Are current cartoons on television REALLY all that bad?

It seemed like a good show back in the day, but looking back it was terrible. The whole thing was a scam to sell trading cards anyways.

It always sucked to those of us who didn't buy into it.
One good argument I can bring up for this thread is Asterix & Obelix, a series that I grew up with.
It has suffered from the current generation cartoon degeneration.
As before the series was amusing, it had atmosphere and writing that could keep older viewers interested.
Now I saw a bit of Asterix and the Vikings and for a week ago and my gawd it is terrible.
Where the older animations of A&O had some references to our time, this new crap had way too many and it was all up your face about them. And don't get me started about the forced pop-song scenes.
Remember how the older A&O had a really low amount of spontaneous singing (one of my big reasons to like A&O) and most of those song were just Trubadurix singing and getting his ass kicked.
My mother remarked that it's a lot worse than before and that and the animation lacked the charm the older A&O had.

I have to say that
Flapjack
Chowder
Adventure time
Real show
Frienship is Magic
Are all good as they also appeal to older audiences and in fact most of the writers and team behind the shows made great ones like Courage, Bravo or Spongebob's early seasons. Heck there is so many crap past the radar that many will get the joke or the reference while kids won't (on the account of being too young)
If you ask me, I don't think cartoons got worse. There were pretty awful cartoons back then that a lot of us have completely forgotten about (Toxic Crusaders? Biker Mice from Mars?). I think the difference today is the much more massive selection of channels and thus, more to choose from, meaning the volume of the crap shows have risen. I also really do believe that a lot of us are just plain nostalgia blinded. It's pretty much proven that growing up with something as a kid will almost always have you favoring it. Even a kid growing up in a 3rd world country with an AK-47 will likely favor their ways over ours here in America. Indoctrination, simple as that.
I don't watch TV anymore, I had it disconnected years ago to save cash, but I'm not opposed to the idea that there are probably some really good new cartoons out there. I admit even I like the ponies myself.

The problem is that there's more crap shows today than there were then. I don't think we're talking about T.V. in general, just CN/Nickelodeon, and possibly Disney. They used to bury the terrible shows under the good ones, but nowadays they just show the terrible ones right beside the good ones and treat them equally.
I'm not a fan of My Little Pony but I must admit that I really like the style of animation. It's a lot like the animation in Foster's, vector-based and tween/model based but still really smooth and nicely done.
I cringe every time MLP is mentioned, thanks to the internet. I mean ffs, liking a little girl's show is one thing, flooding the internet with fetid, useless crap about it is another.
I would definitely say Spongebob is not as good as it used to be. It really is still enjoyable to watch and I am 18 years old. The only reason I'd watch it now is because it reminds me of watching it when I was little. 1999-2003 were the best episodes of Spongebob. 90% of the shows on "Nick" now suck. Hell they're barely even calling it "Nickelodeon" anymore. It's saddening. I miss legends of the hidden temple and Doug and stuff.

Stephen Hillenburg left when the movie was released (2004) if you didn't already know, it's the perfect explanation as why SpongeBob dropped in quality.
Am I the only one who doesn't think adventure time is funny at all?
I mean, why is this funny? I don't understand it.

"Haha, it pee's from it's armpits"
The levels of immaturity are just too much for me to find it funny. I'm sorry but fart jokes and saying "fluff" instead of fuck just doesn't make for good humor in my opinion.

What ever happened to actually making jokes?

I don't know if I'd call it smooth but it makes sense the two shows would look similar. They were done by the same person.

Flooding the internet and the rest of the world.

Just what do you think the internet is?
I stopped watching cartoons just because all the cartoons were shit, unfunny,or just stupid.
what they boardcast here is basicly a brainwash for kids.
I stand to disagree, some of the comedies that air on CBBC ("Sorry I've Got No Head" is so monty python..) are better than many other shows they've ever aired.

You mean like every show based around a series of collectibles ever?
Have any of you watched Bob's Burgers? It's a really great show. I had to sit through The Cleveland Show on Fox just to watch it and I believe I lost most of my brain cells from it's exposure.
The Cleveland Show,Family Guy and American dad promote obesity, sexism, racism and nationalism while showing domestic violence and unfaithful relationships.
I absolutely despise these shows.

Fun fact:
It was cancelled due to Cartoon Network producers shifting away from coop's "It's good to be fat/what you are comfortable with" attitude.
The context of the show will never die, but the content will. Unless there's a progressive usage of the context such as twilight.
I watched an episode of animaniacs the other day for nostalgia, and I laughed out loud. There were some really funny things I didn't catch as a kid, only know as I've grown up more I find them funny.
That's what I really miss in the cartoons, those cleverly hidden jokes for older people. Animaniacs is a prime example. Tbh, they just had less of the cheap humor that flourishes in todays seemingly lazier flash animated cartoons.
I mean, there were bad cartoons and good cartoons back then too, I just think that the cartoons were way more clever. Maybe it's just the nostalgia, but I'm not entertained by todays cartoons at all.
They seem to be popular among kids though, I guess they must be good on some level anyway.

They don't promote it, they make fun of it. Key difference. I don't like them because they do really shitty jokes with hardly any supporting storyline, but do not mistake them for promoting those things.
I think somewhere along the line, network execs realised kids are dumb and appreciate even the lowest forms of humor. They therefore hired a bunch of people who didn't like making cartoons as much as making money, and a lot of the sheer effort put into old cartoons disappeared. Most these days are made with flash, and comprised of "tweens" which means the computer aniamtes for you, in a sense. Old cartoons were handdrawn, which makes it much more fluid and lifelike. Same thing with storylines, they are much more effortless and cookiecutter.

Source?
Cartoons nowadays are retarded as fuck.
Cartoons nowadays are retarded as fuck.
Yup, now it's all about money and sell sell sell. Nobody is interested in entertaining anymore. So they make the shows dumb as possible and merchandise the heck out of it.

What ever happened to actually making jokes?
in all fairness, that episode was SHIT,there is some level of adult humor in AT.
Instead of cartoons, it could have been sitcoms. They're all, ALL shit today, though not the old ones who are still on air for some reason.

Wheel of morality turn turn turn, tell us the lesson we should learn.... Kids can understand intricate humor.

adventure time is the best show ever to be on cartoon network imo
They are still decent, just compared to the older cartoons like in the golden days of Cartoon Network like Ed, Edd n' Eddy, Johnny Bravo and many other names compared to the Cartoon Network today ("CN") there is just not a chance. I'm pretty sure the same can be said about Nickelodeon as well.
And how much of that is objective truth and nostalgia glasses.
