Honestly with remans unless TWO do it in a row, I call the first one a junk part. I replace so many remans a 2nd time it's ridiculous. A friend's Civic is on #3 in like 3 years. The most recent one over charged at 18v sometimes, and when you spun it you could physically feel it clunk and do all sorts of dumb crap.
That's what you get for overpaying for a parts store piece of shit alternator and not a proper reman Denso/Mitsuba. OEM alternators last like a absolute minimum of 150k miles unless you wreck them with faulty batteries, bad belts and the like.
A ridiculous power draw, like a dead battery or a bad ground.
Oh dang, the dead battery tip may be exactly what our problem is. I don't think we charged it from near dead before we tried a new alternator.

Eh, it's a horse apiece these days practically it seems like. $100 for an A-zone, Napa, Advance etc alt and you gotta do it 3 times vs $300 for an overpriced dealership part that you gotta deal with pompous asshole dealership parts store guys to get in the first place. I just shrug. If it's a quick swap, it gets a reman. If I need to remove half the car to get the fucker out it gets an OEM.
Here's other stuffs.

Oh my god, is that a Chianti Red Metallic Civic? The engine bay isn't Rio Red by chance, that shock tower looks more Rio Red than the paint. If it is that's the same color as my car which I've only seen a few photos online.
http://www.amazon.com/Denso-2100227-210-0227-Remanufactured-Alternator/dp/B000C5RW4U
Honda will sell you the same exact(usually) reman piece done by Denso, made by Denso. Parts stores are absolute garbage, the reman units they sell are literally trash. Those are also $72 with a $35 core($106) on Rockauto. It could be a bad ELD though.
That one had a Mitsubishi alt in it, not the Denso one. No clue how much the A-zone alternator was originally, but they just keep getting warrantied, so no big deal.
And the color is candy apple red on it, sprayed over gold. Rio red looks like the original color. This one has 223k miles on the clock! It was my friend's mom's car, but now she doesn't drive anymore, and he's the kind to get into trouble with fast cars, so he's loving this car. About 2 years ago he had a local body shop fix all the rust on it, straighten it, then paint it this sexy color. But they took a whole year to do it cut a few corners and he went ballistic and was ready to abandon the car. I put a full stereo in it for him and now it's a pleasure to drive, lol. It's got full coverage and has been collecting mishaps for about a year now, and once the body collects enough dings to warrant it, the car's going to a different shop to get a full repaint to make it *perfect*.
Fun car to drive.. to the boards with that little SOHC is like 1/2 throttle on my Corolla :v: But the view out of the dash is honestly kind of reminiscient of my NSX. Love the wheel in it, too. Very thin and feels good in your hand. PLUS with the windows open on the freeway the wind isn't overbearing in the cabin. Great design there.

.... Why
I like to think that's how it looks in the vehicles of students that blast their bass way too loud next to my dorm.
I'm almost positive both are the same functionally and Honda just put in whichever starters or alternators in the car that they had on hand. Well as long as they have a warranty it's no biggie, I just usually end up getting screwed with any warranty.
That's awesome, the Rio Red was the single stage crap paint or whatever that really oxidized. We have tons over here on the west coast with around 280-320k miles, most usually have around 220ish now. Make sure he gets the front grill painted trim colored lol. That always bothers me when body shops don't bother to take the time to mask off the bumper grill even. Probably not that bad on red but on white it looks so terrible lol.
Does it have the rear speaker pods? These cars are pre-wired for rear speakers and what not, there's little mounts that go over the cargo cover holder trays. I wired mine up to some crappy bookshelf speakers I was gonna throw out instead. I'd like some stock speaker pods but everyone wants $60+ for them.
The EF was an amazing platform, Honda really nailed it with these cars and if you get the suspension setup right they're crazy good for what they are. I've also noticed that I've never been in a Honda with the windows down that bothers your ears. I drove a 2013 Malibu once that if you rolled down one rear window it would hurt your ears so bad that you could probably torture people with it on the highway at 80mph.
It's a total shame that cars like these don't exist in places because they rust.
I dunno I've been in the back seat of a da integra with the sunroof open and windows down and I couldn't breathe.
Some days I really really want a Miata. I saw a gorgeous mint condition NA today. Metallic blue and appeared to be stock. Just a lovely looking little car.
Does anyone know of any decent android apps for car diy maintenance, kind of like a "diy mechanics guide" in an app?
With like photos and guides to doing stuff like changing filters, oils, belts... Fixing stuff...
Maybe for a general "this is how you do it on all cars" and then a filter for the exact car as well?
I trusted hischoolers to was my car yesterday, some band fundraiser. I dont know what I expected, but despite having power washers, scrubbers on sticks, ect, it was fucking awful. They missed more spots than they got.
Sounds a lot like my auto 4 speed. It's usually a 2 speed if I don't have Torque running and connected.
Why Hyundai why
The first thing I want when I have a stable income is everything I need to do a M5AF3 5-speed swap.
Wait, why would torque change how your car shifts?

