How many times do I have to say that I'm not a mechanically inclined individual before you guys understand the core concept of the message?

If I cut the bedrail it's going to flop around and/or in general lack any sort of structural integrity which means it'll be useless for tying things to.
[editline]7th May 2015[/editline]
That's the thing I don't know which brands are the cheap chinese shit and I also don't know which brands are the good ones. That's why I'm asking for help. If I wanted to just buy "any brand" I'd go to autozone's website and just pick the first thing I saw that I liked that's what I DON'T want to do
[editline]7th May 2015[/editline]
Looks good to me.
If you haven't noticed, we don't typically do these kind of mods on your vehicle. TO figure out what brands are good, that requires you to do a little research. We aren't just going to tell you, because we don't even know, every vehicle has different parts suppliers and while URO might be shit for Mercedes, it might be gold for Fords (I highly doubt this one but I don't even).
Also, cold air intakes will not add any kind of useful power as all vehicles technically have cold air intakes, and the engineers spend hundreds of hours designing airboxes to be optimal in all aspects for CAFE.
Magnaflow mufflers might be mkay on the Ford, but I know they drone to hell on Dodges. Once again, you need to speak with someone who does this for a living, a Clutch of the external mod world if you will.
You might not be mechanically inclined, but you learn from trying things. For example, I learned that a Mercedes S600 sunroof from 1999 will fit my 1986 420SEL through test fitting the glass roof pan. I also learned how Bosch CIS works by screwing up my mass airflow sensor to the point that my car doesn't run. I rebuilt an entire airconditioning system through research and stubborn effort. I used to know nothing about cars and I was scared of buying something newer than 1990 because ~computers~, but now, I'd happily take on a newish Benz S600 that won't shift out of second gear and leaks oil all over the damn place, since I learned how shit works.

So after all the transmission was said and done (it did actually need it, so that won't need work again for another half million kilometers), whe whine is still there. Well we can now rule out everything in the transmission as the source, and point the finger at the thrust bearing in the clutch that I had replaced not a fucking year ago. I'll double check on the transmission shop to see if servicing the clutch at all voids my parts warranty on the transmission because it's easier to drop that than pull the engine, then go bitch at the shop that did the clutch job regarding weather or not the parts warranty was six months or a year because I'm pissed.
Failing that, fuck it. I'll drop it and do it myself.

What do y'all do for work that you can afford to do all this car stuff as a hobby?
Whenever I see someone with a trunk setup like that I have to work really hard to stifle laughter. It's just so silly.
What do y'all do for work that you can afford to do all this car stuff as a hobby?
I just work part time, I've made a decent amount of cash doing some photo work for people, although that in itself is as big of a cash hole as cars lol

Welder/Transport mechanic.
5000$ Is really expensive for me my New Yorker was bought and paid for with 2500$
Pretty modest here, I do 12v electronics install full time, and cut vinyl for people / light mechanic and bodywork as a hobby to to bring in extra dough.
Here's the type of trunk that makes ME laugh;

nice.
I've been wanting to get into welding but the machines are expensive and I don't really have a place to do it.
I miss metalworking. I used to do it a lot in high school. I had two periods of shop class back to back for like two years haha.
[editline]7th May 2015[/editline]
I work part time at Home Depot. Wanting to get Full Time but my store doesn't have a lot of FT slots. Good place to work and the pay is good but I need more than 28 hrs/wk
I'm trying to find farmhand/courier/laborer work but there's not a lot of people hiring for that kind of shit where I live. I used to get some courier work for a farmer friend in the area but he stopped throwing things my way, not sure why.

The 4C is for sale here (that photo is by yours truly, in CA). First Alfa after a long hiatus, obviously in the wake of Fiat's return.
Ruled out wheel bearing?
Those were all inspected by me a few days before it went into the shop when I was doing a tire rotation and brake inspection. That's all good for now but I'll probably press the front and rear bearings out next year and replace them. It's something between the transmission and the clutch and it's totally evident if you have the transmission in neutral and you are not pressing on the clutch. There's not a whole lot between the two to go wrong besides that bearing now and I'm already questioning the shop that did the work because they were the last people to pull the tranny and if the seals were intact when I sent the thing for a rebuildI know goddamn well I didn't lose that much gear oil in a year. It's as if they didn't refill it at all.....
I have slight uneven wear with the Blazer. My right front wears slightly more on the inside than the outside. Its not worth the repairs. 2 years and the vehicle is gone anyway... and these tires are only 2 years old
That's most likely just an adjustment of the toe angle and it's fixed

Why? It's still a well functioning trunk.
Or is it the sub that you find silly? Have you ever listened to music with a properly tuned sub before?

