How 'bout we take this outside, just the two of us, eh?
To each their own, I guess.
I finally got my beat-to-shit old car cleaned up proper, hopefully gonna get it painted this summer and fix up the rusty bits in the meantime I got a nice picture of it post-cleaning [t]http://i.imgur.com/IxvdPHl.jpg[/t]
I read this with an English accent in my mind but then I realized no one owns an el camino in England. Also Ohio plates. :v:
Guess what I'm going to go get most likely? I wonder if my mom will let me have 3 Darts? Well, 2 darts and a scamp.
If you get a scamp, can I be your tramp?
VW flat 4s and the corvair flat 6 were air cooled.
If you can even call it that. There's a lot more oil in those systems than a water cooled engine. Usually they blew air over a large oil cooler or some other large portion with oil cooling, and then the cooler oil circulated and turned down the temps.
So how come everything isn't air-cooled with fans strapped to them? if it's so much easier and simpler, why isn't it common?
Doesn't scale up well, requires more open space. The largest air cooled engines are radials, which can get away with it because they're mounted at the very front of an airplane and have a giant propeller blowing over it, along with the inherent design of radials causing them to maximize their surface area and expose all cylinders (in a single-row design) towards the direction of travel, whereas an I or V engine will only expose one or two cylinders directly to airflow when mounted longitudinally.

I tried to ask the guy working on it, but he didn't make any sense.
Is that a v12? He'd have been better off swapping a hot rodded lawn mower engine in, it'd make more power and be more reliable.
So how come everything isn't air-cooled with fans strapped to them? if it's so much easier and simpler, why isn't it common?
have you ever had to live with an air cooled engine other than on a motorcycle?
have you ever had to live with an air cooled engine other than on a motorcycle?
no, i was just curious how my bike could get away with having only a couple dozen cooling fins.

I tried to ask the guy working on it, but he didn't make any sense.
an all original xjs is my dream car because I'm a masochist who doesn't mind terrible fuel economy, no power, no replacement parts, and a high likelyhood of burning to death if I ever even think about dailying it
It's amazing how Jaguar managed to continuously fuck up for a whopping 21 years at making the XJS not a POS.
Going to take in the Terrano to the shop on Tuesday for a million little things. Oil is black as night and the battery is as good as flat. No rust though, just so many small mechanical issues. Looks like I'm gonna have to spend as much as I paid for it again to get it in good order, let alone good enough for a Warrant. Ain't gonna touch that till I'm sure.
A turbo timer just idles the engine after you shut it off to cool down the turbo

I dont have a filter wrench or oil in my car to go get one what do? cant find a set of vice grips either
Stab it with a screwdriver, make sure it goes all the way through. [editline]13th June 2015[/editline] And of course, turn it.
Wont i get oil everywhere
My wipers have slowed right down lately and their resting place is part-way up the windscreen. When they do get there they judder like crazy as if jamming on something but when activated again they drop to the normal place before going up again. Video: Bad motor or linkages?
I had this with my Punto too. Turns out the spring inside the motor had broken and caused a jam. So the motor could never turn fully. I never replaced the spring but after i removed the spring it looked like this You can see when i pull the level the wipers first go back then up :V
Wont i get oil everywhere
do you want the filter off? if you have no tools and can't turn it by hand, you have no other choice but to get dirty. [editline]13th June 2015[/editline] it's nothing a little degreaser wont kill, it's just oil.
Wont i get oil everywhere
You should drain the oil pan before removing the filter, so a maximum of a quart of spillage. Do it over a large pan to catch it all. Cleaning up oil off the garage floor is a pain in the ass.
yeah the oils out. Its just that Subaru in their infinite wisdom put it behind a plastic bashplate that is held on by clips that have melted together or something because they wont come out. [editline]13th June 2015[/editline] If the oil was still in, I'd drive to a tool shop
You could just put oil in it and drive it wherever, your old oil filter will filter as happily as it did before your oil change. Some people change them independently even.

I've put some WD-40 on the linkages and it's a lot better, probably just made it easier for the dying motor to work though. Squeezed a bit more life out of it. Stuff of miracles.

Drove my old audi.... at 150mph..... First time I ever had her that high, and felt like a king. Why why why why am I debating buying her back ;-; He added accu air susspension, way overkill swaybars and a new steering rack + fancy steering thing that makes the car less sensitive at higher speed. aaaaaaaaaaa What have I done, I LET HIM MAKE IT INTO A SPEED MONSTER. [sp]And he got rid of the plastic cooling nipples[/sp]
Wait, wich audi are you talking about ?
the audi
what are the odds that this will still be for sale by the time I scrounge together another 2k
Car show #2 for me for the year coming up tomorrow. It's the Mopar Ralley in Cupertino. So if anyone is going, I'll be there. It's pure mopar from the dawn of mopar to present cars. I'll either be in slant 6 or the 4 door section. Haven't decided yet. I'm pretty much ready...
