It's so damn pretty.

Head gasket failure ?
My 1990 Civic has more rust under the dash on the bare metal dash supports than anywhere under the chassis short of the front core support area that is bottomed out from idiots parking on top of curbs. I have no idea what you're even talking about, really. Provided you don't live in a shitty salt, arctic winter land there's no reason your car should even be rusty. The worst part about having an old high mile daily is the endless amount of maintenance which will most certainly need to be addressed but that's no different from a decent high mile 5 year old car either except everything is cheaper and easy to work on yourself often. The lack of A/C in older cars also sucks. I'm pretty sure many australians have never actually seen snow, I highly doubt they even know what rust is.
I daily an 05 Silverado that I've put 300,000 miles on and other than topping off the oil every so often I haven't done any major maintenance in a long time. I fixed the a/c about 2 months ago and replaced the starter about a year ago but other than that it's in brilliant condition. fun fact about that truck it's got the same iridiums I put in at the 50k mark
I sold my truck to a buddy, the Odom broke, according to the records I had back in 2002 at 190k miles and other than a tune up and replacing the fucking transmission it was pretty damn reliable. The water pump went out like 6 months after I sold it to him but he got that replaced, did something wrong and thought he blew the headgasket, but he just had to replace the fan clutch I think. Runs great for an 88 with an estimated 300k+ miles :v:
God DAMN that mud fucked everything about my car up. The brakes were binding, all the tires were out of balance, my radiator was plugged, my shocks were fouled up, the body panels were filled with sediment, my air filter was ruined and EVERYTHING had the shit caked on it. It took three hours with a pressure washer to get it all off and get the brakes and rims cleaned out. The car was finally clean but I was a mess from crawling around in the mud. I'll take this chance to inspect my rear axle. Edited: and like clockwork I finally get a call from a guy who has a rolled Tracker I wanted to salvage the drivetrain and engine out of. After two years in his yard he sent it off for scrap LAST WEEK. Fffs.
Driving my grandfather's truck and the fuel gauge read empty no matter how much fuel was in the tank. This is the third truck in a row he's owned that developed that problem. How the fuck do you even accomplish that. :v: It's not even like it's some specific manufacturer's fault, they've been a Toyota Tacoma, a Chevrolet 1500, and a Nissan Frontier.
When that happens I just do a road trip with a spare jerry can and see what the trip meter reads when the engine finally dies. Then I get a vague idea where my tank level is by looking at how far I've driven.
I already have an idea of how many miles a tank will last me because I reset the trip odo every fillup.
I have finnaly gotten all the parts (four on order and otw atm) for a full A/C repair. This thing never came with functioning A/C as the compressor bearings were locked solid and the clutch coil was burned up. Likely because the evaporator had 3 holes in it and leaked constantly, so it prolly bled all it's pag oil out. So sometime during this week the last 4 parts will be here which are the evaporator, drier/receiver, expansion valve and an o-ring kit. Sooooooo close to having A/C.
nearly every car I've ever owned has developed fuel gauge problems. anything over 10 years old is guaranteed to have it
Thing is, none of his trucks are very old. I guess driving through fields and shit puts a lot more stress on it than normal driving.
I don't know how fuel gauges read fuel level but I'm assuming it's a floater that can get stuck to the bottom of the tank if it sits empty for a while.
Thing is, none of his trucks are very old. I guess driving through fields and shit puts a lot more stress on it than normal driving.
Probably just the wire to the tank sensor. Had a cutlass the guages would fluctuate 10-15 degrees in seconds all of them.
none of the gauges in my silverado work I took this pic a while back the gas gauge kinda works but it says you have twice as much gas as you do and the needle gets stuck at half a tank. speedo used to bounce back and forth so I got a cool pic saying I was doing 120 in reverse but I lost it years ago. [editline]24th June 2015[/editline] also that abs light is telling the truth, I couldn't fit bigger tires and still have abs so I just don't have abs
So I want to restore these rims, maybe make them a deeper bronze, whats a great bronzer? I know Plasti-dip sells a bronzer, but I'm not to sure how well it works.
Sorry, I like cars but I don't know much about them. How does the 7M make it more likely that the headgasket has blown, and what other issues arise from that? Also, I'm trying to figure out the kw on this car. Wikipedia says that the engine makes 199kw but the engine + turbo combo that came with the Turbo A produces 433kw?
It's a stock tuned up 7M, unless it's a stock survivor car many of the parts in it other than like the cams you're probably going to want to replace and rebuild it with higher quality parts so that it can actually handle the power and not suck like a stock 7M. Look up what a stock 7M with a turbo swap makes on mild boost, that's probably what it makes. Warped heads, warped blocks, ruined internals and anything you could imagine could ultimately result from a blown headgasket if it was treated poorly. 7M's love to eat headgaskets though.
