Blah, stay away from mouse piss cars. I worked on a Jeep today that had been in storage and when I opened the dash that's all it smelled like. I don't know if it was that or the heat but I went home with a headache after work and that blew my whole night since all I did was lay in bed and sleep until midnight. On the new job front, the local shop that wanted me to work there extended a job offer! I'm really hesitant, though, because while it may leave room for upward growth, it's a lateral movement right now. They do more dealer work in the form of leather swaps, heated seats, bed liners, etc.. so that'd be new and fresh, but there's no difference in money, and insurance would be all up to me. Looking online it looks like I'd go from a $500 deductible to a $6000, at first glance on most plans. Now I need to decide; do I leave the comfy life at BestBuy where insurance is cheap and good, and I have a huge network of installers (who are also my friends in many cases) in favor of helping a local independent shop really blossom into a local star while expanding them to a 2nd location? They're also not airconditioned :v:
so i bought an 86 dodge diplomat today
All seasons aren't winter tires
In this case, we really don't have the money to spare for that stuff, not for a while. I will definitely purchase a set as soon as necessary, although I have no idea how difficult it is to change tires on a wheel - get another set of wheels for winter?
Get winter tires, you'll still get stuck in a Volvo sled going up a mountain. Otherwise, Volvos are awesome cars and super fucking easy to work on.
That's exactly what I'm looking for. How would the insurance be for something like a 1998 V70R or an A4 Avant? Thanks, guys!

Tell them you are confliced as the insurance benefit is not the same, and the pay is the same, so you are actually taking a hit, and going backwards. Medical insurance and the like is big deal to have in the US, and bad if they are making you pay more on your end. Tell them it is a lateral transfer and you're not sure about the security the new job will hold. Just because they are opening a new location, doesn't save it from possibly being a bad business move and tanking the whole company. Then again, if they do dealer work, they are probably safe for the most part, till all the local dealers get bigger shops and realize they don't need the shop anymore. It's risky. While you probably don't get the pay or respect you deserve at Best Buy, I feel like it is better job security initially, than a company that is not as well known or as large. BUT they also say you gotta take risks to make money. Maybe Best Buy will fill your position right after you leave, or maybe they'll leave a spot open to you if you are a valuable employee. I'm kinda conflicted on giving you advice because I made this choice before too, and I picked the local business over the large chain and I got screwed.
All seasons aren't winter tires
Though, they usually are rated for winter and decent ones do great in it. I had great luck with Kumho KR21's on my Impreza, they did good in the snow, ice, slush, etc. I have Douglas Xtra Trac 2's on my Impreza at this point, a bit more aggressive and even better in the winter. Starting out, pure snow tires are a great 'crutch' to get you used to driving in the snow, ice, etc. Once you become a good driver, snow tires feel unnecessary.
Police car or no?
sadly no but it runs really well
In my email today.

I'm trying to get as many opinions as I can on the matter! I think out of all the independent shops in town this is the most 'professional'; you need to be dealing with dealers. He didn't promise over-lofty things like another shop tried to lure me with.. simply that one of the stores will ultimately need to be ran, so essentially a store manager / lead installer position (assuming the fit is right between me and the co, etc). I think one of the big things I'm going to do in the next few days is have a chat with my management at BBY.. my yearly review/raise is coming in August and I'm curious what the forecast is for that. If they want to give me another dollar or something based upon huge numbers last winter that may be a big bit for the decision making. There's many, many 'dark bays' in BBY as a whole because it's hard to find good installers, and #1052 would become another one if I were to leave unless they brought in an installer from a neighboring city since there's not a huge amount of talent in my area. I don't want to abandon the folks or company that have been overall very good to work for, especially in the last year or two. Blogpunch, but it's nice to think out loud.
I still don't know if Serj was kidding about buying a new dart
I really want a glasstop CRX now...

Not to like, self advertise, but my thread might interest some people here ^^' I'm looking for photos of cars as references for models http://facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=1470060

Oh god my clutched suddenly slipped when the traffic light turned green and started smoking like crazy. And I've started to notice that metal smell after long drives. I didn't see any clutch replacement in its logbook so I guess its time for a replacement. Hot damn this is going to be expensive as fuck.
Guys I know jack shit about cars and am looking for a car < $3000. I just need an auto that works and doesnt look shit, so I won't get laughed at. Is this alright? http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/gungahlin/cars-vans-utes/2003-ford-falcon-sedan/1080212167 What cars should I be looking for? I'm Australian, in NSW if that helps with anything? Like I said, I know nothing about cars. Edit: What about this? http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/giralang/cars-vans-utes/holden-commodore-2001/1080241300
Both cars are real fucking good to buy but will use quite a bit of fuel, not sure about the falcon but you can get 650km out of a single tank from the commodore (70 litre tank) The falcon will use a bit more fuel too. with the commodore, it says it's had the radiator replaced which is normal at 200k cos the trans cooler inside the stock one always gives out and turns the coolant into oily poo. I'm saying this because this can go undetected for ages and can fuck up the hoses. if the hoses look like they're glistening, look 'ballooned' around the connections and feel really squishy then they'd need replacing (they're not that expensive) If the Falcon is actually at 800k then it's probably and ex-taxi but that doesn't matter too much if it's been maintained, they can last way past 1mil. Falcons usually (more like always) leak power steering fluid so make sure it isn't pissing out, especially on-top of the alternator (stupid ford design). The interior looks clean from that pic but be aware that at this age, the window motors + regulators tend to fuck out along with central locking actuators. they're easy to replace but genuine ford parts are really expensive. They're both good choices but the commodore is nicer. And better looking.
I still don't know if Serj was kidding about buying a new dart
That was a good one I feel. It was just realistic enough to be believable, bit search your feelings - you know the truth.
Question time My girlfriend just got new tires and they're filled with th nitrogen. If they ever go low can she put air in to fill it up, or is it more complicated than that?

by far the THE BEST car you can get for under 5k...this car is worth more that since i use to drive one 3.5 DOHC v6 with a gearing meant for acceleration this is a rally 4x4 with rear diff lock and ignition boost...spacious but not too big and has a huge sunroof...double the size of average sunroof. 1996 mutsibishi montero sr

If you are going on your parents policy, it might be cheaper, as long as their credit isn't shit. If you go on your own, it depends on whether you have credit or not, and how long you have been licensed for. The A4 Avant might be a little more expensive than the V70R to insure since the A4 is more common. Also changing tires on a wheel is easy peasy, but you need a machine to help you. It's best to have a set of summer rims with summer tires and a set of winter rims with winter tires.

Hot damn this is going to be expensive as fuck.
Make sure to replace your clutch master cylinder and slave cylinder at the same time, both of those are probably weak/leaking anyways and a new clutch will finish them off. You can do that job yourself though before or afterwards, it's a good learning experience. Whatever you do, make sure to also buy a Exedy/Dalkin clutch, Honda uses those from factory and other brands usually have really cheap garbage materials and throwout bearings at the same price or higher. If you can find someone who works on Hondas primarily it should be a fairly quick and cheaper job although many "tuner shops" are ran by pretty terrible people.. Also grab two quarts of Honda MTF because the trans will need to be drained. The mechanic I bring my cars to is a tuner who is hands down among the best in Oregon and easily the best in this area. He was able to get my transmission swapped out along with a new clutch in it on my Integra in just over an hour and a half to me driving it away.
