Thinking about it, it's mostly nostalgia that makes us like some of the old cartoons. I rewatched some stuff on Boomerang, and laughed at things mostly because I remember laughing about it as a kid. For the most part, the humor was just as immature and directed at kids of a young age group. Sure, there were some hidden adult jokes, but there are just as many of them today, but not in as many shows.

Cartoons haven't been any good since Ben & Jerry and Samurai Jack (I still remember the very day Jack was cancelled... *sniff*)
Am I the only one who doesn't think adventure time is funny at all? I mean, why is this funny? I don't understand it. "Haha, it pee's from it's armpits" The levels of immaturity are just too much for me to find it funny. I'm sorry but fart jokes and saying "fluff" instead of fuck just doesn't make for good humor in my opinion. [editline]9th December 2011[/editline] What ever happened to actually making jokes?
You are pretty much using the worst episode to describe it. I first thought it was bad too until I eventually started watching it. It turned out the not be "lol so randum XD" and I say some pretty mature humor (like iceking being a reference to the fanbase). Thats my opinion at least.
Cartoon Networks old shows were definatly alot better. Not sure about other channels though as i didn't watch much of things like Nickelodeon. I think quite a few of the shows i used to watch were Anime. (Yu-Gi-Oh, Pokemon, Digimon, etc)
I am quite certain this alone proves that cartoons today have degraded. I dunno if this can be considered a cartoon or not, but its close enough.
Does anime really count as a cartoon?
Yes. Yes it does.
Same here, I also liked the MegamanEXE anime but that was a little more recent. Does anime really count as a cartoon?
I suppose not. It would count as Anime, which is different really.
I suppose not. It would count as Anime, which is different really.
I always thought it did based on the loose definition that it was animated drawing.
I suppose not. It would count as Anime, which is different really.
Saying anime isn't a cartoon is like saying Dora the Explorer isn't a show for 7-year-olds.
I remember older cartoons like mario, dexters lab, ren and stimpy, powerpuff girls, rugrats, angry beavers, etc. I watched them pretty often. It was only later that things like pokémon, digimon, dbz and such captured my attention. Later I even went and watched Yu-Gi-Oh! and Code Lyoko. It was a mix mash, being born in 1990 I have the fortune to grow up as there was great shift in childrens television, ranging from nickelodeon, to cartoon network and the local tv channels.
Watched a new episode of Spongebob today, it made me cringe.
http://www.cracked.com/article_19470_6-classic-kids-shows-slapped-together-from-recycled-material.html In general, no. Kids shows today aren't worse than the ones before, they aren't better, they aren't worse. It seriously is called Nostalgia, and you have it hard.
Cartoons put fucked up ideas in the heads of kids. The shit that it tries to teach is horrible. But most kids are too stupid to catch those hidden messages, so it all balances out.
Cartoons put fucked up ideas in the heads of kids. The shit that it tries to teach is horrible. But most kids are too stupid to catch those hidden messages, so it all balances out.
Cartoon characters from all generations do shit which we may call morally reprehensible, that's just how it's been. Truth be told the ones that try to teach us 'values' and 'being good' are usually absolutely horrible cartoons.
I used to watch a lot of Cartoons when I was a kid, my favorites being: -Edd, Ed, 'n' Eddy -Dexters Lab -Courage The Cowardly Dog -Batman: The Animated Series -Batman: Beyond -Samurai Jack -Star Wars: Clone Wars (Not the new one with the Mary Sue Apprentice) When these shows were taken off Cartoon Network and were being replaced by Adventure Time, Chowder, Flapjack, and the Regular Show I pretty much abandoned Cartoon Network. I later abandoned Nickelodeon when they started having more Live-Action Shows then Cartoons. Also I tried watching some of the shows by Seth McFarlene but I didn't find them to be entertaining at all (The only thing significant I liked was Stewie from Family Guy). I pretty much listened to a recommendation from my brother about trying some of the Sci-Fi anime shows he had watched that I might like FLCL and Ghost in the shell: Stand Alone Complex. I found them to be entertaining and they actually had a story rather than random bullshit you find on the Cartoons now. So basically The older Cartoons were awesome! But if you actually want to watch something decent don't watch any of the newer cartoons, try watching a bit of anime instead and see if you like it.
Ed, Edd and Eddy I grew up with.
Teen titans is what i use to watch, And now that i think about it its probably the reason i like anime style art so much.

I don't know, I don't watch cartoons anymore. Anyway I'm pretty sure the kids today don't even see the difference in the quality of the old-school and new-school cartoons, if they even give a shit.
There are some shitty shows and some good ones, just like there have always been some shitty shows and some good ones. But spongebob got fucking awful and that is a fact and is undeniable.
I find most modern cartoons quite stupid. I'm starting to believe it's because I got older
T.V is not worth watching after they cancelled Johnny Bravo.
Yes. the fucking end.
Nice post thank you for contributing.
My little pony friendship is magic
Adventure Time is awesome as fuck, I'd say it's on par with megas X.L.R and Samurai Jack imo but the rest of the new cartoons are pretty shit like The Amazing World Of Gumball and shit.
T.V is not worth watching after they cancelled Johnny Bravo.
They shouldn't have bumped this because this really is the best closing statement possible.
