What's that about? Are they suddenly going to say "Alright Mate, click 'ere to find 'a link to 'a porno." for Australians, but say "Pip Pip Cheerio, Click here for some naked girls." for British people, and say "Click here for porn." for Americans? I'm confused.
aren't you a little young to be searching for such things chad
That page taught me that British English and American English are basically the exact same.
Except that that page is completely wrong
Well they did fuck it up in some respect - consider the term laser. It's an abbreviation, for Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation. So America goes ahead and calls it lazer. :sigh:
No we don't. I, along with everyone else I know, spell it laser.
The only reason HURR AMERIKA FUKED TEH LANGUAGE is because a guy we all know, Webster, made the first dictionary (as far as I know, please correct if I'm wrong) and this was shortly after we became independent, he wanted to distance us from the British so he added a few new words and changed words like colour to just color. So any word with a U he changed. Not sure why the U in words but he did.
In 1604 Robert Cawdrey created the first English language dictionary. Not being a dick, just correcting you, as you said.
Vocabulary use, pronounciation and the like?

The Russian alphabet looks like people took a hammer to the English letters and just decided to go with it
different things, we have highways, they have autobahns.
The difference is that Australian chicks sound waaaay sexier.
This is the truth!
I'm an American, I grew up with American English (and in Florida, with a decidedly flat American accent), so I'm going to use American phrases out of habit. Not like I want to change that, but unlearning those habits would probably take quite some time.
On the other hand, I take pride in my ability to emulate accents. My British accent is a mix of various regions, though; it'd sound retarded to any Brit, but to all of my own friends I apparently sound awesome. :D

That's Germany.
As far as accents go I was told by one friend (from the UK) that to him, I don't sound like I have much of an accent. He said I didn't really sound "American" to him, that I sounded rather "Generic", that had I not told him where I was from before, he wouldn't have been able to place it.
Is it just me or have I never seen more than one option for English on most sites?
Specially porn sites. My question would be, why is there an option for all of those, but not Canadian English?
Colourful compared to colorful....
I have my computer set to American damn it.
if i could choose to be from any other country than Denmark! i'd be either norweigan or Australian
The Australian media is the only place I've seen 'Gaol'..besides Ye Olde Melbourne Gaol.
I laughed at the OP's (strongly stereotyped) examples.
Really the only difference is very minor spelling differences.
Armor / Armour | Jail / Gaol | Pedophile / Paedophile | Realise / Realize | Color / Colour | Center / Centre | Liter / Litre | Aluminum / Aluminium, etc.
Gaol? I can understand the others, but that's just spelt wrong.
Gaol? I can understand the others, but that's just spelt wrong.
No it isn't. It's an alternative spelling, not wrong.
How would ao be pronounced as Ay.
How would ao be pronounced as Ay.
Why would it have to be? Gaol sounds like jail to me, when pronounced, albeit without the i sound.

Gaol? What the fuck?
Looks like it's pronounced 'Goal' or 'Gowl' instead of 'Jayl'.
Obviously Australia speaks correctly and everyone else is wrong, there is no point arguing it's 100% fact.. everybody knows it.. plus we have vegemite and we love it.
