If you're buying it for parts, sure? .. if you're buying it for use, hell no. [editline]8th May 2015[/editline] People on reddit seriously just recommended people not carry cash to a private auto sale over the fear of civil forfeiture. People are not this stupid, right? People seriously cant believe that.
Don't steal my money copper!
Glad you understand me. Yeah I'd be running a 4 barrel and then a Holley 390 modified for boost just like this 350. ARP headstuds ( yes they have them) and copper headgasket, and o-ring the block. I already have a 02 running on the current setup. It's tuned well, but it's stock internals, so I'm leaving it at 10psi and that's that. I would like to run a regular boost level of about 15-20psi and leave it there, some kind of cam dedicated for turbo, not sure if that means I want a longer duration or not than stock, and I plan to advance the cam about 1 notch when I put it back. Electronic ignition would be nice, but you're talking about 1,000 more dollars in a ECU and all the necessary crank triggers and whatnot. I like the idea of blowing through a carb. If I ever decide to go full EI it won't be with a slant, it will be with a SRT-4 Turbo 2.4. Yes, I would go smaller. I could probably pull 25mpg and 350+ horse with that thing. [editline]8th May 2015[/editline] The slant six is not technically a platform for turbo from the get-go. But the advantage mine has is a lot of forged internals, so the stock reciprocating assembly will stay together at low boost. It kind of likes it actually. It's also a lot of fun to drive. But like above if I ever do swap, it'd be a srt-4. And if I were to swap something weird, I'd go for a K-24/k-20 hybrid sleeved with 15psi, or a 2jz twin turbo. But that's if I go off the "ya cant do anything that aint dang mopar" ledge. But I think as we've all seen, I like being different.
I wasn't say swap it, I was saying look at the kinds of parts that other scenes change on their motors to keep them together. I'd say RB26/2JZ, I wouldn't ever put a 4 cylinder in a car like that unless it was a boosted inline-pro stroker F20C. Delta Cam does some really awesome budget regrinds, they do a lot of N/A and Turbo regrinds. If you send them a couple cores they should be able to make you some basic regrinds that will probably work a lot better than the stock profiles. http://deltacam.com/ There's probably some other place out there that knows how to make cams for slants though. Turbo cams have a unique profile, serious N/A cams do not work well at all in them and have the wrong design entirely. Usually a very mild N/A or large stock cam will work extremely well. [editline]8th May 2015[/editline]
Parts only. I need the engine and transmission for my 89 Daytona engine swap project. 2.5L to 3.8L. The van has 214K miles on it. I'm doing an engine rebuild on it eitherway. Still not sure if I should do it. It'd be ~$320 to get the stuff I need to get from a scrap yard.
Cut the rest up for scrap? Just take all the doors and panels to one place and the main chassis to another. Should make a little money back.
Small update on the MR2: Out of curiosity we decided to turn the idle screw to see if it would idle down, but no luck. I've gotta test the TPS tomorrow I guess, along with the seafoam, and other stuff. After maybe 10 minutes of driving, the idle has dropped to a consistent 1900-2k now, which is slightly better but I have to keep investigating. Gonna shampoo the seats and clean out the cabin too. [editline]9th May 2015[/editline] And I gotta find and fix that oil leak, that's the thing that bothers me the most.
Every day we plan to go look at this fucking Valiant there's a tornadic thunderstorm jesus fucking christ
I took 20mg of adderall and spent like 4 hours detailing and cleaning the shit out of my car. It now looks absolutely sexy and wonderful, and it will hopefully stay that way.
I think I almost wrecked the civic earlier. I really don't want to type it out because I've typed this post about 8 times over the past few hours and just don't really know what to say about it. But I'm here and the car is fine. Only after reviewing gopro footage of the turn where I thought I almost lost it did i realize what really happened. Oh and I "bought" the SHO for $1650. But I only have $1000 So I'm fucked if i cant come up with the other $650 before wednesday when I told the guy I'd come down again to get the car. help
Why the hell would you agree to spend money you don't have? You better get a tiny loan right quick like.
hope you have lube
So yesterday was fun. Started off with interviewing for an apprenticeship, I think it went well, will probably know next week. Last night I was a DD for a couple of my friends and we went to the closest city, I dropped them off at a nightclub and went to talk to some other drivers at the mall. Well, after a while I get a text asking me if I wanted to drive Beltaforce. Now, since you're probably not too knowledgeable of the local russ or Norwegian newspapers, let me introduce you to Beltaforce: 3 metric tonnes of loud, slow, ex-military party wagon. It's a 1970 Volvo BM BV202, with a B18 engine producing a whopping 61kw, with 4 on the floor and a custom built rear wagon with speakers, lasers, smoke machine, and of course a kicking sound system. It's got a top speed of 40km/h, and turns by using hydraulics to bend the joint between the front and rear wagon, the 4wd then pushes and pulls it in the direction you want. But, although it's got a regular steering wheel, it's not normal to drive. For starters, you can't use too high a gear, because if you're going too fast, you'll flip it, and you need to punch it to get around tight corners. You also need to start turning before the corner, because it doesn't turn like a car, it drifts. It legally seats 12, which is a problem because there's room for more in the rear wagon alone, but as a driver you have no control of what's going on behind you, but all of the responsibility. It's big, it's loud, it's absolutely fucking crazy, but its awesome.
