Automotive Addicts Lounge V2- Why we are all broke:

Alright. Update on my 3.8 swap Daytona.
Progress has been very slow because of rain. I've pretty much got the Daytona ready for the engine drop.
Today I installed a new water pump, as I think it was the whole reason the people were selling the van for so cheap. They thought the AC clutch seized, not sure why they thought that since I can move it by hand. Turns out the water pump was eating itself because the snout was bent.
Any way... Rain. Lots and lots of rain. 45" or so, so far.

I wish it would stop. Please. Just for a few days.
I'm currently rebuilding the starter on the 3.8L so I can hopefully drive it to my friends garage to swap the engines.
Trying to fit small-series 6.5" speakers to over-sized 6.5" speaker holes you can use something like this;
http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_3322_Metra-82-7500.html
Jut like was posted before, just make sure it's the right sizing (oversized 6.5" or 6.75".. too many different names).
Or just take a jig saw and snip one out of some spare plastic if available, or wood if you don't have random plastic sheets laying about.
What fabric paint are you using? I wanna do the same thing to my rear seats
Camaros don't usually do much for me and I especially dislike pro street/pro touring builds, but this is beautiful and really handles great.

I'm gonna bet it's SEM
Soooo I picked up a go-kart today for the low price of free.99.

Dicked with the old motor that was on it, got the rings to finaly get unstuck and got a nice 185psi of compression. The carb was my only holdback, I could't get it to work because it was soooooo corroded.
I swapped in a harbor fright 212cc. It runs. Gonna try to ride it tomorrow because of some flats it has and the tires need tubes put in.

brb gonna go kill self because it has no breaks.

Also she has a torqe converter. This is gonna be fun I think I need to adjust the main flywheel thingy to make it more sensitive.
Man, people fucking fellate those predator engines, like its the 2nd coming of Jesus.
Are they any good? Being from harbor freight I'm gonna say no...

hi guys, been slowly learning about cars since i picked up a 93 honda accord 2 months ago (my first car). most of it's been theoretical knowledge, though.
my question is, what would be a good way to learn hands-on about how an engine works? i was thinking of disassembling the whole engine but not sure how to go about that.

I've got a buddy with a 212 go kart that's making around 20 horses, it's pretty rad

Dont fix what isn't broke. Google / Youtube is an excellent source to find out how an internal combustion engine works. Learning how to dissasemble one is another task, maybe start with a lawn mower engine.

do it if you have another form of transportation, it will be more than worth it. That's how i've done most things, "you took it apart, time to put it back together."

Go buy a chilton's manual! :)

I'd rather take apart a slightly broken, more powerful engine that I could swap into my car afterwards. No need to worry about breaking your car and at the end of the day you've got more power.

It's a Honda clone.....
Sofar it's fucking nice. I removed the governor so unlimited rpms yo.
I've got an old Husqwarna string trimmer with a two-smoker engine. It's been sitting for at least 10 years and now it's really hard to get started, what do you think it could be? Spark plug?

All of the Predator engines have high reviews, all at least 4 stars.
At the moment, his 212cc has 4.5/5 stars with 205 reviews
There's a reason people fellate them, they are amazing if you have a HF store near you.
The standard warrenty is 90 days. If you dislike it, it breaks down, etc. You bring it in, AFTER draining the fuel, and it will be returned/exchanged without hassle.
Harbor Freight isn't nearly as bad as everyone thinks. If you work in a professional environment, it's best to pick and choose what to buy from HF, but the vast majority is great for the DIY guys.
I have a box and hand tools from there I picked up 5 years ago when I started at best buy.. still working great.
Can't say as I recommend the following stuff, though;
Air disconnects
Power tools (grinder, drill, dremel-style thing, soldering gun, I've broken them all)
Most air tools (impact still works, air saw does not)
Everything else though, rock on.

Is It starting at all?Geting spark?Full of old Gas?Gummed up reed valve?
I emptied the gas and put some new premixed in it yesterday, it eventually fired up (after maybe 20 tries) and I used it for 30-40 minutes without a problem. I tried it about 10 times last night, nothing.

Reed valve depends on the 2-cycles design, like if it gets the mix from the crank case or the head. most small 2-cycles have the carb on the head and use a negative pressure kinda situation to draw in the air/fuel/oil mix where as the the former does the thing I'm sure you know.
My dad used to have an old 7.5hp game fisher outboard that had the case-carb reed valve setup, that was fun fixing I'll tell ya.

All of their power/air tools are completely built with a designed to fail mentality. Check out AvE on YouTube, he does power tool teardowns and his videos are very interesting as well as informative.

my harbor freight angle grinder has been going strong for 3 years and I use it nearly every day, sometimes you get lucky
welp. Acording to a new high speed pass at WOT I can do 31mph.
I have 10 tooth main gear, 60 tooth axel gear with a 18" tire...
I did not bypass the governor aparently... :'(

yeah that would be 3500 rpm
you have to remove the whole governor assembly and plug the hole, not just disconnect it from the carb

Take a look at the plug it may not be the best shape, not sure how one cleans gunk out of the internals of a 2 stroke I mostly deal with 4 maybe issue with carb it could not be getting fuel.

the typical method is to shake the case around with diesel in it and ignore any carbon buildup in the combustion chamber.

it's a negative pressure situation either way, the difference is whether positive pressure from the piston moving down closes the reeds or the piston skirt physically blocks the intake port (and positive pressure sends excess fuel/air out the intake backwards or into the boost bottle if it's present)
I'm a reed valve guy myself but most utility engines don't have them since it's just another part that could break
I've been looking around to see if anyone is giving away any free motorcycles, just for shits and giggles.
So far the hunt is dry.

I've got a prospective TS125 find in Ocean Springs behind a warehouse I own, but the owner of the property has a pretty angry rottweiler and I haven't seen the guy leave the trailer yet.
the thing has pretty clearly been parked for decades but it only has surface rust so I'm hoping I can get it for under $100 if he's not the sort to never get rid of things
