He doesn't have to. He already called me saying GO PICK IT UP. brb getting no sleep tonite. Too bad I'm going to miss more of clutch2 at 11pm. [editline]29th April 2015[/editline] why...do you need jets? Use the ones that came with it. Clean them with carb cleaner or soak em overnight in.... berryman... stuff...
Well, the carb is a holley 5210c my friend pulled off of a 70s car in a scrapyard a few years ago. Coincedentally that model is a liscensed copy of the weber 32/36, which people run on beetles pretty regularly. So the carb is jetted for a 2l or 2.3l chevy, ford, or amc 4-cyl, and not my 1.6l vw motor.
It's so expensive because it's bought pretty much exclusively by doctors, attorneys and the like who are willing to shell out the extra dosh for what is essentially a dolled up military jeep with some leather and more power. Made by a German company, so slap an extra $5k minimum onto the pricetag compared to its competitors, of course. Strangely, I almost never see men driving it; almost always women. It is a mystery. Get a Hummer H1, it's more manly and American. [t]http://i.imgur.com/j1wEMCJ.jpg[/t] YOU CAN HAVE A VENT.
Hummers are far too big. I've always loved the tiny boxy military utility vehicle look. A Hummer tells people that you want all the road to yourself, and there's nothing they can do to stop it. A spray paint camo Samurai with pitch black tinted windows tells people that you're probably going to end up in a cabin deep in the woods surrounded by FBI helicopters one day. Maybe that's not much of an argument.
Because you live in NJ, the state where I made the mistake of taking the wrong turn on an elevated section of the turnpike, had to drive like a mile on level ground and those streets may have well been gravel for their poor condition.
yep, potholes aren't even that bad, they just do an awful job fixing them. they just put giant mounds of pavement everywhere
Priced fair. Offer $1000 gone maybe? Interior should clean up easily and a new vinyl top will make the car look new, along with a good detail job. The slant 6 will run forever, as will the trans, you wont have much power (for now) but it'll be a fun car. If you part it out you could likely make close to $1000 off it. i'd 440 swap it for a monster sleeper
Ye, 440 swap is on the table. We're waiting to hear back from the dude, hoping to go look at it and maybe bring it home tomorrow. [editline]28th April 2015[/editline] Serj I see you reading. What do you think?
Priced fair. Offer $1000 gone maybe? Interior should clean up easily and a new vinyl top will make the car look new, along with a good detail job. If you part it out you could likely make close to $1000 off it. i'd 440 swap it for a monster sleeper
Stop parting nice cars out. Did you catch that this Valiant has power steering and A/C? This is a high option car. OF COURSE THE SLANT SIX RUNS. That's a stupid thing to ask a seller with a slant. Even if there's been no oil or water in it for a year, it runs. Even if there's a huge hole in the block - it runs. That's a nice looking car, hate the interior color, but that can be changed easily. $1300 is a steal. I just bought our '74 Dart Custom for $1500, been driving it all over the damn place. Just from looking at the parts in the engine bay it either was - or is - a well maintained daily driver. You can tell they keep it going. Go get it. Also I say no to the 440. Get a car that already has a v8 in it and go from there. Why would you take out a perfectly reliable engine in place of a gas guzzling maintenance fest? 440's are fine in a car that needs one, that car - does not. Also if you ever want to turbo it, I have a list of parts and the plans, photographs, etc...
I wouldn't dream of parting it out. Now I'm even more excited. I might have to gank my bud and buy it myself. It's not like we'd be chucking the slant six anyway, we'd just be Roadkill swapping it with an RV 440 for fun and then plugging it back in later. Really appreciate your advice! I'll be pestering you for help if anything goes wrong.
I wouldn't dream of parting it out. Now I'm even more excited. I might have to gank my bud and buy it myself. You can also see in the interior, they pulled the fabric off the seats, but put a blanket over it. That's a good sign - it shows they at least cared about it and drove it no matter how it looked, ya know? I'd cover the roof with at least some paint. If you're looking to go cheap, fill the roof seam and spray some bedliner on it. It'll look like a vinyl top... You can always pester me, or pester mustang sally, I don't think he thinks of the slant as anything more than a space saver though. There's also websites and stuff dedicated to everything you need to know, and literally every part on that motor is less than $20 to replace if it ever breaks. I just bought all new freeze plugs because the stock steel ones INSTALLED IN 1967 JUST NOW rotted. $3/piece and 15 minutes, had em all out - and new ones in. That's the other thing with the slant - incredibly easy to work on. If the A/C doesn't work, take the pump and all the hoses and tubing and condensor off, as well as the interior A/C vent assembly off, and sell it - that should net $400 towards play money for everything else.
We can redo the vinyl but I think he wants to paint the whole car low gloss black. Personally I like the forest green but it'd look nice in black too. I wouldn't be surprised if the car needs to be repainted (rust under the paint, especially around the bottom) even though the paint looks good from the pictures. I feel like it's been taken pretty well care of mechanically - it just looks like someone really enjoyed driving it, which is a good sign. Easy maintenance is his number one drive for buying this car, so it's good to know the slant is so easy and cheap. I didn't know the AC was worth that much, but since this is Texas I think it'll be getting fixed if it's broken.

