Those serama chickens are often kept as pets because they are bloody expensive for poultry.
We have two chickens at the moment. We used to have another one, though, before we got these two. His name was Rusty. Actually, there's an interesting story about how we got him. You see, me and my little sister were playing in the driveway at our house (We were trying to confuse drivers in the neighborhood. By wearing a Darth Vader helmet, dancing around, and fighting each other with sticks.). Then, these old people slow down by our house. The old lady who was driving begins saying "Chicken! Chicken!". We thought she was crazy at first. Then we saw a chicken. They had driven away by then. I warned my sister not to go near it, because it may not be a well behaved chicken (My sixth grade English teacher had, a few days earlier, instilled a fear of banty hens into me, which is another story for another time, and I had no clue how to identify the kind of chicken/bird it was). So I went and got my mom. The chicken was in our backyard at that point. We gave him some bread, and ended up taking him in. He died last year. We always promised we would get him a hen, but we never did. We wanted to, though.
Chickens! where are you? You belong in this thread!
My boyfriend's parents used to have chickens, I think a fox got them :( We've said we'd like to own chickens one day, they seem interesting and useful too. I remember going on an adventure trip with school when I was 10, one of the boys from my class ran into a group of chickens and shouted at the cockerel "These are my chicks now!" and it decided to chase him, he ran screaming, wouldn't go anywhere near the chickens for the whole weekend. I bet he's still terrified now, I wonder if he remembers why xD
man i love cock
I have 7 chickens myself, two are 4 years old, one is 3 years old and the remainder are all a year old. If you want free eggs, 7 chickens is more than you'll ever need, they'll pretty much feed themselves if you let them free range but it's still a good idea to provide feed for them. I'm hoping to get an Emu egg or two later this month for incubating.
Home grown. This is from a few months ago. Sadly, the chick disappeared (got eaten probably), but was soon replaced by another chick. I should take pictures of my chickens and coop.

OP, do you love cocks?
Chickens are often overlooked but they make great pets, and you get free eggs
I've had a few in the past, honestly, geese are more badass. We had an Embden goose that we raised since it was a gosling. We trained it like a dog. Call it's name and it would run over and jump on your lap. he was a mean mother fucker too. he guarded the chickens and ducks that we had and chased off the raccoons and foxes we had here. My brother shot him though, i miss that little fuck.

My brother shot the goose(i named him Beavis[i was 10 at the time]) with an air rifle because he's a natural idiot.
