It's a new hybrid CPU. Only problem is that it's still an experimental unit, it kind of changes around at random.

They're all solid desktop/laptop processors. My desktop currently has an i7-3770K installed and it's a beast.

the i5 in my macbook is powerful, but a tad too slow for video rendering for my tastes

I did have an i5-2500K in this machine, but I wanted to sell it while it was still worth something. I think it returned ~$160 which wasn't bad at all. Cost me roughly $215 when it was brand new.

All this video card chat makes me realize I have a Radeon 4870 HD X2 lying around but I don't know if my PSU can handle it.
The only other card I've had in this clunker was a Geforce 9600GT and that handled everything I threw at it at least enough so it could run it at as good as the consoles.
I have the Humble Origin Bundle and I can run from it atm is Sims 3 because I am using the onboard GPU

They aren't bad processors though, just not what they used to be. For general use it's still worth keeping around. Before I overhauled my machine I hung onto my Q9550 for as long as I could. That was a damn good CPU for the time, but jumping over to LGA 1155 was like night and day.

would you recommend getting a new processor + RAM (and also a new copy of windows? or is that just for motherboards?) or a new video card + RAM?
