Im not sure how this will go. I hope they just dont build a V8 Silvia (or any another JDM)
I'd love to see a v8 silvia vs general mayhem shootout but the logistics of getting both cars in the same country would be a nightmare
You know a car can fit in a shipping crate. And they don't do things very.... Legal. only few eps I know of them having insurance and registration on is the 55, crusher and rumble bee.
Also, the general mayhem is getting a hellcat powerplant supplied by dodge for free, soo it would probably rek the silvia lol.
So, I know NOTHING about cars or how they work, I don't even know how an oil change works, or how an engine works, or what people mean when they say their 5 litre engine is better than a 3.1 litre engine. The fuck does that mean? Anyways, where can someone who doesn't know jack shit about cars (not even basic things like good brands of cars, etc) Where can I learn how these things work, anyone recommend a good youtube series or something?
doing basic service is simple as fuck. Oil changes, for example. You get some ramps, drive car up ramps, remove drain plug (its very obvious, its one of the few bolts on the very bottom of the engine), let the oil drain for like 5 minutes to make sure all the nasty shit is out, then put the plug back in. Then you remove the filter. What it looks like depends on your car but they normally look like a soda can of different sizes. Then you dip your finger in the used oil and smear it on the new filters seal, all the way around, and you thread it on. Then you look in your user manual and pour in the proper viscosity and amount of oil. Sounds like a lot but its 30 minutes max. Even less if you have an older car or a 4x4 you can crawl under.

Like this: [t]http://i.imgur.com/vLXY2Zj.jpg[/t] If you dont have the "nut" there, you need a removal tool. There are many types of removal tools. They mostly look like this [t]http://i.imgur.com/wWYlQrG.jpg[/t] Many new engines have adapted the cartridge type oil filter. It makes the job even easier. This 1 for example(its from a Opel/Vauxhall Astra type J) has even a oil cooler attached to it: You just open it using the nut at the top and replace the "cartridge" which looks like this.
I'd love to see a v8 silvia vs general mayhem shootout but the logistics of getting both cars in the same country would be a nightmare
Or they could borrow that Australian dudes 700hp burnout car again and take the hood off. [editline]26th June 2015[/editline] Also guys, I'm pretty sure you're sposed to smear fresh oil on the seal, not used oil.

[editline]26th June 2015[/editline] Also guys, I'm pretty sure you're sposed to smear fresh oil on the seal, not used oil.
Its not the type of oil that matters. The oil smeared on the seal is actually used as a lubricant, so you dont damage the sealant when you screw it back on
The type of oil filter does not indicate if it's easy or hard to replace. It's all about the accessibility in the engine bay
if you're struggling to get an oil filter back on your engine you can just run without one, it isn't that crucial
Mine never shifts out of 4th unless I decrease speed to around 45mph, also my torque converter stays locked past 35mph. It was built using monster sunshells and that good stuff, all is new and heavy duty application. Inside a 4x4 case with a 2wd output shaft and tail dilly. Last time I checked my MPG I was getting 16. But 90% of my driving is highway at 75-90mph.... All I have to say to that is this thing has aero like a brick. And make sure that CV cable is adjusted right. If not you can fry your forward clutch packs really really quick. (What happened to me when I rebuilt it the first time around without overkill parts)
Mine only seems to have that one issue. Mine is a low geared diesel, usually I can put around in 4th at 45mph or so. I will rebuild mine eventually, haven't decided exactly what parts to use though. 16 sounds great for a gasser at those speeds. I had a tranmission guy adjust mine, but it might be too tight. It tends to bang when shifting under heavier throttle.
if you're struggling to get an oil filter back on your engine you can just run without one, it isn't that crucial
I'm sorry what.
If you've never struggled for a long time with an oil filter, try changing one on a new Ford C-Max. I did that at work yesterday and it was hell
Man changing the oil on my friends 94 olds bravada is hell. More specifically the filter. For some reason, they have it mounted all the way behind The drivers headlight, fucking sideways. so as soon as you start twisting it off, oil goes fucking EVERYWHERE. I don't get it, why couldn't it be block mounted like every other vehicle that uses that engine.
If you've never struggled for a long time with an oil filter, try changing one on a new Ford C-Max. I did that at work yesterday and it was hell
Are you sure ? My cars oil filter is located like right next to the exhaust manifold. Right infront of the radiator. If you want to loosen it up from the top, you will burn your hand :V
if you're struggling to get an oil filter back on your engine you can just run without one, it isn't that crucial
100% this. I dont know why people bother trying to get them back on. Its a waste of time, just the corporations trying to get $10 out of you every 3-5k miles. You can also just run without oil. All it does is make everything in the engine all slimy and gross. It runs so much cleaner without it.

