so one of the founders at my job, "creature" lee, is selling his mid 60s nova 4 door. Its pretty damn clean, needs an oil pump, and rumor has it hes asking 4k. Maybe I can ask for 3k? or maybe he wants a miata, hmm? He did pose with it for a picture once... also i just bought a 2-stroke motor kit for one of my bikes. Crossing my fingers that its here in 3 days.
Yes VVL is kind of an answer to the dilemma I posted about the intake valve side of things at least, but I was wondering about how the timings work on dual VVT engines that don't have any form of VVL (as many manufacturers do, so it obviously must work). Obviously a CVVL system like Toyota's valvematic is ideal for tuning the engine across different loads and speeds but very few cars have CVVL valvetrains and afaik none have them on the exhaust cam(s). I'm guessing that manufacturers choose to disregard the suction effect on the intake charge when the charge hits the piston (creating a low pressure area behind the charge drawing more in from the manifold) even when it (piston) starts travelling upwards in the compression stroke, in favour of higher overlap at high RPM to draw in extra charge that way. It would have to make sense as the exhaust valves would need to open (and thus) close earlier to bleed off pressure from combustion before the exhaust stroke begins. So at high RPM, I guess the exhaust valves are advanced slightly and the intake valves are advanced much more (to create overlap).
Not that anyone cared, but if anyone was curious the effects I'm referring to are the ram effect (suction effect on the intake charge) and blow down effect (bleed off pressure from combustion) explained at http://www.auto-ware.com/combust_bytes/valvetiming.html
Thanks to Bad rocker arms on my 72 Impala, I've learned alot bout old school car shit. I've fallen in love with 60s/70s Engines now.
Why did the intake manifold have to come off to do the rocker arms? Also, replace that manifold and that 2bbl carter/holley whatever it is. You need a 4bbl, at least a Holley 390. That motor is strangled. [editline]2nd June 2015[/editline]
so one of the founders at my job, "creature" lee, is selling his mid 60s nova 4 door. I'd be on the hunt for a 67 impala if you want a 4 door chevy. i love those 67 Impalas, especially no posts, like Hunter. the impala the closest they had to a home
the impala the closest they had to a home
Also, somehow I never noticed but in the very first episode, it was green.
You know how people like to put Subaru engines in beetles? I've always wondered how one would sound with the typical twin bazooka exhausts.
Also, somehow I never noticed but in the very first episode, it was green.
wait...what?!?!?
You know how people like to put Subaru engines in beetles? I've always wondered how one would sound with the typical twin bazooka exhausts.
I'd personally like to have a porch engine. dat euro sound.
*car painting pics* For a first attempt at painting a car... and spraying paint for that matter I think I did pretty good. It isn't perfect but it satisfies me. Clutch2 got me started, a friend showed me his bog skills and my grandma helped set up that spray... 'tent'. It was fully safe I swear! Other than that I did all the work myself between a fulltime job and some commitments.
That looks flipping amazing!!!! The clear coat looks pretty damn good in those pictures, and since that's your first time spraying I'd be really proud. Black is hard to work with, and I've screwed up black a couple times when it wasn't even my first try. Big props to you for taking the plunge and spending the time and effort to make your car look great again. A fresh paint job is almost like buying a new car, almost. Good work :)

A clean nova has a 10k asking price in the Bay Area.
You know how people like to put Subaru engines in beetles? I've always wondered how one would sound with the typical twin bazooka exhausts.
Like the world if Germany and Japan won WW2.

If you buy it, leave the Creature sticker in the rear window right where it is.
YOUR WARNINGS HAS BEEN TOO LATE [t]https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/32814946/_MG_1046.jpg[/t]
is there a filter at all?
There's a filter in the airbox, :v: and a flyscreen in the pipe because insects. Should I consider getting a spongy dust filter or something? I've also finally replaced my air filter to a K&N one, the one they sent earlier was the wrong size. Apparently Australian D16Y4 has a different airbox to the USDM D16Y7 or something. The difference is huge lol (filter appearance wise), the old paper was about 2 inches thick and the K&N isn't even an inch thick. Don't know anything performance wise though, I doubt there would be much improvement.
Did he tell you it was an E34? Because that would just be the top of the kransecake. I do regret not buying a real E34 though, it had been sitting for several years, but whatevs, I could've gotten it for the scrap price had I just been persistent enough.
He told me it was an E34 and that it was totally different after I told him it shouldn't be anything special with changing the wheel bearings on an E30 or E36 as I asked the bmw guys (see:everyone with a car) in my class. I even asked if they tried heating it up or using a press or extractor to remove it, he just said heating it was a stupid idea and didn't comment on the extractor.

Lol wait 525, today I wa s the idiot.

Good work :)
Thanks man, that means heaps to me. right now it isn't perfect in a few places (bit orange peely in places), but still heaps better than what it was before. I've already learnt heaps on what do do better next time, mainly the priming and sanding stages lol, it was hard to tell if what I was doing was wrong until the paint went on. Like in a few primed places, the paint would lift/craze on the edges not long after application, I managed to make it disappear by lightly sanding it and then putting on the second coat and clear... somehow :v: TBH I really surprised myself, seeing the glossy metallic black a few days after I'd painted just melted my heart

Don't know anything performance wise though, I doubt there would be much improvement.
Most of the resonation dampening left on your intake is all of those empty tubes/boxes on your intake arm and probably any ribbing in your intake boxes such as the resonator box on top of your throttle body that connects to your intake arm. If you smooth out the insides of those you should be able to increase the good noise of the car. I would have really left the intake behind the bumper. It's been proven that unless you have a turbo car which benefits greatly from as cold as possible fresh air that the only thing that helps a N/A Honda motor is a very smooth widely bent intake which is larger than your throttle body by a bit and has a velocity stack on the end of it. Behind the bumper grill or just hanging out behind the fender liner would have been fine. I think its actually prefered due to being less turbulant. You'd probably see more gains from smoothing out your airboxes with a dremel. Lower IATs will also reduce fuel mileage. K&Ns and aftermarket filters just don't filter like stock, that's why they are thinner and less restrictive. [editline]2nd June 2015[/editline] Y7 intake manifold is considered trash anyways though, if you can change things like that in your area with inspections that along with a nicer header would be the most worthwhile things to do to a non-vtec stock tune d16y motor. The cat is in the exhaust Mani on your motor though so I'm unsure again on what you can do with it legally unfortunately.
Anybody know where I could find a decent cheap stop sign or speed limit sign? Thinking about making a skidplate for my WRX.

I always seem to find them on street corners, just sitting for anyone to take. Dunno why you're having trouble.
I need some advice. In my dart I really want to go 6 speed (T56 magnum) but the whole set up done and in my car is $5000-6000 and it holds 700-900hp (dont plan on higher) My dad has to change his trans to a more-built one in his cuda, it is a Th400 capable of holding 3000+hp, trans brake, full reverse manual valve body, billet internals, $3000 and i'll need a converter for $1000. I plan on turboing the dart so I guess it'll be better for that but i've always loved sticks. I think its pretty obvious to go with the th400 tho
