Have you tried running a jumper wire to the trim motor to see if you can make it change direction? It could be the motor and it's dying or dead, when heated up stops working. I don't usually mess with outboards, but it's a thought. 2
Yea we tested it independently and it works fine. Its only once the switch circuit gets involved that things go haywire

I swear this boat is cursed, but we keep fixing it since the Merc 150 BM is such a great outboard and is still worth the money

As far as outboards go, my knowledge is not so great, but electrically - there should be a main panel for the trim, and then a plug near the transom that allows the motor to attach so you can remove it easily if need be. Check to see that the thru hull or whatever kind of fitting on there is actually attached well, and then trace the wire back to the fuse panel and see if there's a breakage or some kind of fray going on in the wiring. Other than that, I am out of ideas. Sorry.
Question for everyone, I'm cleaning the water spots and dirt off the engine bay, and am wondering if I should display with filter, or without. This is not for daily driving, just for show. The hood is only going to be open about 16 inches so just the front of the engine is on display. The back will be shadowed out, so all you can see is the slant, valve cover, the fan, and the turbo. So, with filter, or without?
With:

Without:

My main concern is with the filter on there the turbo is not identifiable really, and since the hood has a decal that calls out 225 TURBO (thanks clutch) there's going to be someone who can't tell and wants me to open the hood so they can see. I want to keep it low. last year I had the hood high in the sky and it just didn't seem right.

Everyone else had it more like this:

No filter on the turbo, I'd almost say take the hood off but I know those hoods weigh like 100lbs lol. I'd probably keep it up, most people in the actual picture of your car have it all the way up. I'd assume that the people who have their hoods low just have a restoration back to stock. So there's really not a whole lot to see that is custom, aftermarket or different.
Boat experts-
Got this 89 Black Max Merc 150 with an intermittent trim. Its not the trim motor or switch. Basically we've run out of ideas. The only thing I can think left to do is start tracing wires from the throttle to the engine and checking for kinks.
Literally driving me crazy. It works awesome for 10 minutes, then it won't trim down at all for the next 30.
Is this what I'm left with? Chasing wires and grounds?
not very descriptive. If trim switch works on the motor but not the throttle then it's deffo a switch issue with the throttle.
Probably the most likely cause would be corroded contacts or wires. Dimetal is serious shit on boats.

This is pre-trim switch on motor era. I'm not sure how to be more descriptive. Motor works fine, switch is fine, but motor + switch and we got problems.
Will probably be easier to just replace the entire set of wires running from the throttles to the motor than it is to find the issue
Hung out with my Thai friend in his 940 tonight. It's got a 2.3 with 131hp and a 4speed auto. This is his third car in the last 3(?) months, no idea where he gets the money as he's still a student. It was fun as shit doing donuts though.

Are you using a solenoid to activate the trim motor? As far as my outboard knowledge goes, the trim motor is supposed to use 2 solenoid relays to activate the 2 directions (up and down vert or up and down tilt, I haven't got which is which yet).
If it has the 2 relay solenoids, what will sometimes happen is the contacts that activate the solenoid get corroded and need to be scrapped clean and if the corrosion has gone far enough up the threaded lead, will make its way inside and also cause these intermittent issues.
My roommates dad always has me do work on his boat despite not really know what I'm doing, but that has nothing to do with circuitry. If the whole thing is near an area that gets wet, it's only a matter of time before it corrodes. The very best solution is to slather all the contacts in dielectric grease of petroleum jelly to keep the moisture out.
Check the motor and see if it has solenoid relays, if so, check and make sure the solenoids are not the cause. Test them directly with a jump box or battery, use a momentary switch because if you don't you risk melting some of the threads on the "activate" contacts, and that makes for a real mess.
It may look like this:
[t]http://kirkmears.com/dnn4/Portals/0/Media/Images/1965%20Impala/niehoff%20ignition%20solenoid%20relay%20switch%20for%20ford.jpg[/t]
If it turns out it's not a solenoid relay, if it has them, them you sadly will have to chase wires. I personally detest this as all the wires on the roommie's dad's boat go under the deck.

