That's right, I'm visiting the land of funny accents and I want your suggestions on what I should see! I fly into London and I'll be doing the usual tourist thing there for a few days then I'll be traveling up the belly of her majesty's beautiful land to Newcastle, where I think it'll actually be more difficult to understand the locals than my Greek neighbors. :v: From Newcastle I'm going up into Scotland and after that I'll be back down to London. I would love to hear some suggestions on what I should do and see, I don't want to just do the typical tourist-y stuff; so feel free to fill me in on cool things to see/do!
As a Newcastle local, visit the Gate and Eldon Square. They're genuinely the only decent parts of the city worth visiting. Don't worry about the accent, just smile and nod!
offer blowjobs to people dressed in hooded tops and tracksuit bottoms trust me
It seems you've already left. I was going to suggest bringing a protractor.
Eat a McDonalds. It's amazing how they get that stuff to taste the same anywhere in the world [editline]13th October 2012[/editline] Go to any chip shop and buy a battered mars bar [editline]13th October 2012[/editline] In Scotland you can get battered haggis
England is Fantastic! You all have quite an amazing and beautiful country, it's better than I ever anticipated. Currently I'm staying at RAF Alconbury for 5 days then we're driving up Englad. I plan to stop and see a lot of the non-touristy side of The UK. I appreciate all of the replies and will keep up with this thread. Haba I just hope I survive my father's driving. Being on the left side is a whole experience in its own. :v:
I visited London once and it was freaking awesome. Only downside was the subway. So insanely cramped and hot :v:
Oh shit you're near me. Go to Cambridge it's a really lovely city and has some very beautiful buildings :>
Icemaz Cambridge has been beautiful! Funny enough my favorite part of driving around England is seeing the houses, it's so different than what I'm used to in the states. Tomorrow I'm heading down into Cambridge to sightsee and such; my dad really wanted to go since its the first times he's been back to the UK in over 20 years.
Stay away from Essex, act like it's been quarantined
Duly noted :v: I'm actually going to Edinburgh.
Actually mate, do go to Glasgow. Beautiful city with a really interesting history. In my opinion it's better than Glasgow. Bit cheaper as well. Oh and be sure to sample the local wine, "buckfast". Anything between a number 10 - 20 is a good vintage. Also, if you're in Edinburgh and you fancy a drink, stay away from Rose/George Street, take a walk up to the Grassmarket it's a bit cheaper and less of a tourist trap.
Just got back from walking around Cambridge, it was fantastic. I saw my first chav! He didn't look very friendly :v: nor did his mates. I definitely would love to live here, the houses are beautiful and everything is so close that walking errywhere would be enjoyable.
Stay the fuck away from Yorkshire. It's England's own little Third World Country. And remember to take a trip to the best British country, Scotland!

Jesus, It's not as bad here in Essex as everyone makes out.. Just avoid the rough areas and you're fine

The pubs are really friendly as well though expensive.
I just went to Nottingham and had a great time walking around, we stopped at the pub right outside the castle for pints; The oldest pub/inn in all of England. What a fascinating place full of culture and history. The park and ride bus services is the best thing in the world; it's such a life saver. A notable thing I have to say is how friendly everyone is; and I mean everyone! I half expected to be treated with a cold shoulder being that I'm American, but everyone is just so warming and welcoming. I feel right at home here; I know back in Atlanta I'd be hard pressed to find someone to point me in the right direction or go out of their way to show me where a shop is. Also, English girls, goddamn I never want to leave :v:
If you go into pubs and are a man who enjoys proper beer then find a nice place with decent guest ales, they are fucking lush. I live in Birmingham at the moment due to uni and it's a fucking dive, not much interesting to see other than the Giant screen cinema at Millennium point. Or if you're into clubbing then Broad street is a good night out. All I can say that's unique about England/UK is the lovely countryside, the dales in yorkshire, the lake district and the peak district, if you're into walking and camping and stuff. Bournemouth and Woolacombe have lovely beaches, but they're south coast/south England, but it's also really cold at this time of year, source: I was surfing in Woolacombe yesterday and it was fucking freezing. My balls are still nestled in my lungs. that's my input anyway, I hope you enjoy your time here, where are you joining us from? [editline]15th October 2012[/editline]
Also, English girls, goddamn I never want to leave :v:
Yea they're amazing if you want a range of STI's and a sore ear in the morning.
I love the weather here, I went for 90F weather in Crete to 40F or so here in Huntingdon which was such a surprising but nice change. It feels more like home back in Georgia around this time of year. Tomorrow I'm taking the train to London and I'm seeing all the typical stuff plus popular Doctor Who related stuff; I am so excited! I would so risk an STI for some of the women I've seen :v: I mean goddamn, even the average girls are still extremely attractive.
I went through east london when I visited Some cunts poured beer on me and my friend from a 5th floor window

Don't let them spoil the fun!
So nice to hear you're enjoying our country. Like DevilX I also love the Bournmouth and Poole area beaches, and a number of beaches in Cornwall, especially St Ives. Maybe you'll get a chance to come over again one summer, shame it's not really beach weather right now

I hate just hitting the tourist attractions; I don't feel that I really see a country that way. Also, sorry about being on this account, my younger brother was logged in :v: Wow, it looks like both my brothers now have FP accounts, I can never escape them.
It's a shame the likes of the chavs you saw spoil it for people, but pretty much everywhere has rotten eggs. Don't let them spoil the fun!
I find it interesting; every culture has it's bad eggs of society. I get a sudden burst of pride from my Atlanta roots and the hip-hop/rap community. The pubs are really friendly as well though expensive.
Yeah, they are a tad pricey, but the trick I've learned being an American abroad is to just stop thinking of exchange rates; it tends to make me overly frugal and not want to spend/have fun. This is especially important to me on this trip. Though, when we went to the Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem pub the Robin Hood Ale we had was only 3 quid which is like 6-7$ and that's about average in the states.
If you get a chance, student bars are proper cheap, the pub on my campus on friday nights does £1.50 pints.
Go to Camden! If Essex is where the snooki-a-likes hang out, Camden is where you'll find all the goth chicks in corsets. [sp]Also, druge dealers. soo many drug dealers.[/sp]
Who are you traveling with?
Bristol, for graffiti and underground music. if that's your thing.
Bristol, for graffiti and underground music. if that's your thing.
Bristol's also a p. nice place in general since they cleaned it up, or at least it was when I visited a few months ago. Quite modern and just generally pleasant. [editline]16th October[/editline] but obviously that would depend on where you go
Bristol, for graffiti and underground music. if that's your thing.
I fucking love Bristol, Im a massive Drum & Bass and general Bass music fan and you just cant beat a night out in Bristol. Except maybe Fabric in London. if clubbing/ravings your thing
Brighton if you're into gays.
