Also, what was the drill bit rolling around for? Did you have to drill a hole to get the ignition switch out?
I forgot what I was doing with that... Didn't touch anything with it though. I think I bored a piece of plastic out or something. Nothing to do with the car though.
My car is not EMP proof but it's too dumb for skynet to bother with. One 8-bit ECU and an 8-bit PCM that's it. The rest is relays and IC's.
I doubt it's going to overide a .45 ACP FMJ to the tranny. [editline]27th April 2015[/editline] Faraday cages work pretty good, but you're going to have a hard time doing that around the entire vehicle.
Wouldn't do the entire vehicle, just around systems that would need the protection. I kinda need a cell signal in a vehicle
Huh, just read some articles. Apparently a largely metallic car is significantly less likely to be affected by a HEMP(High altitude EMP) blast because it forms a more significant faraday cage. All these plastic cars coming out are losing that advantage, however a car doesn't have nearly enough long cabling inside of it to properly serve as an antenna. Power grids are going to be what take the brunt of it because power lines act as antenna for the effect.
"I drive a big steel car because it prevents from emps"
Obligatory 'Murica! on that one. But yeah, HEMPs are moderately less-effective on low-flying aerial vehicles (basically hovering helicopters/VTOLS) and ground vehicles. They'd still affect the larger electronics and those outside of the basic framework (bye-bye radio, battery, and anything fueled by the battery). Basically the same principle as being safe in a vehicle during a lightning strike because it would be transfered around the cage and not through you. Look up Faraday's Law and Gauss's laws for why.
"I drive a big steel car because it prevents from emps"
We should all drive Benz W126s and Panther plat fords! The bigger the Gaussian surface, the better
We should all drive Benz W126s and Panther plat fords! The bigger the Gaussian surface, the better
I am okay with this world.
I am okay with this world.
I would suggest that all human brethrin (of which I am a part of) should drive prius's, because significant data shows that all the plastic DOES block emps and harmful things. Here's a wikipedia article to support the information: EMP SAFETY
Well.. it's been one hell of a day. I went to see the NSX and got there at about noon. It looked even better than in photos, and he let me drive it and the gearbox and clutch felt great (the pedal, not me. Well, me too, actually). I ended up paying $1k more than I wanted to spend for it, but shape it was in justified it, IMO. The fact that the timing belt and water pump was done at the same time as an engine 'rebuild' last fall means that it's basically a new engine from the block up, seal-wise. This;
Car spent time at Acura of Brookfield to fix a screw that came off of the butterfly valve in the intake plenum (I think I got that right). Long story short, the screw marred up the cylinder wall, so that was re-milled. A new piston/rod was installed, a valve was bent so that was replaced. Since the engine was completely taken apart, all of the gaskets/seals were replaced. While this isn't a "rebuild" per se, there was considerable work done. The results are night and day. The car pulls much stronger than it ever has in the 10 years I've owned it. The new owner can take comfort in knowing this motor is strong and is good to go for some time to come, at a considerable cost to me. Any questions, please contact John Vasos at Acura of Brookfield. I can't say enough about the level of effort he and the techs at AoB put into this thing to get it right. John is the man. Unreal.
A new clutch was also done in Aug 2012, too. So that's good. The most expensive wear items are up to speed and shouldn't need attention for quite some time, knock on wood. It will also probably help that I'm not someone who drives it 'hard'. Some spirited acceleration to get onto the freeway and cornering is about as 'wild' as it gets. Don't want any tire smoke, that's dollar bills floating away, lol. So, after that I drove it home, no plates of course. Figured I was going to get pulled over, but I didn't (saw two state troopers, I don't know how they didn't nail me. Would've been annoying) Once in town it was straight to my insurance co to get pictures on file and a copy of the purchase receipt on file for appraisal purposes in case the worst should ever happen. I got the great news that the original quote of $75/month for full coverage to insure it could be cut IN HALF by insuring it as an antique/collector car policy. So that's phenomenal. Under $40/month for insuring a MR sports car :downs: He took pics of the condition and insisted on taking one of me and emailing it to me, lol It was a swirl for the rest of the night, but I managed to snap these quick shitty pics of the stable outside. I had to pull my baby (the Buick) out of the garage to make room for the NSX. It's currently at a friend's place in their car-port until I figure out what I want to do with it (I really would rather a friend buy it, lol) And the fuzziest potato picture of them all, here it is in the garage, which I now lock :v: I still can't believe it! It's a car I didn't think I'd get, as the price climbed year by year. But I did. The only issue, it's all stock except for exhaust, shifter, and seat covers. The paint is nice, everything is too nice to modify, lol. I'm gonna just enjoy driving a rare fun car for a while, and I think if I absolutely can't stand not bastardizing the car I'll move on to something new. But I just bought the damn thing so no reason to plan years ahead, hehe. I'm gonna go shake in the corner or something, now.
You done good, Clutch. You done good.
you are now the god of AA all hail
you are now the god of AA all hail
But is he the DK?
Your insurance is less than my dad's Honda Civic. That's ridiculous and amazing. Good job dude!
But is he the DK?
Dart king?
Everyone band together and shoot your cars a few times.
You out your goddamn mind I'd never shoot Trucky he's my baby.
You out your goddamn mind I'd never shoot Trucky he's my baby.
Consider it your mistake for buying a car from 1975 and newer. It could possibly be out to get you. Me personally, I know I'll never have to put down the Huntress. She'd never turn into a robot and kill me.
What exactly is that?
It's a Mercedes G-class! [sp]It's a 1987 Suzuki Samurai. I don't know why the emblem is there, and I'm never taking it off.[/sp]
It has character!
The biggest downside to a Samurai is that they don't really do highway speed, and I'm not one for tinkering with automobiles too much. Still, it's basically me: the car. Wish I could have met the guy who did everything to it.

I'm sure they're simple, I just have no idea what i'm doing. My dad used to own an older Suzuki Sidekick, which I always liked. I was looking for something like a Kei truck for awhile when I bought it, but after I saw the craigslist ad I had to own it.
I need a kei van in my life. Or Ldesu's Domingo. Hey Ldesu, I'll give you all of my money for your Domingo!
What I really want is a Land Rover Defender. Bit more expensive, those :v:
