Take ANYTHING from top gear with a grain of salt. Don't get me wrong, it's a great show, but it's more for entertainment than a review of cars. Also, wikipedia said the 86 only came with an NA 2.5 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Porsche_944 If you do buy a porsche, invest in a nice set of tools. they didn't get their high-maintenance stigma for no reason. [editline]20th April 2015[/editline] If your's IS turbo (doubtful, they're rare) then prepare for even MORE maintenance.
Yeah I know, and a lot of it is scripted too. I don't take anything outside of their actual factual bits as truth, really. But I do trust their opinions since they generally seem to know what they're on about. I did a lookup of the car based on license plate and the papers state that it's Turbo apparently. Might be a mistake on their behalf but I guess I'll find out on Sunday when I look at it. If it is, then maintenance aside it'll definitely be a bargain for the price. And I'm prepared to do some potential work on it. That's part of the fun anyway! This thing has been around for 30 years and it still looks gorgeous though, so at least visually it's been taken good care of. [t]http://i.imgur.com/3fkQLrL.png[/t]
I've found a Porsche 944, model of '86. Becomes tax free as of next year due to veteran status. Recently checked and passed all tests. Price is 5,300 dollars. Yes/No? Also, first car I'll get. I posted last thread about wanting a Fiat Coupe but this just... Seems better. v:v:v
The 944 is like the un-porschiest porsche to ever exist. It even has the engine in the wrong spot. I used to have a 912, which was like the 911, but with a smaller engine, basically they were recycling old engines into newer bodies. It was still a fun car. Loads more style than a 944, and I paid $5k for it... but that was 8 years ago. Mine was a '68. Those frog eyes were stylish. 944 just looks so...ehhh.
Well it's definetly not good :v: The bump at the smudge mark is the legal limit, so when that point is flush you'll get a hefty fine.
I don't think we'd actually even get a fine here, just a fix-it ticket lol. Here's a URL to show unread posts on this thread if anyone wants to replace their FP bookmark with it like I have. http://facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=1461615&goto=newpost

There's something about the curvy look of the 911 and 912 that just doesn't sit right with me. The 944 is pretty much to a T what I like in a car. The only thing I'm not a van of visually is the pop-up lights, because then it goes from cool to cute in half a second. But I can live with that.

Regardless, I guess sorry if I don't want my car to look like a pair of tits? I like the sharp, defined edges of the 944 - and some older Volvos. One of my favorite cars is the Chrystler 5th Avenue. [t]http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/8/8d/Chrysler_Fifth_Avenue_-_Flickr_-_mick_-_Lumix.jpg[/t] MmmmMMMMmm.
The 944 is fucking sexy, yes, but also hilariously underpowered. That said, you are getting it for a steal. I'm kinda jealous. I'd love to have a porch, even the 944, for 5300 doll hairs.
What's wrong with that?
The cow tit part.
Hey guys. Long time lurker of this thread (And the whole forum in general). You guys seem to be pretty good with cars, and me not so much. So I was wondering if someone would be able to point me in the right direction for a little problem i've encountered in the last week? I've noticed a small splotch of oil on the foot mat in my car (2007 Ford Focus St) and I have no clue where it could be coming from. Checked all the fluids under the hood even if I was sure it had nothing to do with it (engine oil, brake fluid, coolant, and power steering) and nothing seems to have dropped at all. I've included some pictures of the spot on the mat, and the general area where I think its coming from. (Yes I know my car is absolutely filthy, muddy construction sites and muddy boots haha) It's the slightly rusted metal part that seems oily, leads me to believe it's coming from that area. Any ideas? Usually I can do most work on the car myself with a few pointers, but if it's a big fix it will most likely end up at the shop. Any advice would be appreciated, thanks guys!
splotch
Gonna say that's probably fluid leaking from your clutch master cyl. I'm not sure if that's a 'change a seal' or 'change the entire unit' deal though.

That and I probably won't go over the speedlimit much anyway. Also I doublechecked, the one I'm looking at is most definetely the 944 Turbo. What gives it away is the bumper. Which is lovely, tbh. I'm not sure if this is universal but my friend's 944 is literally always broken. Something is almost always really wrong with it.

The stigma that all German cars get is due to people deferring maintenance and not paying attention to the condition of the car. Any little bit of neglect on a German car will instantly turn it into a maintenance whore. Also DP, if I could come and get that thing I would, as I've got an OM 616 and a 4 spd manual sitting out in east bumfuck waiting to get a new home.
lmao what, source on this? That sounds ridiculous and bordering on parody. .
It seems silly, but a lot of car designers were trying to imitate the curves of a woman. And honestly, if I do end up getting this (and it looks like I will) then I will treat it like a pearl. Keeping it clean, regular checkups and all. If it'd been some old-ass Volvo or BMW I probably wouldn't have cared as much, but this is a good car and I plan to keep it good.
The 944 Turbo introduced some body changes that carried over to later water-cooled models. Most noticeable is the aerodynamic front end. I'd say its the master too, they're pretty easy to change. The hardest part is getting your hands into the foot well. Like always, I miss that fresh, new thread smell. My car doesn't even stay that scent for that short of a period.
My 85 supra has 160-170 HP and it's really fun to drive.
Also, Grox, is it hydraulic fluid from the brake pedal? Does the arm on it feel oily? [editline]20th April 2015[/editline] Muh merge, man. Sorry for ruining yours. :v:
My 85 supra has 160-170 HP and it's really fun to drive.
Admittedly, I dog on it for having that damned engine issue before I could even see it's true power, but my car's 200ish AWD is a shit-tonne of fun on rainy days and an absolute blast in the snow since it's so easy to break loose and just as easy to get back under control.
Should I turbo or supercharge my 2013 Civic Si? Or get something like an Evo or GTO or something?
Well.. I wrote and delivered a $4800 quote for a '14 Corvette convertible system today. Always intimidating, spending an hour with a rich person addressing concerns, questions, etc. Then if they go for it the REAL nerve mangling part starts.. actually doing the work to make it sound amazing. :S
God dammit, planned to go for a morning drive, head to Supercheap Autos, get me some tools and work on the car. 70-120km/h gusts, severe weather warning, everyone told to stay at home unless its really really necessary. At least my car isn't under some tree now. I heard over 200 cars got smashed by trees overnight.
Should I turbo or supercharge my 2013 Civic Si? Or get something like an Evo or GTO or something?
Don't. Just go buy a slant six, turbocharge that, then drop it in your 2013 Si.
ahhaha, everyone says this. also it's really easy to pop on a new bumper.
Well I did say "probably" :v: I mean I won't be able to resist now and again but y'know, only if I know I'm not endangering others and so forth.

Right? Didn't feel any fluid, just years of dust & dirt, although the clutch arm felt kinda oily. I'm thinking it's the master cylinder, found a video of a guy replacing his on his Focus and sounded like the exact same problem, so fingers crossed!
Yeah you put brake fluid in the clutch master cylinder.
Basically, yeah. Hydraulic fluids in general are either a waste oil or a water-based fluid that when compressed is able to exert more force than was first applied by changing the pressure. Okay, /physicsnerd.
