I wonder if hipsters realize they're extremely mainstream nowadays. If they do, chaos would ensue.
hipsters are always mainstream for a while because everyone else around them begins to adopt some of their culture (hipsters are part of a subculture). Once they find something new they'll move on and leave behind everything they had before, this has happened forever, style is almost always defined by hipsters it just happens way before the mainstream culture catches on to it. Basically hipsters wear or do things, eventually the norm culture catches on to it but by this point the hipster culture has already moved on to something new, currently though, it seems that we've caught up with them before they moved to something different so hipster culture and mainstream culture are overlapping. Therefore, hipster culture is the mainstream culture. And like OP said, you can't define someone as a hipster just because they dress a certain way, a lot of people just want to stay stylish. Hipsters have their own sets of beliefs and everything too. And not ALL of them are pretentious fuckwads. Most of them are pretty laid back. However, the ones who think they are better than everyone because they're "different" (even though they are conformists in their own way) can go choke on a fat one.
So hipsterism is now... mainstream? We're so friggin screwed.
Can't people just respect other peoples opinions? Jesus
Can't people just respect other peoples opinions? Jesus
Psssh, no.
I got called a hipster because I said I was tired of hearing about some band all the time, and I was sad :saddowns:
So hipsterism is now... mainstream? We're so friggin screwed.
Only the way they dress, really, which isn't so bad in my opinion. People will forever do things that make them feel cool, which is what hipsters don't do. They don't give a shit about what other people think of them, i guess you could use the terms hipster and hippie interchangeably, hipster is just the new term for hippies essentially.
wow man get a new job
You would quit your job because of something your boss wears? You're not gonna get very far in life if it matters that much to you. Getting a job isn't easy these days.
Hipster isn't a trend. It's not even a thing. It's just something anti-social nerds call people who disagree with them.
This one friend of mine was listening to some techno, and asked if I wanted to listen, to which I responded "No thanks, Techno doesn't interest me. 90s rock and below for me only" Apparently, that makes me a hipster to him. :colbert:
If anything, it's the hardcore scene that made that popular. That, like a lot of other things, is becoming more and more accepted and normal now, though. In fact, my boss has his ears pierced like that.
I hope youre wrong. Its fucking disgusting, to say the least.
arcade fire? More like arcade FAIL
okay i guess im a hipster for hating new music
Other way round duh.
Annoyance with the fact that a lot of popular music is really shitty Annoyance with the fact that the aforementioned shitty music is more popular than music that is infinitely better
I couldn't agree more. Most of the people I know listen to Breakin' Benjamin, "hardcore metal" that I don't know, and some pop music that I don't want to bother to know their names, whilst I listen to good bands, like Lynyrd Skynyrd, Led Zeppelin, Jonathan Coulton (the man's a genius), Santana, Aerosmith, and other great bands from days passed, and so I get called a "hipster" from time to time, because I like songs that arent grinded on the radio and are overly hyped even though they suck.
get over yourself people can call you whatever they want
So, according to you, I can go around calling people "gay niggers"?
I've never heard anyone say the word "hipster". Ever
Neither have I. I say hooligans, and even that is extremely rare. [editline]29th April 2011[/editline]
So, according to you, I can go around calling people "gay niggers"?
He probably should have clarified himself. You can call anyone anything you want so long as it is not racist. I think there are a couple other reasons as well but I can't remember them. There's a loophole too depending where you live. You can say "In my opinion you are a _____." And they can't do anything about it since you are sharing your opinion. So you can say to an officer "In my opinion you're all dumb pigs." and they can't arrest you. Only when you say things like "You're a stupid fucking pig." can they do anything about it. Either way they can take you to the precinct and hold you for 24 hours, but that's a lot of paper work.
Hipstr is ruining the whole 'punk' thing for me.
I hope youre wrong. Its fucking disgusting, to say the least.
Fair enough. Some people like it, some people don't, just like everything else in the world. It's just not something I'm personally repulsed by.
Hipstr is ruining the whole 'punk' thing for me.
It's okay Emo's ruined it for Goths and Scene ruined it for Emo's. Personally I call them all Elmos.
no but if my higher ups can get away with having gauges chances are I'm working at mcdonalds or something
Well, like I said, I work at a pretty nice deli in a very upbeat and modern part of town. A few of my colleagues at the Starbucks I used to work at had them too, but they were only about 2-0g. Not really big enough to attract all that much attention. They were completely normal people, and it really complimented their individual personalities and music tastes. They always got along really well with customers. Plus, they were a lot of fun to hang out with outside of work.

COOL story

And if my aviator glasses would add to that misconception.
Heck yes
I thought hipsters were Apple fans :v: And Justin Bieber Fans
Apple fans are just misinformed and Bieber fans are prepubescent girls.
I hope that's not your reason for hating them :v:
I don't hate hipsters (unless they're super pretentious) or gauges haha, i sort of want gauges to be honest but i don't think they would suit me.
I still wanna know why wearing vans and a t-shirt with a band I like on it makes me a hipster. And if my aviator glasses would add to that misconception.
They don't, thats the thing, but to people who don't actually know what a hipster is wearing vans and band shirts makes you one. The word is incredibly overused, if someone sees someone in different looking clothes or listening to underground music they're automatically classed as a hipster.
Nobody I know has caught onto it.