I just use sand and blasting media, it's all the same shit. Air filters are a load of corporate bullshit too, I just leave a bottle of ether in my airbox.

On the C-Max the filter is located underneath the intake manifold so you either have to take it off or break your lower arm so you get another joint so you can actually get your hand to the filter and you need a very small 27mm tool that does not build upwards more than 2cm or it will hit the engine block.

There is absolutely no reason for that. Also reminds me of the time my friend and I replaced the spark plugs on his v6 Taurus. I wanted to die. It took us 3 hours to get the back 3 done.
Takes me back when I did Oil changes for money and had to do it quickly and so the oil would still be hot and the filter would he hotter than the sun. Those were the days.
My dad's 2015 BMW 550i broke down today for the fourth time since he bought it brand new. It only has 30,000 miles on it. Fuel injectors went bad.
550i, isnt it a bi-turbo ? Holy shit that car has a giantic engine lol
Twin turbo 4.4L V8. Not that big of a motor dimensionally but pretty powerful as far as sedans go. I think it's 560 hp.
Hey guys. I just noticed that our old AA section got removed, I was surprised and believe it is a bad thing but I'm not managing this board so, whatev. For those who remembers me, I was in Uni to become a mechanical engineer but I figured it was bullshit and went on to become a firefighter in this backward province that is Québec. I've had a massive year of sacrifice and hardship, found a new passion, spent a fuckton of time training and studying; the result was: my supra got neglected. So since I am now done with my internship and I have some time off, I began by re-doing the whole wiring harness (few things weren't working properly with my megasquirt 3 pro). Why am I doing this to myself: About 25-30h in, I'm done removing the useless wires/plugs/connectors and making new connection for everything else, I was relocating the igniter inside the cabin and adding a resistor pack to the injectors powers (more on that later). I then painted my fuel rail, intake manifold and lower intake manifold, black just for shit and giggles. At the same time I replaced my sard 800cc injectors (high impendance 1.6ms deadtime) for the usdm MkIV supra 550cc (low impendance, 0.6ms deadtime) because the sard were absolutly horrible, slow to open/close, terribly unlinear behavior, fuck them. and then I put everything back together with new heatshielding intake manifold gasket, a aeromotive fuel pressure regulator and an-6 braided fuel lines for feed and returns, tucked a few things, added a switch for my two-step antilag. Last stretch before starting it for the first time since the new harness and injectors, I'll get a video for yall guys. . With all that done, I shouldn't have sync loss at idle and at speed, timing should be rock solid and dead on what the MS3pro is processing, I shouldnt have any leaks past the map sensor (aiming for 24psi on 94oct). So basically, It should not be a fucking pig like it was. peace y'all
http://portland.craigslist.org/clk/ctd/5053470473.html god damn it if it had less miles and I had $2k to spare
http://forums.nwp4life.com/zerothread?id=37403&page=1 That build thread will make you want one even more, insanely clean car. :v:
Yep, I subbed to him when I ran into issues with some nasty nasty ass carpeting in a "customer"s car last year. Those articles are prime-time. Bahahaha $3k for a 20yr+ old car with 200k+, people will buy anything.
Find another 3rd Gen 4WS Prelude with zero rust in good shape. You won't. Oregon cars don't rust, we also don't beat our cars into the ground nearly as bad as Californians. It's a used car market in the PNW, we don't buy new cars nearly as much as used cars simply because our cars don't fall apart driving down the road. We also don't put nearly as many miles on cars as Californians or many other areas that commute long distances. [editline]26th June 2015[/editline]
Hey guys. A real turbo A? Dude I'm buying and paying for shipping, there are under 50 known and still running!
I found this interesting car as I went for a walk. According to the internet only 500 of these were ever made. It's got rego (don't know from when) but has no numberplates. Wish I could get something like this now but I have no money to buy it, and it's also a manual (after I get auto Red P's I can only drive auto for a year until I get Green P's.) I'm also not sure if this is trespassing, it was at the bottom of a driveway that's on a hill and I wanted to take a closer look.
Here's that Turbo A. Yum Yum.
