There are so many other cars on the road these days (driven by utter lobotomites) that having a real high performance car is not really safe for you or the car if you plan on stretching its legs often. I'd rather have something streetable, fun to look at and fun to drive that won't kill me if the rear end gets out from under me.
Now this I can agree with. Something feels so... right about the 80's. Everything- the music, the art, the cars, the movies. I wish I could have been a kid in the 80's.
I would've liked to be 16 in 1977. All the best cars available for cheap, cheap gas, fucking awesome music coming out every day, new technology all over the place (appearing suddenly and tangibly in a way that it doesn't anymore).
Is it worth it to get a car painted just before selling? I just have some odd scuffs and scrapes because of how assholes park in Seattle. Seriously after 4 days in seattle I had 5 scrapes and dings on my car.
From what I remember of the 80's (Voltron, Transformers, Troll Dolls(?), Beachboys, Alice Cooper, giant boom boxes, Radio Shack TRS80 ect) It was an awesome time, and every so often I throw the old Nostalgia louver shades on and reminisce.

Those two went for peanuts back then. [t]http://i.ytimg.com/vi/OjeGpYDRlKE/maxresdefault.jpg[/t] [t]http://blog.hemmings.com/wp-content/uploads//2012/09/1974Porsche911S_01_700.jpg[/t]
If I was a teen in the 70s, I would have so bought a Mercedes 280SL or a Porsche 911. Those two were peanuts back then.
My dad had a friend who bought a broken down Daytona Charger for $50 in 1981, fixed whatever was wrong with it, and totaled it a year later.
$50 well spent
$50 well spent
Waste of a Daytona though. They tried to chase it down recently but it's changed hands too many times since. Wasn't scrapped but they don't know if it was used as a parts car or ever fixed up.
So I'm riding in the back of my own car right now. God damn Ford knew what they were doing when they designed the back of this thing. I am soooooooooo comfortable.
That was a big selling point on me with my Charger. I could put my seat to my position as a fatass 6'3" American, get behind my driver seat, and still have leg room, head room, and the ride is super smooth even with five people and a bad axle in my car. I legitimately feel like I have more cabin space in my Charger than my Freestyle did with all three rows of seats raised. The back seats in it were tight and the middle row were eh.
The 80's were awful in almost every way and I'm glad I never had to endure them.
The 80's were awful in almost every way and I'm glad I never had to endure them.
Well, the 80's are glad they didn't have to deal with you either. :v: [sp]Just kidding brosef, all in good fun. But you did miss out.[/sp]

The amount of room is gangster as fuck
Bought my first car 94 white celica with a sunroof 3 grand i'm pretty happy ay it needs a bit of work done (nothing major by the looks) and a service no doubt but it runs fine and is in pretty good condition over all, i'll post pics soon
So you bought a 21 Year old car `? Are you mad
So you bought a 21 Year old car `? Are you mad
Are you lost? This is the auto enthusiast thread.
I love cars just as much as everyone else here, but buying a 21 year old rust bucket as a daily driver doesnt really make sense.
So you bought a 21 Year old car `? Are you mad
I could have gotten a 1980s porsche, outfitted for barbagallo raceway for 2800 but the timing on that deal was bad. I don't see the problem in buying an old car, i'm well aware they're bound to be problematic in some way or another [editline]24th June 2015[/editline]
I love cars just as much as everyone else here, but buying a 21 year old rust bucket as a daily driver doesnt really make sense.
it's really not as much of a 'rust bucket' as you think it is though, you're making it out to sound like I bought a thrashed corolla for 300 bucks (which I was half considering doing, but my mate that owns it funnily enough has said it's starting to break down now possibly fucked the engine), this celica is actually in pretty damn good condition compared to some of the newer model corollas we tried while exploring our options, Definitely not without it's problems, I expect it to be something i'm probably gonna have to put money and work into, that's part of the fun of it though
I love cars just as much as everyone else here, but buying a 21 year old rust bucket as a daily driver doesnt really make sense.
