Automotive Addicts Lounge V2- Why we are all broke:

Saw an old PI drive by work this morning. Looked ugly as sin with all the spray paint, random stickers, and a spoiler that went 2 ft above the roof of the car.
And then I heard the blower whine and immediately realized it was made ugly on purpose to try and fool people....
Well played PI owner, well played....
My fiancee wet sanded both rear quarters, and when I came home I polished them both. Both of those were significantly easier than the hood. Maybe it's because the hood is in direct light so more imperfections show up. You can kind of see where the non polished door is a denser, rougher color. Tomorrow we'll wet sand and polish the doors, then the next day the front fenders, and so on.
Before I did that though, I finished drawing out and printing the custom "Hang 10" stripe. I think it looks pretty freaking badass. We're going for a beach cruiser vibe. The color kind of forces it to be, and it will look sweet. The stripe goes on each panel after it gets polished so there is no chance for dirt to get on the car before the stripe, and let me tell you, after you smooth it out and apply vinyl, it sticks so easily. Right now for today just the rear quarter of the stripe is on, but that will be the coolest part. The rest of it is just the twin stripes, and it might have a small wave in the front, but probably not.
There's a few little imperfections and high spots in the paint, but overall, I can't spend several hours and days trying to fix it or it defeats the purpose of it being a cheap paint job.
This is another example of how rolled paint comes out good.
Mine came out bad due to using the wrong kind of paint, after following the advice of old timers, rather than researching online. It didn't self level right at all, leaving too much of a height variance to sand.
At this point, I will try to thin the paint and retop it. If it doesn't work, i'll strip it and go to the right paint.
It's a subtle change but a change non the less

for some reason, that bug looks really pissed.
Bought a green 1998 Buick LaSabre. I'm so excited to get rid of my mitsubishi
Attaboy, embrace the comfort of owning an American car.

and then I want to get back into flying, too! RIP my conceivable future wealth.
I ventured into flying. Knew it was going to be expensive. Did not know it was going to be new-house expensive.
Just buy a used Cessna off craiglist big guy
Did a little photoshoot of the Subaru and the Lolvo

$80+ for an alignment. Fuck. That. I'll get some string and do this myself if needed after I inspect tie rods. I'll be keeping my uneven worn tires. Only two more years left on this vehicle anyway.
Just changed the primary chaincase fluid on my bike. Of all things I was not expecting the old oil to he pitch BLACK. For a second I thought I pulled the crankcase plug.
Why would the oil be black if the only thing that's in there is the clutch and the main chain?
grease off the chain maybe?

That is incredibly cheap
grease off the chain maybe?
Its a totally sealed case between the engine and transmission that houses the chain between the two, and the clutch. It uses oil, not grease. The link between the trans and rear wheel is a belt.

Going to inspect the idler arm too since those commonly wear out and cause issues with tire wear (specifically passenger front, which is where my problem is)
Anyone here owned a fairly new Jaguar? Considering getting one but have no idea what they're like to service etc.

If you can't ever endure being far away from your mechanic, Jaguar is the car for you.
New Jags are far better than old ones, but they're still a relatively small British automotive company, which is synonymous for "it's gonna fucking fall apart"
If you want some laughs, look at the Jaguar XF Consumer Reports score from 2014 or earlier. It's almost entirely "far below average" on everything that isn't the engine.

holy shit no lol
If you want a comfortable sports sedan, go for one of the boring obvious choices like Lexus, which has the automotive engineering might of Toyota behind it and is one of the most reliable luxury brands out there.

People said shit about Alfa Romeo and mine had served me well so far! Also Jaguar Land Rover is huge.

This is basically all I'm gonna own for the rest of time. Subaru and Volvo wagons.
That is incredibly cheap
Local mechanic here does them for 54.99 Canadian. 80 is on the highside and the + on the end sounds like he is leaving room to price you're.
The mechanic who did my break lines charged me full price for a tow that was within the same parking lot.
Well I'm lost. Checked the tie rods... those are inconclusive. Slight tire play is present, but when I look good at it, the rods' ends are solid. Everything moves as one.
Idler/pitman arms are solid. Excessive wear..ideas welcome.
On the bright side I did complete a steering box adjustment. Much more sensitive steering. Thank god.

They aren't bad cars, but the transmissions (ZF 6HP) can fall apart if you don't change the fluid. They are fine cars as long as they aren't abused. Fuel pumps can be a pain in the ass, and so can the AWD system if you dare touch an X-Type 3.0. XFs aren't bad unless if you treat your car like shit.
Also Consumer Reports isn't accurate about anything since it's run by a fairly jaded group of journalists and their ratings reflect this.
If it's worth anything, every Jag owner I talk to loves their car, and they drive really nice compared to newer German offerings (which are even better than Lexus).

The obvious is your alignment is off, other things could be bushings having settled in from how the suspension wants to move to. The bottom of the wheel always wants to kick out giving negative camber.
Hit something? Could've bent something slightly.
Have you checked out your ride height between your left and right sides? Torsion bars can sag on jimmys and blazers causing that wear because of a slight tilt to either side.

I've shown DP the photo before, but the previous owner had obviously hit some shit and not reported it. My passenger-front side trim has excessive gaps compared to the driver's side. Everything is snug, nothing loose with it. I'm going to spend some quality time tomorrow with some twine and tape measure to align the tires. I hope the alignment is completely off and is the obvious fix. If its not, then I'll probably have to go digging at the steering rack + suspension
I got my new soft top installed today.

99% sure the old top was the original one, so this upgrade was 22 years in the making.
Are those E30 BBS rims?
Are those E30 BBS rims?
They're the 14x6 BBS that came from the factory on special trims of '92 and '93 Miata.
