question for the dodge guys. my diplomat will run fine when its cold or warm but when i start driving it a bunch/hard like running lots of errands or driving long distances it will cut out like its not getting fuel. sometimes despite my efforts it will die out and sometimes it wont start back up until it cools down left me stranded 25 minutes from home....no, the engine isn't overheating...
What engine is in the diplomat? It could be vapor lock if your fuel lines are draped over something hot. Need to know which mopar igbitiin control you have too. Its not uncommon for them to just die or heat up and melt. Hence why most shift to h.e.I.
Did somebody say...old cars? [t]http://i.imgur.com/D568HSq.jpg[/t] [t]http://i.imgur.com/qEPSrXJ.jpg[/t] There's just something about driving a 50 year old car everywhere you go who's biggest safety feature is lights on the doors that turn on when they're open. God bless America.
durr diplomat, 318? Gimme a minute to think. Had the best luck ever today! Driving to pick up ny cousin and his trailer, truck dies 1 minute from his house, roll to a stop and turn my hazards on, the guy who was following me asks "cummins? Just died?" I tell him yeah and he pulls over Turns out that guy works at a dodge dealership and specializes in cummins, he ran the cummins drag racing advertisement program and has wrenched on them for 20+ years!! So i pop the hood and I swear he had it figured out and running in less than 10 minutes. Turned out to just be a corroded fuse. So after that me and my cousin drove a picked up a clean 180sx shell that hes gonna do a 1jz swap into [thumb]http://i1067.photobucket.com/albums/u423/Lawblind/3B72AB6D-539C-4686-8831-66D8F8C7FEFC_zpswl8gcvwt.jpg[/thumb] (Its high because its on jack stands to put the U joint in) When I finally got home I managed to get all the passenger side rear window together including gasket and whatnot. Mosquitos got too bad before i could finish but the cars coming along nice. I got some stuff I gotta put on and things im gonna paint so the car will look 10x cooler but no pics till its all done if and when I do restore this, its getting painted plum crazy purple
ive got a 1986 dodge diplomat with the 318 and the lean burn system
It's a stock tuned up 7M, unless it's a stock survivor car many of the parts in it other than like the cams you're probably going to want to replace and rebuild it with higher quality parts so that it can actually handle the power and not suck like a stock 7M. Look up what a stock 7M with a turbo swap makes on mild boost, that's probably what it makes. Warped heads, warped blocks, ruined internals and anything you could imagine could ultimately result from a blown headgasket if it was treated poorly. 7M's love to eat headgaskets though. I'd suggest taking the spoiler off and repairing that bit of rust. Looks like a grounding issue.
if I can I might do so but then there's also the issue of paint work; don't want to fuck up too much paint trying to fix up a small bit of rust like that but I know if I don't it's gonna annoy me seeing it there in the long run too. I want this car to be in like pristine condition by the time I can drive it my self, which is still a while a way, so plenty of time to sort all that out should I be concerned about the under-carriage looking like that by the way? never really got much of an answer in regard to that appears to be a bit of a leak happening with oil, there's the tiniest amount of drip that happened overnight, i'll have to look into that further i guess
Well its something to do with fuel. Serj makes a good point with the lines getting hot, but if its all stock then they should be out of the way. Carb or TBI? Have you changed the plugs recently? Google says 2 barrel. Could be running rich, when its hot it should run pretty good tho because you'll have better fuel atomization
Of course I'd get the last post in the page. Shit luck
carb, plugs have been changed recently
that "nasty chemical" isnt all that nasty and all it does it prevent the ice/snow from bonding to the road surface; makes the salt stay on the roads.
Wierd, it always seems like minnesota cars are mostly disintegrated by rust compared to their SD equivalents.
Here in nc we get snow once a year, and a lot of the time the dmv waits till the absolute last second. Matter of fact, they've cut it so close last year, the salt trucks got stuck at the depot :v:

break light replaced, feels good just jumping in and having a go at it ye it's simple work but still I don't get how something that simple people actually pay someone else to do to be fair... at first I managed to chuck the old globe back in thinking it was the new globe, then for some reason my car didn't want to start up, had a laugh about that one, but pretty sure I was just doing something wrong with the ignition, All good though, I left the car for a moment to go take a piss came back and it started up first go no issues.
if I can I might do so but then there's also the issue of paint work; don't want to fuck up too much paint trying to fix up a small bit of rust like that but I know if I don't it's gonna annoy me seeing it there in the long run too. You should be fine trying to find a basic can of paint in that color and masking off very carefully and closely around the area. Most of the rust will probably be under the spoiler which could be a different color and you'd never see. White is fairly forgiving too so whatever you do won't be insanely noticeable even if you messed up. I've never really done body work nor messed with rust so I'm sure there's far better people here than me to chime in. It definitely looks like you're leaking oil though as it's all over your underside, there's definitely no significant, obvious rust in those pictures though. Just looks like an average older higher mileage car.

