so I decided that if I get a job this summer and make enough money, I'm either gonna buy a miata (preferably NB) or an old mercedes (preferably manual, something small like a 200 series, dont care yet if petrol or diesel) along the lines of this how stupid am i?
Both are decent cars that seem affordable to someone your age. [editline]30th May 2015[/editline] If you had said something silly like a Coldwar era car out of a Warsaw-pact country or a Ford Escape or Explorer on the other hand. Also imagine being the one in the family knowing about cars and computers so many people asking favors. Also 2003 for escape with V6 puts the alternator under exhast manifold above trans and between firewall and engine block had 3 fail within a week.
fantastic! if I get an old mercedes i plan on stancing it just so it doesnt look so fucking stupid like this and then im gonna tint the windows and put some gold bbs rims on it [sp]just kidding dont hurt me[/sp]
Urgh, the baja guy says viewing is only on Mondays 8-5. That's literally the most impossible timeslot.

I'd rather have something like a W123 or W126 wagon though. Related: I dreamt I owned a Silver W126 wagon, and then I came out of a building I see my friends going wild on it, one door is off and everything. As I lean in to yell at them, I notice the car has a sunroof which mine apparently doesn't have. As I lean back out I see my car parked next to the car, which I now see is a sedan...
So I set out to replace the outer tierod on my Civic, had it popped loose with my amazing harbor freight balljoint popper and noticed that the entire thing twisted. Turns out the inner had worked itself a couple turns loose or so. I also was able to use the OEM metal bellows boot clamps on that side as the other side has a really shitty boot that I paid $15 for and is already ripped. So all I had to do was pop the bellow off the rack, tighten it up real good with a 19mm wrench and put it all back together. Took it around the block a few times, alignment looked all good and drove way better. Then I went back inside and drained my head into about 15 napkins, fuck the summer time and fuck being the grass seed capital of the world I just want to die now.
1001, 1002, 1003 here in Norway.
Less than 3 and you get a huge fine, less than 2 and you say goodbye to your license
You get a ticket and three points on your licence if you're less than 1 second behind.
you can get pulled over for tailgating here but there's nothing on the books defining what tailgating is so the cops around here tend to decide what tailgating is on the fly depending on conditions and whether or not the offending driver is a minority
I dont know what the hell these points and seconds everyone is caring about. Follow far enough back to react to two cars ahead of you. And stay off your fucking phone.
I dont know what the hell these points and seconds everyone is caring about. Follow far enough back to react to two cars ahead of you. That, or they're on the computer, too busy playing solitaire or browsing facebook to care what the driver in front of them thinks, not like they can brake check a police officer.
So I've been learning to drive stick and getting better and better I guess but jesus christ my nerves while I was taking off from a stop sign uphill with a truck behind me
running and driving?
Yes. Be prepared to fix rust and body damage
In cars its a bitch, but with a truck, or at least my cummins, you can just dump the clutch and it'll go by itself.
Baja guy gave me an address for Monday, but I decided to swing by to see the location. I couldn't see much from behind the fence, but the beetle is a bit rustier in person and the pinch weld and rocker panels are pretty beat up.
In cars its a bitch, but with a truck, or at least my cummins, you can just dump the clutch and it'll go by itself.
depends on the car.. my e30 you could dump the clutch with no gas and it'd spin the wheels rather than stall.
Yes. Be prepared to fix rust and body damage
are you saying at the price its bound to have rust and body damage? or is it that they all rust like a son-of-a-gun?
Unless she's been rotisseried at least once in her life you're guaranteed to run into it. It's the datsun way
Unless she's been rotisseried at least once in her life you're guaranteed to run into it. It's the datsun way
ah. thanks for the info.
You get a ticket and three points on your licence if you're less than 1 second behind.
I really doubt that, a lot of spotless licenses get revoked for breaking the distance rule, mainly because a lot of people aren't able/focused to react within those three seconds in the first place.
So I've been learning to drive stick and getting better and better I guess but jesus christ my nerves while I was taking off from a stop sign uphill with a truck behind me
I remember that... like 10 years ago when I learned (yeah I'm old) and I was driving with my friend in highschool. He was moving to Washington and wanted his truck up there and then I was going to fly home. So he drove about 400 miles then it was late and he wanted to nap, so then I learned to drive stick... on a oldschool 4 speed/ where 4 was O/D and getting on the freeway was no problem, then I'd slow down to make a turn from a stoplight, and stall, and start, then stall, and the whole time I'm like "OH MY GOD everyone is so mad at me" and I got to the point where I was too freaked, and we had to run around the truck to switch sides to go, and the light already turned red by then... That truck probably only had 70hp...

When I was learning, I'd drive my dogs to the dog park which is at the top of a steep hill with a 4 way stop at the peak. The first time I chickened out and traded seats with my mom a few blocks before reaching it. :v:

I still have dreams about that car today.
I bought a manual as my first car, never really chirped the tires or even stalled it for a week or so until I had to try to get in and out of the clutch rolling down a driveway into a turning lane when the light went green. Hell, that still sometimes gets me where you think you can just pop the clutch out and go. I was just extremely nervous going out on the highway the first time and really nervous about where my shifter was and what not which was really more just 100% first handful of times driving. I drove an automatic on my test and I had like a couple hours driving a automatic :v: I like to say "I can't drive automatic", for some reason on most shitty automatics other than ones on nicer cars and Hondas I cause the transmission to shift up and down almost endlessly whenever driving around or force it to kick down too many gears when I just want to speed up a little. I don't have any issues at all driving a 5 speed auto on my mom's Civic but put me in something like an SUV or a GM product like a Chevy Malibu and everything goes to absolute hell.
Reminds me of a time where someone was selling an FB RX7 with less than 50k mileage with an untouched leather interior for $5k. I haven't been learning for long but when I drive my Automatic Galant, my left foot is already trying to assert its dominance. So far, I have been *sort* of enjoying it maybe just not as much as I should because i'm learning. As I get better I think I'll definitely have much much more fun, I can already see why people like it so much more. [t]http://i.imgur.com/PND8cGu.jpg[/t] A good picture from tonight before I set off on my deadly journey
I like manuals too, but I don't have a problem with Autos. I've never noticed them hunting for gears, they hold the gear till a reasonable rpm, shift, repeat. Once I'm at a steady speed they stop doing anything.
