Automotive Addicts Lounge V2- Why we are all broke:

I have to run D4 everywhere I go unless the speed limit is 20 or I'm at around 2.5k in the revs or more, D3 is almost entirely for passing or really low speed limits.
Anywhere above 26 or so it shifts to 4th and if you listen hard enough you can hear the TCC lock in. I wish I could turn the TCC on and off, it sometimes causes the trans to gear hunt, but if it doesn't lock in it'll go between gears fine.
I'd really like to find a way to reprogram the trans computer so I can adjust how long a gear holds and when it should up or down shift from throttle position, speed and if the car isn't getting the speed it expects from where the throttle is.
/pipe dream: no love for my car edition.
Too bad they got rid of the sport mode button because that's almost exactly what you're asking for. :v:

Can anyone explain why Mazda RX8 seem to go so cheap? Granted they are about 10 years old and rotaries generally cost more to maintain but I have seen them go for as low as £1.5k
Is there anything dodgy about these cars?
For example:

If you treat them poorly you have to rebuild them or replace the rotor even, most people treat them incredibly poorly and it's not uncommon to see an RX-8 that is in worse shape after 80k miles than a 200k average car. You can also expect to get mid teens for gas milage, maybe high teens on a very conservative highway drive. It's pretty common or even expected to see them need a rebuild at 80-100k miles.
They're really great cars if you can find a good quality one, however expect V8 milage with very average V8 power without the V8 reliability. Rotaries are a way of life really, you commit to having the rotary and you learn all you can about it because if you don't pull your own wrenches most of the time you're going to be in for a miserable time whenever you're not behind the wheel.
rx7s and rx8s make great candidates for engine swaps
Or you can just shove an LS7 like a smart person in it and have the best of both worlds, since really, rotaries aren't advantageous, no matter what Car Throttle claims.

They purposely burn oil, which I guess a lot of owners don't know, the apex seals on the rotors eventually wear out (prematurely if you have a shitty owner), if you don't let it warm up, it'll flood, they need to be taken to high RPMs once in a while, etc. And then there's the reputation formed by shitty owners that they're just ridiculously difficult and unreliable. A rotary is a little finicky compared to a regular piston engine, but they're not as bad as people say they are.
its finally here at my house!!!!
my very own car (because none of my other family members have low enough standards)!!!

1993 honda accord LX coupe automatic
109,500 miles
A/C blows warm, and the left window will start to go down when I press the button, and then stop about halfway and then if I press the button another 20-30 times it goes down completely. Rust spots around rear wheels. Other than that, pretty average. I used a rag and a hose to wash the dirt off and in the process removed whatever was left of the top layer of paint. It still looks the same (minus the grey dirt shit that you can see on the hood and bumper), but judging by the way the water got all milky grey-ish when I washed off the rag id say I took something off that I wasn't supposed to.
Was it free?
Also not bad you wont have to care about it too much if you kill it.
So, my month old alternator went bad. My dad got a replacement of the same with the warranty on it and it lasted 10 minutes.
Is there anything in my Nissan Sentra 2000 that would ruin an alternator other than it just being a shitty alternator on its own? I have little experience with this.
Anyone else remember the guy who got his lug nut stuck on and he posted the whole saga in this thread?

did he weld something

My Auto-Electricity-I teacher taught us how to diagnose this, but I've already forgotten.
Something is shorting it or it's getting more load than it should.

Ye. It was fucking hilarious. When I saw the welds I died.
No one's allowed to bitch about the gearing in their transmissions. Mine has 3.
The transmission starts from a stop in 2nd, then goes to 3rd at about 25mph, then you have 3rd all the way till you run out of revs.
You have to manually select 1, the transmission doesn't use it in drive.
I'm putting in a more robust transmission when I swap the motor, but I'm not sure which one yet, and likely getting an 8 1/4 for the rear with 3.23s
You have to change the rear end to make it do anything different.
A ridiculous power draw, like a dead battery or a bad ground.
You're swapping the slant 6 out? For another slant 6 at that?
thats one complicated rats nest
Yeah, it has the lean burn chrysler garbage on it since it's an 80s slant, so there's wires, hoses, smog pump, etc... it also has A/C and power steering. Those are both coming off and getting sold. The whole motor is being rebuilt into a longrod stroker slant. ARP everything, machined bores out .060 over, a nice turbo cam, double roller timing chain, etc... it'll look at lot simpler when I'm done.
You're swapping the slant 6 out? For another slant 6 at that?
Yes. That's basically it. Except this one is getting built into a hardcore turbo slant six, instead of just a turbo slant six. You must understand the motor I have now is just a slant six, that made 85rwhp stock, with a turbo strapped to it, and a nicely remachined head, tougher valve springs, etc... now pushing 200rwhp. So I am upping the displacement of this new motor about 8ci, and increasing the stroke at the same time, and it will be o-ringed and more turbo friendly. Then when the old motor comes out, I will be building that into a offset crank, 225 longrod stroker... But one thing at a time.
Also slant six to slant six swap is one of the easiest engine swaps to do. Parts Required: Slant six.
What kind of power are you expecting out of the new motor? I'd like to see the looks on pro-street guys' faces when they clock slower than a 4 door slant 6 dart.

I am not sure how much power I'll be making. I am hoping for at the minimum 280at the crank @8psi, and I will be running 14 on a track, so I'm kind of hoping i get over 280 before 5k rpm hits and close to 350ft/lbs of torque. If I use a 4bbl carb I may get more, but being rational, the one turbo slant I saw that ran 350hp was pushing 15psi of boost, AND had a very sophisticated megasquirt fuel injection system. But turbo slants are fast in general.
Here's one.

And here's a naturally aspirated slant racing a hellcat. Besides having no forced induction, and running alcohol, I do not know what else has been done to this car.

Slants can go quick, but it costs more money for the same result you'd get out of a V8 with some mild improvements. But it sure as hell is more interesting.
The second Valiant sounds like a really pissed off lawnmower at high rpms but god damn it's fast.
I want to take my New Yorker down the 1/4 mile just to see whattl do.

God the second video its suggestions are full of cellphone streetracing footage.Thats one thing that pisses me right off.

Those welds,I weld for a living ive seen some terible ones but that, that takes the cake.

What motor?
I imagine it'd be pretty hard to weld on something that small and inside a rim though. But, why the fuck did he think welding a rod onto the nut would help at all?
What motor?
440
440
Yours is the '68, right? Not usually considered a muscle car that I've seen but I bet with the 440 it could put some dents in a few egos. If you take it to the track make sure to get some footage.

Honestly with remans unless TWO do it in a row, I call the first one a junk part. I replace so many remans a 2nd time it's ridiculous. A friend's Civic is on #3 in like 3 years. The most recent one over charged at 18v sometimes, and when you spun it you could physically feel it clunk and do all sorts of dumb crap.