But did you notice, that being original, it's not peeling, or sunspotted like a new car gets? Shit used to be painted good. All that's wrong is it faded...
Nobody repaints a mopar in forest green unless they're restoring to factory, so I'm sure it's original since it definitely isn't a resto. As long as the paint's not presenting a cancer hazard it'll probably get left alone. We're both all about original. If the car needs a repaint it'll probably be black.
Hey what do y'all think of my baby? [t]http://i.cubeupload.com/RxRLht.jpg[/t] Got lucky with her, I think. Found her at a dealership, 2006 w/ less than 54,000 miles. $13,995 sticker price, traded in a 2003 honda odyssey for it (they gave me $5000 for that POS van).

The 360 no longer runs (fancy that) but the car looks nice. We were thinking, if we had to repaint it, black with police wheels for that government look. Do you have any videos of your Dart? I'm curious as to what a turbo'd slant six sounds like.

Now I want a Dart just to join the party. However I'd swap in a 2.0 EcoBoost because screw the slant.

Sorry the other ones vertical. That's just the way it worked out. I'll have a link for that one in a sec. Edit: Here it is: My car is muffled well, and the idea is that all you really hear on boost is the "woosh" sound. I wanted it to be quiet and unassuming. I also have the car show I just went to on my channel as well. Not as exciting.
Spent twenty minutes today trying to figure out how to fit a turbocharger on my Tracker to fix the compression problems instead of changing my rings and valves. :v:

Second one's private but the first answered my concerns - I was afraid turboing it would make it sound silly, and it doesn't. This is gonna be a fun ride. I'll be heartbroken if he's already sold the damn thing.

Dollar for dollar your better off just 440 swapping the car. $500 for the engine and trans and your already at more horsepower and torque than a turbo'd slant. Shove a small cam, intake, headers, holley 750, and your making an easy 300hp+ and 500ft/lbs of torque. You'd have to do something about the rear end eventually, but it'll hold on a mild rv engine. Plus with the 440 the power potential goes as high as 1000+, aftermarket is huge, and parts are plentiful. And its a big block! The slant is crippled by never being a race horse, its just an old donkey. You can strap a rocket to the donkey but eventually that donkey wont be able to handle the rocket. Stock replacement stuff is cheap, but aftermarket and performance parts are rare and vary in price. You'll be limited by poor head flow, lack of aftermarket, 6 cylinders, and low compression/no aftermarket pistons. The 727 with the big block will drop right in, linkage will be the only obstacle. May need to shorten the driveshaft, or at least yoke swap, and swap mounts are cheap. No need for heavier front springs as you can just crank up the front torsion bars. Budget for $2000-2500 done, running car. Thats including the initial purchase price. As for the body the original paint may shine up nice, it'll look pretty cool in a sleeper kinda way. Black steelies with dog dishes would be cool. If the roof is rusty/leaking then just plastidipping it may not be enough. The vynl tops are cheap too. You maaaaay be able to get $100 for that slant pulled. I just scrapped the one from my dart. i dont know where serj is getting the idea of the 440 being unreliable? Its no slant 6 but the old iron monsters are pretty venerable. Yeah mileage wont be great, but who gives a fuck about saving $10 a tank when your smiling ear to ear when the big 750 holley opens up and the car goes sideways. Its just a fun driver anyways.
So guy is coming to look at my Pontiac tomorrow I hope he buys it then I can get in on this: [t]http://images.craigslist.org/00M0M_aOmL37uC8yh_600x450.jpg[/t] Doesnt run,but ive torn down and rebuilt tons of engines and I practically lived in shop class for grades 10-12

Lets wife drive it in hopes that it would be written off someday. Husband drives an Audi RS5 Avant to work instead. Seriously this is what I think everytime I see the G wagon. A Jeep Wrangler is more refined on road....

I do plan on building him a 440 to drop in for fun, but it'll get swapped back for everyday driving. Mopar engine swaps are pretty clean and simple from what I've seen so that's no biggie. Do we need to run a lead additive in the fuel? That's something I meant to ask yesterday but forgot.

Otherwise the garbage gas eill eat the valve seats. Also valon theres tons of aftermarket pistons available for the slant... domed. Recessed valve. You can turn it into an interference motor. Theres different head gaskets, headers, intakes, supercharger setups, etc... and all of them are 100x more interesting than a 440... If anything if youre really set on swapping a motor, find a 340 or 360 and work with that. Then turbo that too. Theres no super awesome power to be made with a turbo slant, but ive seen a fuel injected turbo slant make 345hp. Thats a lot of work though. Its more about being different.