holy fuck I finally got my internet working here we go so here's some close up pics in no particular order, not trying to make it look 'better than it is' so specifically looking for defects or whatever as i'm sure you'll understand i'm a complete car noob and concerned it's leaking a bit of oil but i'll have to get you guys to correct me if i'm wrong on that (no noticeable oil drip, just lots of oily grime in engine bay/underneath as you'll see in one of the pics) [t]https://scontent-hkg3-1.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-xta1/v/t1.0-9/11535920_1461407544172117_4952229890127279890_n.jpg?oh=2e9df6e5417751697f9f188257e0aee9&oe=562053C5[/t] [t]https://fbcdn-sphotos-a-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-xpa1/v/t1.0-9/63994_1461407737505431_4338222480286862805_n.jpg?oh=e1570d9b65cb0602f0b7c3f05474bb1d&oe=5632247D&__gda__=1441319423_135544ffe138d7652c47ac667b82db8e[/t] quite fond of that gear stick though obligatory fuck birds photo, swear to god ONE FUCKING DAY and this shit already happens an overview photo though, it's overall quite nice looking I must say, very solid feeling car to drive in, first car i've driven in that really feels like a 'real car' if that makes sense [t]https://scontent-hkg3-1.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-xfp1/v/t1.0-9/11010974_1461407897505415_6639253857091062950_n.jpg?oh=0b3f133789244506f9e70ba4b5e7c06f&oe=56347A40[/t] and naturally i'm also paranoid about it getting stolen as I live in a bit of a dodgy area, can't park it in the garage just yet because ours is full of shit that we can't really store anywhere else the joys of being a car owner right? but ye the 'rusting' in those pics is about as significant as it gets, everything's solid and nothing is corroded through tomorrow I need to replace one of the break light bulbs and give it a bit of a clean, so begins the TLC to get this little bastard top notch in maintenance also sorry for the portrait phone photography, it was dark out and I didn't want to spend a huge deal of time taking photos
I'd suggest taking the spoiler off and repairing that bit of rust.
none of the gauges in my silverado work I took this pic a while back the gas gauge kinda works but it says you have twice as much gas as you do and the needle gets stuck at half a tank. speedo used to bounce back and forth so I got a cool pic saying I was doing 120 in reverse but I lost it years ago.
common issue afaik, should be a tsb out on that.
yeah I know, there's a guy in Mobile who rebuilds them for $100 but I don't miss the gauges more than I'd miss $100
yeah I know, there's a guy in Mobile who rebuilds them for $100 but I don't miss the gauges more than I'd miss $100
Welp, you lost me. I'd like to only have my oil pressure and water temp and if a truck a trans temp. RPM,Speed, voltage, fuel is all kinda useless expect when you drive it like a appliace. AND SOME ONE HERE SAYED THE 700R4 WAS A JUNKY NO SHIFTING SLOW TRANSMISSION Come ride in my truck with a built 700 + corvette servo. Let me make you take those words out of your mouth. [editline]25th June 2015[/editline]
Redneck chariot or not, 3rd gens get me rock hard. I fucking love them. I wish Chevy didnt go full retard on trans/engine options. If they had a proper 350/5spd option then they'd be worth sooooo much more. Instead Chevy paired the manual trans with the garbage 305, and the 350 with the 700r4. It's a good trans yeah but its a truck trans, and as such is full of slush and shitty shift points.
YOUUUU [editline]fjngf[/editline] Also 107 post's in 24hrs or so? What the fuck. Normly that many posts means a large argument with the end result of someone getting banned... Good job I guess.
[t]http://i.imgur.com/te4ayto.jpg[/t] I picked these up at the store to embrace the FPAA culture of cars we like I'm trying to decide if I should open them
There aren't any Hot Wheels hawkeye Imprezas, shameful
I like the look of this http://vancouver.craigslist.ca/van/cto/5056799620.html
it's not a towing rig or anything, it's just a daily that I can haul bikes with. I'd like to know oil pressure and water temp but it's not the end of the world if I don't.
On the topic of guages I recall a plymouth that if it had an automatic transmission as an option it would use the spot for the tac as the fuel guage meaning you had this massive fuel guage taking up half your instrument cluster
On the topic of guages I recall a plymouth that if it had an automatic transmission as an option it would use the spot for the tac as the fuel guage meaning you had this massive fuel guage taking up half your instrument cluster
Base model Ram 1500s had that up through the early '00s
yeah I know, there's a guy in Mobile who rebuilds them for $100 but I don't miss the gauges more than I'd miss $100
Correct, it's not a grounding issue, it's a stepper motor failure. Plus the dim spots are dead bulbs. This kit will repair it; http://www.ebay.com/itm/6-GM-GMC-stepper-motor-speedometer-gauge-repair-kit-instrument-cluster-10-bulbs-/310445275703?hash=item4847fafa37&vxp=mtr It's a matter of completely getting the cluster down to board level, unsoldering, then resoldering the new stuff in. Kind of a bitch, but not horrible, especially for someone who has experience doing stuff like quadcopters or something circuitboard soldering related! $100 isn't a bad price at all, that's what I charge when I do them at BBY.
Got an engine knock on the way to work boys. Shes in the shop getting diagnosed so the hype is not real new coilovers pads and rotors are useless for now.
question for the dodge guys. my diplomat will run fine when its cold or warm but when i start driving it a bunch/hard like running lots of errands or driving long distances it will cut out like its not getting fuel. sometimes despite my efforts it will die out and sometimes it wont start back up until it cools down left me stranded 25 minutes from home....no, the engine isn't overheating...
Sd paves the streets with salt :( It's still not as bad as mn though, I think they put some sort of nasty chemical shit in with the salt. It's all a conspiracy to ruin old cars and make people buy new ones.
that "nasty chemical" isnt all that nasty and all it does it prevent the ice/snow from bonding to the road surface; makes the salt stay on the roads.
