The person in control of fining is probably dead by now, you're in the clear OP.
I bought a 1910 atlas for a quid on the Isle of Man. Fun time reading about the Aryans and yellow people. [editline]12:28AM[/editline] The original owner won it at school as a prize for winning a contest or getting perfect attendance or something.
To the people who rated my 1899 book disagree...
The LLBRU (Late Library Book Response Unit) has been notified and will preform a dynamic breach and retrieval shorty. Do not resist.
9,313.5 would roughly be your fee. That's pretty insane.
Dude just keep it, no one has contacted you about it yet so why bother? You can hand it down or something when you're older or maybe even sell it. If you really want to give it back to the library then sell it to them.
I want to see that book.
They won't charge you, because it was borrowed from someone else a century ago. Might as well give to the history museum or something. But keep it.
I somehow built up 230 dollars in fines at a local movie rental place. Thankfully, they are going out of business, so i don't have to worry about that anymore.

a 50ish year old book really isn't a big deal at all no history museum would want it is facepunch really this naive?
I say you just take it back, and say you found it. I don't think they are going to ID you. I'm surprised library's charge. The one in my town sends you one obnoxious e-mail, then they're just like "Fuck it, we're done". I had books for 6 months before i remembered them. I took them back and got 7 more books the same day.
Keep it as an artifact.
Check the library if they have that book. If they don't, return it.