Car Mechanic Simulator 2014 and 2015 do a decent job illustrating stuff that can go wrong in a car and how it's mended, though they are PC only AFAIK.

There is a mobile version of 2014 but still, these are more like games. I'm looking more for a Haynes Car maintenance app

Isn't that shitty Japanese econo-trash?
If I'm getting a miata it better be an NA with 1.8l and LSD.
No less no more.
Aiming high

I get P0732 and P0734 codes for Gear 2 and 4 "incorrect ratio", which locks my transmission in 2.5 and third gear. If Torque wasnt there to clear ir, I'd be stuck like that until I reset the ignition a few times. Sometime I have to glide in neutral just so I can turn the ignition on and off to fix it.
I'm trying to choose between a 2010+ Mazda 3 hatch, 3.6L Charger, and GTI because I might be needing a new car soon. $18k is probably the realistic limit (yay I get to make car payments now)
GTI probably has the best all-around performance but are the priciest of the three and will probably need the most maintenance as well
3.6 Chargers make 292hp apparently, police live in them so the maintenance cant be too bad and the price is right, dunno how practical they'd be compared to the 2 hatches
Mazda 3 is the cheapest option from that year onward that I can see being fun to drive
I used to get a similar issue out of my car after getting the headwork done a while ago before the winter, but without the error codes. For my car, I found I just drive with the auto stick 95% of the time now and it's never done it again as well as it was due for transmission fluid change, so I did that. When in doubt, as you're driving, give it a little extra gas when it's about to shift up from 2 to 3 to give the tranny a bit more torque like you're trying to rev match.

2 out of three ain't bad...
Also, believe me, the full-size sedan is just as practical as a hatch. You won't go wrong with the Charger if you're concerned with carrying things. The trunk space is absolutely huge. Just don't expect the same gas mileage out of it if you're pushing it for 300hp, but they do have plenty of power and pretty good torque, especially compared to the smaller engines in the hatches.
2 out of three ain't bad...
I'd drive just about any miata as long as it isn't yellow or an auto :v:

I'm actually doing the first half of a transmission swap today on a friends 99 Hyundai Eleantra because his trans wont shift to reverse and is throwing the code for "4th gear incorrect ratio".
His girlfriend drives it all the time and she said as soon as it threw the gear code it lost reverse and shuttered really bad. 4th in that car is overdrive, and being the car has over 250k miles on it and narry a trans service I'm not surprised it finally ate shit.
But having that many miles on it with minimal service? That's a pretty good fucking transmission if you ask me.
And when you say Torque, do mean an app or engine torque?

Unless I can throw entire desks, 50" TV's, catback exhausts and bookshelfs through the back of a truck it's really not practical. Trunks suck ass in comparison.

Should fit your criteria

I have a slightly older Mazda 3 and it's been great. Only complaint is that it feels a bit underpowered, but that's my fault for getting the 2 liter.

Both rear seats fold down directly into the main cabin with no small little hole, but the entire backside of the trunk. I've fit full 10' long sections of Sch 40 PVC and Sch 40 CPVC in my car alongside massive IKEA desks and chairs in it. Plus, in addition to fitting three dead hookers in the back, the car actually looks good, unlike just about all hatches ever, IMO.

In the rear he uses a pair of oldschool Blaupunkts in 6x9 boxes on long tethers, plus a sub on a long tether, too. That way when he's camping and winding down for the evening you just set yourself up a little surround sound out the back hatch, kick back in the folding chair, and enjoy.
The rust issue is so the truth. I look at Florida craigslist stuff and just drool.. the rust around here is just depressing, because it's a constant battle against cancer for any winter driven car you give a damn about, plus a constant issue when buying used cars. DSMs always are rotten in front of the rear wheels, Civics where the bumper meets the quarter, GMs loose their whole rocker panel eventually, etc.
A friend has a Beretta he's had 10+ years and it's over 300k now, but it's coming to the end of it's life simply because the pinch welds are almost gone and he's considering the fact that it may completely separate one day while driving, just like that, poof. shame.