The blue light is a bit silly and unnecessary but that's about it
Whenever I see someone with a trunk setup like that I have to work really hard to stifle laughter. It's just so silly.
In cars where it completely wastes 75% of the trunk, yeah it's really silly. I think in that application it works pretty well because all you could do is shove a sweatshirt on each side functionally. I however have been blessed with hatchbacks where you don't have a shit-tier trunk that a 8' tall christmas tree wouldn't fit through if you really wanted. I wouldn't have such a large sub setup in such a tiny trunk, I'd probably opt for a smaller sealed box, something recessed into the spare tire well or a smaller box which is removable/moveable.
Doing an LED strip along the top like that(i'd have white..) is pretty genius though, imagine how functional it could be if you rigged it to the trunk light.
Laborer on a augering/boring crew, we push 30"-72" and even bigger steel pipe across roads and shit. Out of town, 168h every two weeks with $50 a day living out allowance. Good gig.

We built these in our high school welding/engineering class, little electric cars powered off two yellow tops. Everything was from the ground up, a good friend and I(he drove) tore shit up in this. If I hadn't been incompetent at strapping down batteries we would have got first in all but one race. Still got first overall and he even managed to beat the guys who did this super seriously in their FWD cars made of alloy on the most technical track. Didn't really matter since we weren't in their bracket, everyone goes out at the same time though. Had mostly to do with the drivers though, as long as the car wasn't stupid heavy you could do decent.

I was shit at mig welding though, got decent at arc but never kept it up. I've always enjoyed working on the cars more than making them. We actually clear coated the car to preserve the rustiness after we did our first race which was really wet race without paint and won. I figured rust and duct tape design made it look like shit but shit that won. Our front end was slightly off camber and the rear end was crocked because I rigged it all up on our jig and welded it when I really didn't feel comfortable making the most important welds. Someone later railed the shit out of the car and bent the rear end in post season, it was after we graduated anyways so it's a really good thing it didn't give mid-season lol.

Because you've gotten rid of at least a third of the trunk volume straight away, as well as the spare tire. You can't stuff what remains of the trunk full because it'll damage the sub cone. I don't know about the durability of the amp, but to me it looks like you couldn't put anything on top of it because that'll also get crushed. It basically makes the trunk useless for more than a couple bags of groceries. The lighting is tacky but not quite as silly.

Uh no
If you're worried about the cone, then get a basic $5 gitter to protect it and the amp is under a fat wooden plate, why would you ever put it something that would crush a fat wooden plate in your little sedan trunk?
[editline]8th May 2015[/editline]
Nobody in their right mind who actually need a lot of trunk space would get a regular sized sedan

No no, I'm saying that the box that's in there is so big you can only toss clothes on each side of it. So walling off the trunk is just losing sweatshirt storage space that it had without the wall.

That's kinda making my point for me though. It's silly to lose that much trunk space for a gigantic subwoofer. I even asked all you audio people several times and you all said those things really weren't necessary.

If you want audio and space, you don't get a tiny sedan. You get either a SUV or a wagon
I'll be the odd man out here and say that subs are fucking stupid in they're in your trunk. Actually, subs are stupid regardless. Thats some high school type shit that enrages everyone else regardless of what vehicle its in.
If its for show, I got no issues.

I guess you too have never heard a properly tuned sub in a car.
With dynamat, or other sound insulation you almost can't hear the sub outside the car.
If I had a powerful sub then half my interior would fall off with a little bit of bass
A more space efficient way would be to install two (maybe smaller) inbetween the wheelarch and the rear of the trunk, it's quite a common install on 9-5s, especially the wagons.

I restore and rebuild plank for plank - classic anf antique boats. In the interim when there was no clients for two years, I worked for a shitty company doing new facility constructions and working on a 15 year old wooden roller coaster. I was a high climb carpenter. That junk only paid $18/hr+benefits. It was nice having approved paid sick days though.
Im also a member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters recognized as a journeyman finish carpenter.
Basically, I build pretty stuff.
I do 12v installs as well, but for friends, and more for fun. I focus mainly on stealth enclosures and completely hidden systems. No ones ever asked for much complexity. Mostly head unit and amplifier installs and then they want a big storebought untuned box to rattle the plates cause they dont care.
Also mustang sally, I know enough about mopar to drive a dart. I dont know bout dem bigblocks. I gots my slant and 318. I know zactly how much power those two put out. Youll alsl be happy to know that I found a new mopar engine to drop in to my '68. Its.... another slant six. Ill be moving it to the shop to take it apart in my down time. Im going to wiseco the whole deal (rods/pistons/pins), comp cam, replace oil pump, get the crank ground, new bearings , basically full rebuild. Then dropping the block off at beavis machine to hone. I want to try and go .030 over. I think its more than doable and then get pistons to accomodate. Then im bolting on the head I have now as its already shaved .080 and port and polished. If I have monet left over ill do oversized valves and machine for those with bigger springs. I think its be pushing 225 n/a and maybe 300 once the turbo's back on. Trying to keep it under $1, 000
