Does anyone want to buy a 1972 270 Datsun? I am just watching this guy ruin his and I want to save it but already have a project ):
1972 you say... perfect for California. Where is it and how much?
The heads may be a bottleneck but you can get a good set of GT40 heads and intake off of a ~1996 explorer for like $80 from a junkyard. Combine it with a cam and you're making 300hp at the crank easy.
Correct. But you're looking at this from a price perspective (which is completely valid), whereas I'm looking at it from a mod vs power gain perspective. Starting from 200hp, if you upgrade the heads, cams, add long tubes, add an intake manifold, you could reach 300hp. A gain of 100hp. On my 3v 4.6 (smaller displacement mind you, starting at 300hp), after cams and headers alone, I was up to 386hp. My new intake manifold and throttle body should easily push me up to around 410hp. That's a gain of 110hp WITHOUT touching the heads. Upgrading the heads could EASILY grab me another 20-30 hp. A 2v will never make use of mods as efficiently as a 3v or 4v. The more valves you have, while they may be smaller, actually increases the total area of the cylinder head covered in valve space. More valve space means better air flow in and out of the engine.
Should I pick up a RV for 300$? Has a 454 and trans is unknown... BUT RUNS AND DRIVES! The generator is gone so no chance in making that money as profit... Im just worried I will have to dispose of the body and that costing a arm and a leg... And then I would just have a rv frame that I cant get rid of because no title....

Steal the drive train for a muscle car of that brand and rip apart the frame for a super massive offroad gokart.
DP called me gay for wanting a Duster soooooooo
1972 you say... perfect for California. Where is it and how much?
Near Festus Missouri for 700. [editline]9th July 2015[/editline] Though sure you could haggle him down to 500
Finally picked her up today, sticks to curves like nothing I have driven before, still have to wait 4 fucking months to drive it by myself though, so that sucks. But besides that I am super grateful and happy about this, literally could just drive it all day. [sp] Hope to fucking christ I don't have to do maintenance on it for at least 3,000 miles.
DP called me gay for wanting a Duster soooooooo
Fuck DP, go buy a duster. Hell, buy 3. I almost bought 2 more for $200, hell maybe i will
So the muffler was on backorder. Overlooked that until opening my jegs box and it only having a cat in it.
So the muffler was on backorder. Overlooked that until opening my jegs box and it only having a cat in it.
Given it a name yet?
Fuck DP, go buy a duster. Hell, buy 3. I almost bought 2 more for $200, hell maybe i will
While working I've been driving by lots and lots of farms trying to find something... anything.. Nope. Rust belt reigns supreme.
I know of a real nice 300ZX you could buy near me..
So, my mom got the oil light on in her Peugeot today, it started when she was going downhill and hasn't turned off yet. Oil level is good, oil looked good, but it looked like there was a bit of oilk around what I think is the oil filter. Anyone care to take a guess?
Oil pressure
Agreed, now as to why. If it were me, i would start by checking the oil pressure sensor. Make sure the wiring is good, that it's not just a false positive kinda thing. Going from there, I'd drain the oil and filter to check for debris. Metal shavings, chunks, etc. That may signal things clogging oil passages.
My troubleshooting for oil light is remove oil sensor, screw in a mechanical oil pressure gauge, and fire up the engine. If oil pressure good, replace the sensor. If oil pressure is naught, prepare for work.

If oil pressure is naught, prepare for work.
If the mechanical oil pressure reads too low / basically nothing, then it's best not to run it at all. Parts won't be lubricated and you'll end up seizing the engine. How old is the Peugeot anyway? If it's a newer one, I'd honestly let a Peugeot dealership do it if it was up to me - oil and oil pressure are things to be dealt with using caution. Hope for it to be a faulty sensor.
Anyone from the UK know of any decent cheap tool brands? I wanted to get a tool set ready for once I find a car, not going to go mad with it but will hopefully be doing most of the servicing it may need. Found this one which is pretty cheap and has all the smaller sized stuff I would have thought I could need http://www.amazon.co.uk/Draper-Series-19776-107-Piece-Mechanics/dp/B0040Y939G/ref=pd_sim_sbs_60_3?ie=UTF8&refRID=1T8QBD0210Y267KRGP0X
"decent" and "cheap" tools.... good luck. I'd pay the $$ and get Craftsman so you can break shit and get it replaced
my husky shit from home depot has served me great, they warranty everything. only had to warranty my 1/4 ratchet because a co worker broke it when I was a mechanic.
"decent" and "cheap" tools.... good luck. I'd pay the $$ and get Craftsman so you can break shit and get it replaced
I've been mostly a Kobalt guy, myself. That's what we're supplied at work, and I've had very few problems out of them aside from PVC cutters. I did manage to break a 5/16 nut driver in half one day by taking it out of my pocket and unscrewing a hose clamp, though. But for me, the best thing is picking up a quality Craftsman flathead out of my Dad's tool bench that's got rust galore over the entire shaft, dip it in some rust out for about five seconds and smash it on concrete. The rust chips right off and you get to work within minutes. Cheap tools definitely don't have that kind of life expectancy out of lifetime warranty Craftsman or Kobalts.
Been putting up with my car rough idling for a while and finally it started arbitrarily shutting itself off last week. Peek here, poke there, and finally isolated the issue to the electric throttle shutting and stopping responding until the key's turned off and back on. Took it to the mechanic and long story short the PCM is getting a bit too big for its britches and shutting the engine down because of a serial communication failure. At my mechanic's recommendation, I ordered a new one, but despite mentioning a 1-3 business day delay on shipping it's been two weeks since label generation and it's still in New York somewhere. Joy.
I got to do something I thought I wouldn't have to do again for a long time since I owned a Vibe... and that was work on a Toyota. Man do I not miss that FWD bullshit one bit. The bearing went out on my dad's water pump in his 1994 Celica. Now... normally, on an intelligently designed vehicle, that would mean taking the accessory belt off, and then pulling the pump, replacing, and then going about your day. But hell no. Couldn't be that simple, because I forgot my Darts are just way too easy. You have to take the side engine mounts off, take the alternator off, take the alternator bracket off, drop the engine out of the car a bit, pull the top timing cover off, crank engine to TDC1, pull the crank pulley off, pull both idler and tensioner pulleys off, remove the timing belt... and THEN you can unbolt 6 tiny bolts and one big bolt on the water pump, and replace it. The water pump itself takes all of 5 minutes, but you have to pull the whole damn engine apart. You guys with FWD cars don't know the pain you are inflicting on yourselves. He will not find another like it.