He never once implied it was a rust bucket. And because it's old, doesn't mean it's a rust bucket. I don't see the problem. My first car was a 1972 chevy truck, which i drove from 2009-2012. Didn't have a speck of rust. It was beaten as fuck, but no rust.
I'll post pics of the body and engine etc once I go pick it up, cause i'm still a learner I need a third driver with us to get it home but yeah, i'm sure you guys will pick up on and notice where some things need a bit of work, but from what we (well really more my father) could tell, it shouldn't be anything too major, he's a pretty confident mechanic so even if there are any unexpected/un-noticed problems it'll be good fun learning about those issues and how to deal with them as I go with things, still plenty of time til I get my provisional plates so anything that's a significant problem that needs to be fixed up by then, will be we bought a car now because it's my birthday basically, reckons it'll stop me from blowing my money away on un-necessary shit and motivate me more towards following through and getting the license, I more or less agree. + I have the added benefit of being able to practice in a manual now, where as we only have automatic cars otherwise, so win win really
I love cars just as much as everyone else here, but buying a 21 year old rust bucket as a daily driver doesnt really make sense.
You are not intelligent, are you?
Maybe its different over there but you dont really buy 15+ year old cars here in germany, unless you plan to de-rust it
Old cars are best cars. A friend of mine has a 1980's Corolla FX16 in his garage... he doesn't want it/ drive it anymore and it's just wishing for some love. He said he'd sell it, but not sure what price yet. I don't know what I'd do with it.. but man those cars are hot. 3k AUS or USD? [editline]23rd June 2015[/editline] I am completely late on this
Maybe its different over there but you dont really buy 15+ year old cars here in germany, unless you plan to de-rust it
What are you talking about. The best cars were made in the 80's and 90's. They smell and feel like the good old days. Newer cars have a tendency of making you feel disconnected from the road. Feels like there's a computer beteween you and the road (and there probably is). Car manufactorers will never be able to live up to their former self because of regulations. If you're a family person with kids that needs a comfortable daily driver, cars have never been better, but if you actually care about what you drive; you will realize that cars are never going to be as good as their older generations. I feel old for saying that :tinfoil:
Have you been brainwashed into thinking all preowned cars are heaps of junk or something?I really dont understand the logic that used=bad you having going there.By all means go out and buy a a brand new car and take that instant hit of depreciation as soon as it leaves the lot.
Have you been brainwashed into thinking all preowned cars are heaps of junk or something?I really dont understand the logic that used=bad you having going there.By all means go out and buy a a brand new car and take that instant hit of depreciation as soon as it leaves the lot.
Aye I'm in the new car market for the MPG's not for the $ retention. If I can get 10 years out of a new vehicle than I'm calling it worthwhile investment
I really dont see the merit in buying a brand new car Just for the fraction of improved MPGs over the span of 5 years you are looking at about 10% improvement using the Honda Civic as an example.
You gotta look at perspective. I'd be getting 70%+ improvement from my 14/17/15
Aint nothing wrong with old vehicles so long as they are well maintained and taken care of. A vehicle from the 90s with 300k km can be in better condition than a 5 year old vehicle with 100k km, and last much longer. Hell, look a serj, he and his wife DD 40 year old cars. My ram has 312k km on it and it runs and looks better than a lot of the new vehicles, and given proper maitenance and care it should last another 300k [editline]24th June 2015[/editline] [thumb]http://i1067.photobucket.com/albums/u423/Lawblind/C5575502-30F4-4A10-BAFE-7837BF1AB091_zpsztqabtdy.jpg[/thumb] Threw the trunk lid off the 73 onto the 72 [thumb]http://i1067.photobucket.com/albums/u423/Lawblind/63142ADB-B3D3-483D-820C-8F34C2E862DA_zpsryjfdjkf.jpg[/thumb] Got the dome light working!! Swapped over some interior parts along with the back seat, gonna throw the rear glass in and pretty well knock out all the interior parts. The driveshaft is hooked up too, gonna see if I can get it moving if I have the time.
You gotta look at perspective. I'd be getting 70%+ improvement from my 14/17/15
Then why not buy a 2014? If all you are after is MPGs.Unless you want a brand new car for the sake of it being a brand new car.
