Family member had a Kia Sorento for a few years and had nothing but issues out of the front end on it from the start. Between transmission problems, alignment problems, and sensors going bad constantly, it was pretty reliably in the shop about once every other month the entire time she had it. I've heard very few first-hand accounts of Kias for the better from the mid-to-late early millennium.

So finally got off my ass to make the ebrake strut for the left side of my car when I got the car it had half the rear passenger break no drum, 1 shoe , a couple springs and, the adjusting mechanism and the strut;driver side was completely bare. Liberated some 3/16 steel plate from the scrap bin at ork and its nearly there.
Kias are the definition of econobox dreariness.
Not anymore.
Wait, you're in Oglesby? I live in Streator, literally like 20 minutes south.
Lol nope, just passing through. I like that abandoned factory so I always try to take a pic of my car there if I'm driving something different. Speaking of the Buick... So I put it on air ride back in 2008. No big deal. Today I parked it and dropped it to the ground as usual, and when I got out there was a big cloud of smoke coming from the rear driver's wheel well. Smelled electrical. I was like "well.. my car's going to burn to the ground now, great." But it didn't. I got down and it turns out a factory harness that's underneath the car got crushed between the frame and a rear suspension arm, damaging the wires and making a poof cloud. I don't understand how it's been 7 years and that's never happened before, though. Either way, it means have more work to do.
Its a 1972 Duster, has a built slant 6 with headers, cam, and a clifford 4 barrel intake. Apparently it sounds pretty gnarly. The car itself needs floors, both quarters, a trunk lid, a buncha other parts, but it has fiberglass front fenders and the rockers arent too bad. For $400 I cant complain!! Im thinking something like corpse duster or crop duster
you picked up a 72 Duster that runs... for $400... Did you buy a lottery ticket as well? edit- Jesus fuck its red too. You better do this right. edit2 I'm actually really jealous
Look guys. I made a video with subtitles so all of you non-danish people can see what they're saying!
That was sweet!
So I've heard people generally tend to hate KIAs. May I ask why? My friend has a KIA Optima 2011, looks reaaaal nice. What's the reason behind all the hate?
Most of the hatred comes from the early kias, which were very ugly and unreliable as all hell. Now they've got 7 year warranties and look great like you said, but they still aren't quite as good as they look, imo. I've driven a Rio from this decade, and there's very little feedback through the steering wheel and pedals. It's really like a sensory deprivation tank on wheels.

Toyota is a worse offender with this than Kia, though Kia's do have awfully light and uninspiring steering rigs. Hell you don't get an ounce of road feel in any BMW anymore unless if the PS pump has leaked all of it's fluid out. You drive the biggest sensory deprivation tank from 2005, and drive a new average car, and the car that got flak back in the day for no feel suddenly has feel.
My Hyundai (KIA in disguise) has fairly good steering feel. Better than any other car I've gotten the chance to drive. Toyota really is the worst offender. They have no connection to the road, it feels like a boat wheel.
Subaru brake goodies arrived in the mail today from Germany [t]http://puu.sh/itNE5.jpg[/t] Here in Norway, one disk is 970 NOK. Two disks from ebay with shipping came to a total of 507 NOK
Toyota really is the worst offender. They have no connection to the road, it feels like a boat wheel.
Having driven toyotas almost all my life, this. Have you ever seen the Alphard? Its a 2 tonne landboat that literally drives like a fucking boat. I swear just one little thump on the steering wheel and it would turn full 700 degrees. I hate driving that car so much but my dad bought it with the intention of passing it down to me (ever since he turned into a Lexus fan). Well I guess a luxury 7 seater minivan landboat isn't so bad, its black and super tinted so I can pretend I'm a mafioso.
the worst thing about Toyota is the brake pedals. I can live with lifeless steering, sponge braking is a no go
The K900 is better at being a lazy American barge than your Crown Vic. Smooth as butter, with the only downside being that the engine loves to rev a bit. Go drive a few, it will change your opinion forever
No it's not because the K900 is in an entirely different class and is far too complicated. It competes with the 5 series and Mercedes whatever-class. I drove a Kia... something. I think it was a Rio maybe. I honestly can't remember. It was rented for a train convention in Milwaukee in 2013. Drove it out of the rental lot, got on the freeway for about 10 miles, turned around and begged them to give us anything else. Ended up wit ha Rav4 which is also a terrible car but nowhere near the level of deadly numbness the Kia was. Granted wasn't the new Rio which looks like an alright generic 'sporty' hatchback, so maybe the new one is better. To be fair, I do quite like the K900 in theory because I like all fullsize luxury sedans. Except for the S-class, that can sod right off.

Go drive a few, it will change your opinion forever
Lazy 420 horsepower Choose one Also, as trek said, its not even the same class. The main difference being price. Crown Vic is cheap, simple, and readily accessible to us poor middle class Americans. K900 is 50-60k new. If I was gonna spent that amount of money on a sedan, I could find something much classier, like a caddy.
Nah you can have a powerful lazy engine. That's not hard at all. It's all about how you tune it and more importantly the throttle response and transmission. I don't doubt that the engine can be lazy. However a supercomplicated 8-speed transmission with a million different sensors all over the car isn't very American. It's a very eurasian car and that's fine.
I was told by the mechanic who did my AC conversion that the car has a "slow oil leak". The car was topped off with 4.5qts on May 30th, and I checked today and it's at just barely above the fill line. And there are a series of 3 spots all over my driveway in various places from the oil stains. Is there anyway to fix this easily? He said it'll be worse at highway speeds and on Sunday I'm about to drive 2500 miles, so how much oil should I expect to go through? I already know to keep at least a quart or two (if not enough for a fill) in the car at all times. Also, I took my tape deck adapter and wrapped electric tape around the edges so hopefully it won't vibrate and fuck with the stereo too much. I also played with the tuning knobs and the speakers sound pretty acceptable now. I went to the local pick and pull to find another subaru tow hook. Only found one subaru and 60% of the cars were civics.

Check oil when you fill up your tank. You'll be fine, all you have to worry about is like old rubber hoses, tires, belts and the like. Nothing else is likely to go wrong really at all if it has 110k miles unless something is already terribly wrong. Your oil pan is probably leaking, extremely common on Hondas due to the ten 10mm bolts and 4-6 10mm nuts that hold on the oil pan at 9-11ft/lbs. I wouldn't ever assume that to eat that much oil though. It sounds more like the motor wasn't taken care of amazingly and should be treated properly with fresh oil often and driven hard to help everything reseat and burn out. Seafoam, fresh plugs and a marvels mystery oil treatment on the oil would probably help speed things up a little too first.

If it's smooth and you can apply consistent, yet enough force to get the wheel to turn without having to put your back into it, it's one thing versus being able to lock left and lock right with a single finger doing a single roll over, and the car still goes straight. I think that's the biggest complaint with Kias and Hyundais is you can do the latter some days, and a lot of people don't like that.
Just finished school, and all the industrial classes had a barbeque, so a lot of "car people" came, literally just a bunch of sticker covered 4 cyl vagons with straight pipes and so on who tried to park right next to the grill, and were gently told to fuck off back to the student parking. They floored it, and literally nothing happened. The noise was horrible but there was no acceleration whatsoever. Then some genius arrives on a mobility scooter :v: [T]https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/99847/Facepunch/20150618_115444.jpg[/T] This guy has a 200sx as a daily driver and works a lot on engines, and made trim exhausts for a chainsaw when asked to weld a pipe for grading.
