilometers in diameter.
And that's to bring it up to half of lightspeed. Deceleration? lolno

They could have been lucky and found technology on their home planet and thought it was a god so they started a religion based on the spaceship
/stargate
Because our species hasn't been around for a relatively long time, so we assume 'aliens' most likely have been around longer.
Always?
I assume that extraterrestrial life comes in a large and varying spectrum, everyting from Protozoes to sentinent species that are more advanced than us, and all the varying unimaginable things that can appear in a different planetary system with a different evolutionary path than on earth.
Most often though I think of the realistically most common life, mikroorganisms.

I wish I could rate you informative an infinite number of times.

We could be the first for all we know.
Because the universe is 4.5 billion years old, we have been on earth for merely 3-5 millions years.
Wrong.
The universe 13.75 billions years old.
Wrong.

And humans have not been around for millions of years, they have only been around for about 100,000.
OH-MY-GOD!
I have constantly made this argument throughout life,
The chances of a species evolving the way we did in the manipulation of technology is close to none, multiply that by the fact of how limited life is in the universe and you find that we are a very, very, unique species, and its not crazy to think that we're not just the kinds of the earth, but possibly, much, much more than that, and the odds that a species is not just equal to us but GREATER is close to none
According to?
And humans have not been around for millions of years, they have only been around for about 100,000.
We, as a species, have existed for about 300,000-500,000 years. Modern civilization has only popped up in the last 100,000 years, though, so you are somewhat correct.

I thought modern civilization started only 10,000 years ago (End of Ice Age I think).

Not if you're a rock... Or a dead hamster...
Not if you're a rock... Or a dead hamster...
Or if you live for millenia.
Because they are.
Or if you live for millenia.
Mine makes more sense.
I thought modern civilization started only 10,000 years ago (End of Ice Age I think).
Yep, that's the formation of cities. We existed as nomadic tribes far before then. Should have properly phrased my previous post.
Yes he did you dumb shit, read the news before making assumptions.
No he didn't.
Aliens will probably have used up their natural resources and will just be nomadic people looking for planets to use.
=/=
Theres a risk that some aliens might have used up their natural resources and will just be nomadic people looking for planets to use.
Douglas Adams : "the triple-breasted whore of ????(forgot)" Lol the most WTF part of the book
Because we always assume Aliens will find us first.
Then they have resources. I assume we'll try to take it over and abuse the shit out of it.
Avatar.
Unless it/they evolved in space...
Space Cows. 'Nuff said.
Idea for a game: Set in the 25th century, you play as an alien and must fend off the invading humans bent on enslaving your race and using your planet's resources for their own good.
?
I was thinking this.
Maybe they are less advanced than us.
If they had obtained a level of technology able to travel to different stars but had not advanced culturally, they would be something similar to the Goa'uld in Stargate. Having technology advance beyond culture often results in misuse, primitive societies with Nuclear weapons do stupid things with them.
or the collectors
or the krogans
This doesn't happen.
Anything's possible :colbert:
How will we even speak to aliens
we wouldn't even know their language
