Are current cartoons on television REALLY all that bad?
Then, of course, there are the skits that are based entirely on internet memes and gags. The worst one in that category would have to be ThunderLOLcats. It was... painful. And the fact that they got Will Friedle (who voices Lion-O in the current Thundercats series) made it all worse.
I think people are missing the point of that video. It was supposed to be a shot at overused internet memes. I don't think they were trying to be edgy or popular with random pop culture references (we already have Family Guy for that, thanks), they were trying to bring light to the fact that memes are just obnoxious when they get forced or used way too much.
My little pony Friend ship is magic :DD Best cartoon EVER!

Please don't try to go down THAT alley again. We already had a pretty long debate about it (which IMO mlp lost), and please try to give some why on a topic that disputed.
I think nostalgia shadows the mind of some people.
I prefer the old Tom and Jerry and Looney tunes classics over whats today, but I don't think today's cartoons are bad. The kids watching the shows of today will reminise of the cartoons today as you do with the older CN ones.
I sort of miss the fluidity of most cartoons now, it became old seeing motion tweened ones.

"Let's stop talking about it, but first I'm going to say something else to incite more conflict"
We ended the argument without a proper conclusion in the interest of keeping the thread on track, there were no winners or losers on either side. When you see a post like that, rate disagree (dumb if troll) and move on. For fuck's sake, if you're looking to avoid another derail that is absolutely the WRONG way to do it.
I believe nostalgia makes people like older cartoons better. Like how everyone says Deus Ex (the first one, mind you) is the best game ever, yet when they go back to replay it they realize its flaws.

Calm down man. See this is why bronies always get into fights: they overreact to everything. But alright fine there was no definite winner of the argument.

Yeah, whatever then.

People don't hate MLP, they hate the rabid fans that blindly defend it at every opportunity. The conversation wasn't about how bad/good MLP is, it was about the quality of it. The subject was completely on the topic of the quality of childrens cartoons. Just because you like something doesn't mean it's perfect in every single way.

Nostalgia does crazy things to people. The same thing happens in every Elder Scrolls thread, where as soon as someone mentions Morrowind half the thread dons their nostalgia goggles and starts spitting out random crap about how Morrowind is the best game ever.

I understand, it just seems to me that he's jumping to blindly insult the show at every opportunity just as much as I'm jumping to defend it.
Just look at his first post in the thread:

He didn't even explain his reasoning until confronted, less an attempt at debate and more a stupid jab.

Didn't feel it needed much explanation. Still I'll admit it was more than a little childish of me. [sp]but in a way childishness is the whole point of this thread[/sp]

A debate can't happen unless both parties have their opinions out in the open. Just like you said, he eventually backed up his opinion. And after he and 1-2 other people started countering all of your arguments, you eventually backed out of the debate and tried to "fix" the thread. It sounds like the anti-pony party DID, in fact, win the debate. And he didn't really need to explain it much, seeing as the general opinion of the community is that MLP is shit.

FP would be nothing without childishness, it's who we are :v:
I admit I overreacted, I just love the show too damn much. Sorry about that.

Yes I was just about to say that, I considered it a loss for the bronies since he was the one who stopped countering us directly and instead changed the subject to a show we could agree on.

I didn't want to shit up the thread by typing out longwinded responses, the only possible result of that would be a thread full of nothing but MLP (which I'm sure none of you want). I could've just as easily responded in detail, but seeing as this is a general television discussion thread, I thought it would be in the thread's best interest to cut it off with the intention of leaving it neutral.
It would be great to have a separate debate thread for MLP, but the last time one was opened it got shot down by mods within an hour. FP just isn't a very good environment for this I suppose.
In my experience, facepunch is not a good place for debating anything. There will, of course, be people with opposing opinions, but bandwagons and personal attacks generally take pride of place over actual points in a real debate*.
*by real debate I mean a discussion with several points of veiw, not one where everyone reaffirms each other's opinions.
Its really a shame that there are no shows on now that can match any of the Tartakovsky series, the orginal Batman animated series, Batman Beyond, Justice League, and JLU to name a few of the older cartoons.
CN is dead in the water. With the exception of Regular Show and Adventure Time, I would sooner watch MLP all day than watch that channel before Adult Swim starts.

You're just sidestepping the facts so I'll repeat what he said. Just accept it, it's not shameful or anything.

I fail you see why you guys are just unable to accept that it's not as good as you think it is.
Can't we just move on, if people like it, let them. Don't make them "accept" that it's not as good as they think.
You're just sidestepping the facts so I'll repeat what he said. Just accept it, it's not shameful or anything.
On that basis, yeah, you guys won the debate. I really don't give a shit who "won" or who didn't, the debate ending with the last word going to a specific side doesn't necessarily mean that their arguments/opinions/etc are any more correct. I thought that was how debates worked (pretty sure it is), and I would've assumed that you thought the same if you didn't add this to the end:
I fail you see why you guys are just unable to accept that it's not as good as you think it is.
You're probably right (fuck it, you're right), it's not as good as we think it is from an analytical point of view, but anything seems better than it really is when you're looking at from a fan's perspective. Now that that's out of the way, I don't see how you don't understand why we tend to argue when you make statements like that, being that confrontational about something that people hold dear (for whatever reasons) is going to get you negative reactions. You may not understand it, but as long as you don't you're not qualified to state something like that as if it's a fact. Hell, not even those of us who DO understand it are qualified to make statements like that. To put it bluntly, that's a pretty douche thing to say.
So, how about the new style of animation that's being used in cartoons these days? I really noticed it in the difference in quality between seasons 1 and 2 of Johnny Test. The animations were a lot less smooth.

Although getting the last word definitely doesn't always mean you've won, in this case our last words were some valid points that got totally ignored so yeah you running away does mean we won.
Although getting the last word definitely doesn't always mean you've won, in this case our last words were some valid points that got totally ignored so yeah you running away does mean we won.
Perhaps I should have answered your points and then called it off then. Like I said, they were ignored for the sake of the thread remaining on topic (look how that fucking turned out), not because I couldn't come up with answers.
If it makes you feel better to think of this as a victory for whatever reason then go ahead, as far as I'm concerned it was nothing significant.

If you have answers say them, better we argue about the quality of a cartoon than who won the last argument.
That reminds me of the whole "nostalgia makes things better" situation. I'm sure that Bakugan, Duel Masters etc are no different cartoons than stuff like Pokemon or Yu-Gi-Oh! but we instantly think it's a terrible show and support the ones we used to watch. They're really the same thing, just a show to support a toy market.
But Yu-Gi-Oh! was a terrible show.
Old Spongebob is fucking fantastic, new Spongebob is pretty meh. I hate most of the new cartoons but I think that Adventure Time is really great.
If you have answers say them, better we argue about the quality of a cartoon than who won the last argument.
Honestly I'd rather just leave it as is for the sake of not COMPLETELY ruining this thread, but if you really want to hear responses we could find some other way to communicate them (later though, I need to study for now).
This shit will never end inside or outside of this thread, though, so is it really worth continuing an argument of potentially unlimited length?
Are you guys really arguing about who won? You're not going to be special.
Are you guys really arguing about who won? You're not going to be special.
In an internet argument, there are no winners. Only losers and observers.
