Hmm cheap, kinda high miles. But I want a manual legend pretty hard.
Can you really say chrysler and mercedes never made a good car together if you've never driven or owned one serj?
I loved my 300C, chrysler body design, engine, interior, with mercedes chassis, suspension, steering, and transmission. The car handled better than it should have for a big family sedan, while still riding like its on a cloud. It had plenty of power to match the 9L/100km I averaged (25mpg or so) on long trips, 10.5L/100km around town. Mercedes did a wicked job with the 5 speed auto, always had the right gear, responsive, didnt feel slushy, and it shifted hard when you wanted it to. My all time favorite automatic thus far. The brakes were responsive and effective, steering felt natural, and the whole car felt sturdy while also looking "gangster as fuk". I plan on buying an SRT8 in the future, that'll be a whole new animal.
The charger is successful too, the police are fazing it into use and its been commonly praised by them. The challenger is also based on the mercedes LX platform, are you gonna tell me the hellcat and SRT8 challengers arent successful and good vehicles?
Whenever I think of the Chrysler 300 I remember this little sneak at my first apartment complex.

Hellcat's and the 2011 and on Chrysler Group automobiles aren't Mercs. I second the transmission and suspension of the Charger (300C, same everything except exterior body and trim; I just like the Charger over the 300). I just wish the interior wasn't so... mehly built. Every time I open my center console or glove box, it feels like the hinges are about to break because the double-hinges catch on each other. The passenger window switch on the drivers side cluster has been borked since I got it, and the motor is garbage.
Ultimately, I think that's Daimler-Chrysler's biggest issues working together is the build quality of the unimportant things that really are kind of important. The window motors are notoriously weak to the point you physically can't lift two windows at the same time on the same side of the car. They blend soft and hard materials well, but the glove box and the side passenger air vent have zero ductwork and you can easily remove the cover and stick your hand down into the glove box if you open the glove box (see RCR's Cubeman video, the Charger's the same way and I can do that as well).
Also, biggest gripe about the Charger/300 lineup... whoever the fuck fucking idiot that didn't fucking think that fucking customers would fucking buy fucking manual transmissions in their family fucking cars... Fuck you.
I'm not bitter about that last point, or anything.
My mom had the misfortune of owning 99 Chrysler Concorde. Calling it a hunk of shit gives feces a bad name.
That's because it's a '90s Chrysler. Everyone knows '80s and '90s Chryslers are for cheap fools who need a car that goes from A to A; and nowhere else.

Asphalt to Auction?
I totally forgot about the V10 engines chrysler group used to have.i dont know if they were any good

Woah woah woah mustang sally. If you liked it so much whyd you get rid of it? Anyway I forgot those things were on mercedes platforms. I was thinking more along the lines of the crossfire.
I totally forgot about the V10 engines chrysler group used to have.i dont know if they were any good
if they were any good they'd be common swap engines. it's an 8 liter v10 that doesn't even make 400 horsepower. they also tend to break crankshafts
they sort of re-engineered that engine for the viper, and it's a reasonable engine in that application
[editline]9th June 2015[/editline]
if I'm not mistaken the viper came out shortly after chrystler bought out lamborghini so chances are lamborghini helped make the v10 worth a damn for that car, but those changes never made it to the trucks.

The 300 is like a black chick that you can't honestly tell that she's black, and if you put her in a lineup next to a Grand Cherokee you're think she's just pretty tan. The Crossfire is yelling in the movie theater and being really loud on the phone asking for child support.

It wasnt too good in the winter. I ended up hydrolocking the engine during a bad storm and wrote it off. The money from that went to buy my TJ

It's a truck engine for towing so pathetic power per displacement is hardly surprising; they are for torque. The Ford V10 is almost as bad.

they only made 450 ft lbs though. I think the cummins made way more torque, I know the new ones make something like 610 ft lbs
I thought it would be funny to get some maaad Jeeey Dee Emmm stickers so I got some silly stickers for my silly car.

AUTO CLUSTER IN A MANUAL CAR!
Its really no different to an actual manual cluster because the auto lights has a port of its own and that's unconnected, so the indicators just stay there and does not light up. I wish someone has found a way to arduino that shit up and turn that thing into a manual gear indicator.
Anyway I changed my cluster from blue to red effectively changing the engine configuration from running super cool to maxximum horsepowahhh. All I need now is a green cluster so that I can run the engine on eco mode when fuel prices go up.
On a completely more serious note ever since I bore a hole in my bumper, routed a pipe to scoop air straight into the air box and replaced the panel filter the car now makes a surprisingly loud "air intake" sound. The moment the needle gets past 3k rpm you start hearing all the air rushing in even if the car is stationary. Reminds me of the proton I used to drive, proton engines have an air scoop at the slit between the grille and hood so if you rev the engine hard enough it starts making a whistling sound from all the air movements. Also, I'm very sure there's more shit coming out of the exhaust too. Thankfully the only emissions related law in NSW that I'm aware of is that pod filters are illegal without an airbox because lol emmisions and I still have my airbox intact so everything should be a-ok.

CLUTCH!!!
It could probably be quite easily done though, depending on the connector and how the selector communicates with the cluster. Would be easier to figure out with an automatic car and a multimeter or logic analyzer.

Well you could tap the tach and speedo signals and calculate which gear you're in based off of the revs to speed, you could also tap the reverse switch and make it default to neutral if you know how to do stuff like that with an arduino probably wouldn't be that hard really. Hondata and aftermarket ECUs do boost-by-gear similarly.
If the cluster has it's own port, I say bypass it and wire directly to the LED's. get some optical sensors for the shifter, and away you go.

Obviously, gas engine in trucks are big jokes, the only time a gas engine is better than a diesel is when you have a powerjoke.
I'd swap in the hybrid cluster. You have to do some repinning but the colors are decoded online so you can swap your wires to the correct pins and just hook it up. Then you get that sick flat black cluster with nothing on it but rings, then you turn the key and all the leds light up, the digital guages fire up, and then you have a mpg rating at the bottom. Unfortunately, the mpg rating and temp gauge will not work, but everything else does. It will say you are getting 150mpg at all times, but that's not so bad.
I did this conversion in my Cr-v when I had it. I did it because someone else on a Cr-v forum did it, so I went for it. Then said person got incredibly infuriated and said I stole his idea. I'm not sure what was wrong with that guy to this day. I even stated I got the idea from him. Oh well.
It looks cool but you lose those two bits of functionality.
I wish someone had the video online of it turning on. All the digital meters do a sweep back and forth on startup.

I've also seen people use sensors like you've got on your house windows and doors to check if it's in gear. Could probably use it to check which gear you're in too.
Looking for cars really sucks :v:
Looking for cars really sucks :v:
tell me about it, my daily went kaputt this past week
I visited the Volvo factory in Göteborg (or Gothenburg for your weird English translations) today with my class. T'was fun watching XC90s get built from scratch by a million different robots and automatic stations :v:
Switched oil from regular conventional to high miles synthetic. P sure the vehicle has been on conventional for its entire life, but this is more of an experiment than a choice. Going to use the synthetic oil for one year to see how the engine reacts in the blaze of summer and in the freeze of winter.

Try 800 lb ft.
Going to look at some more cars today. It's pretty difficult finding a decent car with my 3,000 budget. At least for me anyway.
Looking at a 2003 Ford Taurus SES with 115,000 miles, a 2002 Ford Focus ZX5 with 145,000 miles, and a 1997 Honda Civic LX with 100,000 miles.
So I finally threw down the cash to make my Mk1 Focus look like not a piece of shit. I didn't think to take before pics so here's some progress pics.
