Their placement may look out of place, but it's better having it up there instead of in the middle of the dashboard, which forces people to look down away from the road. This way less people rear end others while trying to do navigation. As strange as it may seem this car was never designed with modification in mind. No modern passenger car is. Plus the Mazda 3 actually does have a HUD.
Eventually the HUD will be ingrained in the glass. It will tell you your speed, compass, directions, etc. I hope that they will implement something where if you hit your signal, a small screen appears on the glass as well so you dont have to take your eyes off the road.
Tomorrow I will be bringing home a 2003 Toyota MR-2 Spyder. I'm pretty happy, will post pics when it is in my possession.
Well, with my car nearly paid off, and my insurance going down (granted, by only about three dollars a month), I think it's about time for a second project car to mess with. There's two different Mazda Rx-7s in my area that have been for sale by owner (not listed on Craigslist or anything like that) for almost six months and they haven't moved. I'm really tempted to drive out to them and see what's going on with them and see if I can't get a dirt cheap one and do a v8 swap. That being said, I'm also really tempted to grab a dirt cheap Ranger or S10 and do that build. What do you guys think would be more fun for a new guy at doing engine swaps?

Just got a new insurance quote, $89 a month for the same coverage versus $203. Time to rip the top half of the motor out and get back on the damn road!
RX-8s aren't a car that one can really live with for a long time, as cool as they are. The engines blow up after 80,000 miles. They guzzle gas like a V8 truck. RCR has a pretty good overview of them Now if you could find one with an engine swap to a V8 or whatever, that would be a great car. Keep the great chassis, ditch the engine on perpetual lifesupport.
They only blow if you don't take care of them. Why dose everyone keep spreading wrong information.

But apparently that's a very easy replacement.

A truck is a lot easier to do work on because of the height. Look at Steve and his issue with steering linkages and such. A truck gives you more room for all those things you didn't think of, like exhaust, steering rack, etc...
Good news! My Accord has air conditioning! I had a shop convert it to 134a for a bit under $300. Bad news! There is some dinging sound when I drive at residential speeds coming from the back right of the car. No clue what it is. Mildly infuriating news! I can't figure out why the tape deck is being so finicky. I am using an adapter that I know works well in my Lexus and in a regular stereo, but I think it has something to do with the way the car vibrates furiously all the time, and that shaking around the adapter/phone. Any idea for a fix? All I know is it is probably vibration related and the sound of the bumping coming from the speakers can be controlled by the volume, so I figure it is probably the tape deck jiggling around in the slot. I don't wanna do 3000+ miles and 8 weeks of commuting to and from work without my music. Scary news! I am driving to Denver on Sunday, and then staying there for a day or two and then driving to Wyoming. My family is doubting that the Accord will make it, but I don't think they understand how reliable a 1993 Accord driven by an elderly woman for 109k miles is.

I don't know if the problem was fixed for the RX8 or not
I wish craigslist would get rid of the option to hide your email. I found an almost pristine 280z for $3500 but they made their email hidden and forgot to put their phone number in the ad. ugh.
Aren't all RX-8's rotaries? I wanted to see Mazda release a Miata with a wankel but now I can see why they never did.
Yeah, that's why it's a RX.
Yay, ordered a replacement right mirror for my 2000 Sentra today. This marks the beginning of the restoration process ever since my sister ruined my car.
They only blow if you don't take care of them. Why dose everyone keep spreading wrong information.
Apparently nobody takes care of them, because every local ad (with info) has people selling them either immediately before or after the ~80k mileage range, and those over mention a non-running engine or a new replacement engine. Is it even possible to take care of apex seals, bar topping off the oil regularly and then outright replacing the seals when its time? It's a structural weakness fundamental to the engine's design. You also have to rev them to redline quite often if you don't the engine gets caked in carbon causing premature failure.
long post
Buy a new stereo, you won't regret it. Also unless it was seriously neglected it'll be fine. My 90 accord has almost 317k miles. :v:

There are very few moving parts. It's easier than replacing a piston.

I'm not sure how that works with emissions and catalytic converters though.
So I've heard people generally tend to hate KIAs. May I ask why? My friend has a KIA Optima 2011, looks reaaaal nice. What's the reason behind all the hate?
Looks are deceiving.

Driving to pick up another A body right now! Dont hurt me serj, its too good of a deal!!
Driving to pick up another A body right now! Dont hurt me serj, its too good of a deal!!
Aint gonna hurt you. I almost had one for free, but someone literally beat me to it by a manner of minutes... literally. It was a FREE 1975 Scamp. Even though it was 75, free is free, and 2 door at that. What are you picking up? And please don't let it be a completed someone else's project...

What's the reason behind all the hate?
Pre ~2007 KIA/Hyundai cars are for the most part bland econoboxes. The further back you go, the worse the engineering is as well. The new ones have bulletproof warranties, have some styling and have very competitive pricing. The biggest complaint I've seen about them is that they don't make anything that is particularly exciting to drive and that they have mediocre crash test scores.
I really want to upgrade from my 206, Got my heart set on a Mazda, but I don't know whether to get a Mx-5 or an RX-8? I hear the RX-8's are a bit of a beast, but come with a shitton of problems. It's just a shame Nissan 350z's are so expensive.
You won't run into too many problems assuming the person who owned it before you took decent care of it. (Which is a big assumption.) The mileage is pretty bad and they burn through oil at a fairly high rate, but you probably knew that, just check the oil whenever you stop for gas.
Like Hyundai, they're right between China and Japan not just geographically but in terms of build quality and safety.
Their reliability scores are better than most domestic cars and are fairing better than Nissan which has really fallen in the last few years. :v:
Kias are the definition of econobox dreariness.
Kias are the definition of econobox dreariness.
The K900 is better at being a lazy American barge than your Crown Vic. Smooth as butter, with the only downside being that the engine loves to rev a bit. Go drive a few, it will change your opinion forever