That's fucking awesome
Guys, I'm considering buying a Supra. As some of you may or may not know, I'm part of a drift team, which is also happens to be Denmarks biggest jap car/parts import, and the team owner has an old 1996 2JZ-GE MKIV Supra sitting in his garage, up for sale. It's not in a very good shape, but it's far from unusable. It starts and sounds healthy, but it's going to need a few parts and a new battery to be good to use (Don't know what exactly, I'm gonna go have a look at it on tuesday). All the missing interior parts are included, they're in the trunk. The thing is; He'd be willing to sell it to me for a very, very good price, and the ever-so-dreadful Danish tax on cars has finally become realistic for me to pay, since it's an old car by now, and the rates are set after the cars age (amongst other things). As I said, I haven't checked it thoroughly myself yet, but I've seen it sitting there a couple of times and apart from needing a wash and the interior panels refitted, it looks ok. Link to the car, use Google Translate for a sexy translation of the next, if needed: http://jocksbilimport.dk/biler-til-salg-2109/1995-toyota-supra-afhentningstilbud-p3728 I've ALWAYS wanted a Supra. And I have no experience with either RWD or turbo cars, so I wouldn't even consider getting a turbo car for daily driving. I think this car would be a very fun but still usable and well functioning car for everyday use. A stock 2JZ is just a solid workhorse. Plus it's a manual, so that's a big plus in my book. Do you guys have any experience or anything I might wanna know about this topic? And please note; I would be getting the car for less than half the price of what it's listed as in the sales ad. I don't even like Japanese cars but shit, I'd drive a Supra. Go for it.
Why the hell would you agree to spend money you don't have? You better get a tiny loan right quick like.
Payday loan amirite :^)
So... this is the kind of shit you see in the south all the time, and it's still impressive at times... (Courtesy of Reddit justrolledin) [t]http://i.imgur.com/RHsg5XV.jpg[/t]
I would drive that everywhere. Turns out the rejection letter I got in the mail from the credit union was outdated/wrong. So I keep the Impreza. In under a month the lineup (and weather) went from this, [img_thumb]http://i.imgur.com/UFlpuLQ.jpg[/img_thumb] To this, [img_thumb]http://i.imgur.com/o0vRLG5.jpg[/img_thumb] The truck's a 2015 and owned by the company but still my dailydriver, moreso than the subaru. Not even a full day and it already has a few battle marks that weren't my fault. But hey, those are obligatory on a work truck.
I'm telling you, there are some evil genius rednecks down here. You've not lived fully until you've seen a lifted Prius towing a trailer.
I'm telling you, there are some evil genius rednecks down here. You've not lived fully until you've seen a lifted Prius towing a trailer.
Last time I headed south through North Carolina I saw an old project Mustang getting towed on I-95. By another old Mustang.
Yup. If you spend any time on I-81, you'll almost always find a group of Mexicans who buy cheap as shit cars up in New York and then drive them down across the border. It never fails they always tow like an S10 or an F150 with a tiny little Ford Focus or an I4 Mustang and it's hysterical.
Why do diesels sound so... Diesely? And why can't they rev as high as a gas engine? I'm at a loss and google no help.
Because higher compression ratios and beefier internals.
And always having the intake 100% open, using the fuel injection as a means to control rpm. Also, longer strokes and a slower burning fuel. Found another, fixed timing due to compression ignition, so no spark advance, and the fact that the higher the stress, the more likely it is that an oil leak could occur and start a catastrophic runaway. I don't see how you didn't find this stuff, I just googled it.
Why do diesels sound so... Diesely? And why can't they rev as high as a gas engine? I'm at a loss and google no help.
Higher compression ratios and the fact that Diesels aren't ignited via spark-combustion. Diesels can have 18 to 20:1 ratios which can easily be twice that of typical 4-stroke gasoline engines. (Take for example 'High Output' engines generally mark anything between 10:1 to about 13:1, while some lower compression engines that are common can be as low as 5 or 6:1.) Diesels also ignite diesel fuel using only the heat process of compression (hence why they require higher compression ratios than gasoline engines), which produces the unique diesel chatter/knock. See advantages and disadvantages about half-way down for why they have higher torque and lower power-to-weight ratioes from here: Diesel Engine And see why the Diesel cycle has a unique tone and why it revs lower here: Diesel Cycle [editline]9th May 2015[/editline] Also, compression ratio explained:
Diesels just sound and feel manly. Whenever I start my cummins up I flex and grow another hair on my chest. Its just, POWA! Everything about it is testosterone! The old ones, new ones not so much they are too refined and girly. I like my truck where the engine is so loud you have to shut it off in a drive thru or yell when talking outside of it
Suddenly, you understand why Ricers love their shitbox fartcans.
Just going to leave this here. Most of you know my real name anyway, so whatevs. Still waiting on a paycheck from a client for parts... ugh. The second slant I found is still in limbo. The owner is trying to figure out if it was for a car restoration. He has a lot of cars and restores them back to their original state, so if they had a slant when it was new, he puts it back in. Like before, he has A LOT of cars, so I have to wait and see if he'll sell. It's on the same property where I work so I'd just drive it over to my shop with a forklift and put it on a stand and get to it. But still waiting...
I was afraid that was a for sale ad when it first loaded.