There are a few places that can leak which can be beyond a bitch to fix like the rear main seal but that you usually just deal with until you go in to do a clutch. As long as you keep a good eye on your oil levels, you could really burn and leak as much as you could possibly put in really. Coolant and transmission fluid leaks are far worse, if you leak coolant you're almost guaranteed that whatever is leaking will probably burst open at some point soon. Transmission fluid is also pretty bad, manual transmissions don't have vast quantities of it and the bearings will become more like gravel than bearings inside of your transmission. Automatics BLEED red transmission fluid most commonly, most fluid is red colored and ATF is also quite flammable too. Automatics usually have crazy amount of fluid in them so a few drops won't affect it but it's a slippery slope before the inside of the magic box of wet clutches and fluid being pushed around starts to burn up. Most transmission fluid feels almost gritty between the fingers though, it's similar to oil but has detergents and fiction modifiers in it. Oh then there's grease, if you find globs of grease slung everywhere that came out of your CV axles. If the boots crack open and wear out the grease inside of them will contaminate and eventually sling out. After the grease is coming out it's only a matter of time before the joint fails entirely and you stop moving. Those are important to check when you're sliding around doing an inspection. Oil leaks usually aren't a critical issue though. Oil pans often leak, along with most gaskets and seals like the valve cover gasket or the distributor o-ring or camshaft seals. Some are easy to replace, some can be a pain. Oil leaks only get worse.

Would love to find a 911 in bits for real cheap and restore it. They might exist but you'd have to be in a Porsche club I guess. On the topic of old cars, there was a nice VH Valiant with the 265 and manual for 4k in the metro area, I think it's been sold already but man owning that would make you the envy of a few posters here :P As far as bad areas go, I think Midland is pretty nice compared to somewhere like Balga and Marangaroo. Even near the coast here there's still house breaking and car theft

Even near the coast here there's still house breaking and car theft
there's not many random break ins in my area surprisingly but i've heard of run throughs and robberies happening, but those are almost drug related incidents (dodgy cunts robbing dealers or debt related shit) but I don't really associate with that side of society anymore, for the most part it's actually pretty peaceful, only ever run into trouble once on the streets at night and it wasn't even that bad a situation just a bit of a silly thing that happened not sure about car break ins, we've had a car nicked from our house once before but ended up finding it just down the road, that would have been like 10-15 years ago, but seems most people's cars are usually fine and having cars actually stolen is pretty unheard of, the exception of the odd smashed window when someone leaves valuable shit in their car in a really obvious place is a pretty rare occurrence around here, but do hear about it happening a good few times a year Truly there's dickheads wherever you go from perth to the outskirts, it's actually scary thinking about how fucked up and violent some of the other outer suburbs are by comparison though [editline]25th June 2015[/editline] on that note though, in further response, I would love a porsche 911 myself if I could ever get my hands on one, always loved them but then when I finally got around to watching californication and realized it was Hank Moody's car of choice, I was pretty much sold on the idea. Pretty expensive though and in the current expected price range I could probably get a much nicer car, but at the same time.... it's a porsche 911 haha getting one as a project car on the cheap would be a good way to fulfill that dream over time no doubt, dunno if I could justify dropping upwards of 40k or more even depending on the year for something like that I'd definitely be leaning more towards a vintage muscle in that price range, realizing i'm probably shaping up to be the poster boy stereotypical car enthusiast just saying all that haha holy shit that porsche I was talking about earlier is actually back up on gumtree http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/parmelia/cars-vans-utes/1981-porsche-924-coupe/1082391956 guy wants to trade it for a 4wd now i'm surprised he still has it after the ad went down, maybe it's got some significant problems

Alright, I have somewhat of a dilemma on my hands. I turn sixteen this September and I want to be able to afford to insure a shitbox. I have 2 months of summer to find a way to earn money. Edit:Whats cheaper to insure, a 4g Civic or a 3g Accord?
Accord all day
Accord all day
Okay thanks, but whats the best way to find money to pay for the insurance?
A job [editline]25th June 2015[/editline] Or digging for change in sofas, but that one might take a while

I once worked yards n shit, walmart, small IT crap, Welder / Fabricator, now moving to be a general contractors assistant (aka go jobsite to jobsite making sure sub contractors are doing their shit) By far the easiest was being a cart pusher. Also, the 5" pipes for the hacker (with the v12 Rolls Royce) came back from Hall's Fabrication and Racing, and they look beautiful. He welded the flanges on for the custom 5" cutouts we had made, and then mounted 4 2" stainless tubes into each pipe that will attach to the lower chine exhaust for driving silently. Tomorrow I will rig up the control cables for them. Since the boat has a 1947 Cadillac dashboard in it, it came with heater and fan controls; we had the control levers chromed, and I made this plate to allow the levers to work the control cables for the cutouts. It looks and works very cool.