So... that's what Beetle owners are calling it now.
Coworker had a run-in with a CopBlocker today... and he wasnt even doing anything work related, just eating dinner with his gf on break.

Is it electric trim? And has the trim on the throttle?
If so, go buy a new trim switch, wire it in. Test.
If you buy a new throttle stick with switch in it its going to be $$$.
If you just buy the switch (fuck I probably got one laying around that's made for a seedoo) then your only out 20-30$.
I would also test the Aux switch by the transom, it might have gotten water in it or the connections are making the main switch not work. This is were PHYSICALLY SEEING AND DIAGNOSING THE BOAT is KEY.
Its like saying "help I have oil leak help fix it?" and three pages later were recommending JACKS so they can see under the vehicle.
I can agree on that.
That info is only from what I've personally dealt with, anything more really and I'd have to see it for my self before giving any continued help, as I've no idea what kind of system it is or how it's put together.
What is a copblocker? I dont understand the story if someone would be able to reword it for me.

Its an electro-hydraulic integrated power tilt + trim unit. Looks like this except older and black.
Trim switch on throttle: Yes.
Trim switch on motor: Nope.
Switch has already been replaced.
No need to replace the throttle piece as its separate of the switch and works fine.
Tilt/Trim motor also already replaced.
All other electrical pieces of the boat work.
I'll take some photos tomorrow, but I dont think they're going to help as the problems are more than likely an electrical open/short

-snip- You sent a FUCKING THUMBNAIL FOR A PHOTO
I have afew high performance boats and jet skis and all of them have fully electric trims. And pretty much stay fully down all the time. Except on the jet skies of you want to do some 360s or somthing and you want it to dig in.
yo dawg, thats its a stock photo from a website; outside of my control
So in the search for a larger turbo, I have some things in my way...
So I got this new compressor and...

Could someone Swedish check a license plate for me?
Well this sucks, spent Friday night and all of Saturday running cables in my car for my Car PC and then I find out that the Unilink adapter I got to enable the "Bus In" audio inputs on my Sony DSX-S310BTX doesn't actually work. When it's plugged in to the Unilink port, I get the CD option that I should, though when selected, audio doesn't go through at all.
Has anyone used one of those dongles / adapters before? Do I have to enter the Konami code to get it to work? I'm going to be annoyed if I have to buy a different car stereo with a real Aux port, having one in the back of the stereo would have kept everything clean.

You could probably call transportstyrelsen directly.
I parked my bike on the street because I'm visiting my girlfriend for the weekend and yesterday morning somebody had pushed it over. Gas was flowing out of the tank vent.
Fuckin college assholes.
I don't even like to sit in other people's cars. I can't imagine being enough of a dweeb to think it'd be hilarious to push over someone's bike.
Terrible idea Y/N?

Hmm, I think I might know someone with parts for it, should you buy it. Looks like a fairly good deal though.
We believe we've found the problem with the damn boat. An intermittent relay. Only took a lot of fucking around with a multimeter and switching connections.
[t]http://i.imgur.com/LnWEjwr.jpg[/t]
(bottom one, sorry for potato quality)
We would fix it today, but the issue is that the bolts on the backside of it (opposite of what the camera shows). Not sure how to get to that yet as we may have to disassemble the carb housing and oil reservoir.
We're going to replace both parts of the relay (male+female) once we figure out how to get a wrench on the hidden bolts.
PS we broke the oil cap trying to remove the oil reservoir . Fuck 1988 plastics. Thats not a cheap cap to replace either.

They still make them, but they aren't nearly as common as they used to be.
http://www.explorervan.com/
The Lincoln Mk. LT is really common in my area, actually. You see them with 150s all the time. I don't know why you'd ever buy a luxury truck, but I guess some people just want to be rednecks but are too posh to actually do it right.
